  1. Me too. Went out for dinner last night and it cost 1,990 THB for a bottle of Aussie Yara Valley Chardonnay. Prohibition? What prohibition ????
  2. What is the fine (if there is one) for riding without a licence number plate? Could start to see more bikes without plates.
  3. Forget beer, Lao Khao will give you best value.
  4. OneMoreFarang's idea isn't a bad one and it can be done. Retro fitting this to an existing building could be a nightmare. Not easy even in western countries. In my building most of the units are 54-80SQm. One of our co-owners got in early at planning stage and bought 3 units and had the developer combine them into 1 large unit. Pretty impressive job. He's now trying to sell it but the price doesn't match the building or area. Nice living though.
  5. Maybe. Since getting my yellow house book and pink ID card I have not needed to open a bank acount. I did try to buy a prepaid data sim at AIS in a mall a few days ago and they wanted passport and would not accept pink card or Thai driving licence (or even photocopy of PP that I carry). That is despite me still having a Postpaid sim contract with them - for over a year. T.I.T.
  6. Thailand. The land of unneccessary hurdles to live everyday life as an expat. Surprised they didn't ask for a work permit too. Seems they do everything to try to stop foreigners opening new accounts these days. The appointment requirement is now asked but not sure if they only apply it to foreigners or whether Thais need one to. Last time I opened an account was 2016 with KBank, was told at the door needed work permit (never have had), I had an account already so they let me pass. Was out with new account added to my online banking and an ATM card within 30 minutes. Let us know how you get on when you go back with your certificate of residency please.
  7. The Thai Insurance companies got nothing out of me. I used Atlas Worldtrips from USA as it not only gave the required coverage for Covid but also medical to 1 million USD which includes any injury sustained whilst riding a motorcycle. Most other policies exclude medical claims as a result of a motorcycle accident.
  8. My experience. I entered Thailand on Thai Pass on 4th November and will stay to 15th December. My non-o extension of stay based on retirement expires on 4th May 2022. I bought insurance for 3rd November to 15th December. My Thai Pass was issued on this basis. I expected the immigration officer to stamp me only to 15th December BUT I was surprised to see permission to stay for the full duration on my extension of stay (4th May 2022). I was not questioned about my intentions. Was this a one-off or have others had this happen?
  9. All documents (insurance, vaccination, hotel booking) and compared against TP. Want PCR negative test certificate too.
  10. The hotel was OK (nothing more). Good size and clean room. Arrival 08:15am. Immediate PCR test. In room by 08:30am. PCR test results at 3pm. Check-out by 11:00am next morning.
  11. You have to actually stay overnight I beleive (but you would have paid for it anyway). It was Green Park Resort Pattaya. Booked direct with them and their confirmation and email instructions for procedure at airport were very clear. I used Thai Pass which was issued at 5:45pm on Tuesday and my flight was for 11:50am Wednesday. Arrival in Thailand with TP was very easy.
  12. I arrived at the hotel at 08:15am on Thursday and was tested before going to the room. Did some work, took a shower and had some sleep to be woken by phone at 3pm with covid test results as negative. Within 30 minutes I was enjoying the beach. So that was less than 7 hours actual "quarantine". No hardship at all but hotel was poor. Still for less than 5,000 Baht for taxi, covid test, room and 2 meals it was fair.
  13. Boeing 777. Just 100 passengers total. Only 7 in business class. It was a the same flight Richard Barrow took. He did a "tweet" blog here.
  14. 1 night quarantine. Waiting for PCR result to be freed! Not much else to do.
  15. I just arrived from London to Bangkok this morning on Thai airways. It's fair to say that there wasn't a single "tourist" on the plane. About 90% were Thais returning and the few farangs onboard were returning here for long term stays or travelling with their Thai wife.
  16. Or I expected only to be stamped in until the expiry date of the insurance as sooner.
  17. I just arrived in Bangkok this morning on a NON-O extension of stay expiring 4th May 2022. This trip is only until 10th December so I only bought insurance until 10th December. I was curious to see what date the permitted stay would be due to the short term insurance. Surprisingly, the immigration officer stamped me up to 4th May 2022.
  18. £829 full flex economy roundtrip bought in Jan 2020 for Nov/Dec 2020 but extended for 1 year to use now. Used free gold award upgrade but had to pay extra £298 taxes and charges. Would never buy business class with Thai as it's nearly £3,000.
  19. Just 7 passengers in front cabin business class from London today. I would say they've got a very long way to go to profitability. Service was nice though.
  20. Once you get you Thailand Pass don't expect things to be easy. I printed mine off however the check-in staff here at Heathrow airport this morning didn't know what to do with it as it was the first one they had seen. I had to wait 15 minutes while they called Bangkok. This with Thai Airways. Good luck with non-Thai carriers!
  21. I'm flying THAI this morning from London to Bangkok. It will be interesting to see how it is after all this time. When I returned in April this year there was no In-Flight-Entertainment nor Alcohol being served. I used a "free" Gold upgrade to business class for today's trip and they hit me with £298 in extra charges (normally just £90 for the extra UK Gov tax). They said it was for "fuel surcharge" and "award" admin fee so they are definitely going about money grabbing to try and turn a profit. I'll certainly enjoy trying to reduce any profit by consuming as much of their Champagne as possible but knowing them, highly expect to hear "No Have Sir".
  22. AFAIK it must be presented on check-in, arrival in Thailand (health control and immigration) and to the hotel.
