    Do not extrapolate your experience to mean that is the norm. The airline rules state they should check for onward travel of you do not have a visa or extension.

    Couple of things, firstly there is no requirement to carry your passport, the law requires you to provide it within a reasonable time. Secondly, if you apply online how are you without a passport?

    2 months ago mine was 21 days from submission to issuance.

    There is also no reason not to. Let people choose what they want to do, when they want to do it, and how.

    Just a suggestion, but why not say " yes he could wait until nearer the time, but whenever he extends, the days will be added to his current entry". Far less confrontational and also, why and when people choose to extend is their business, no one else's.

    Pretty sure the 60 day extension can be applied for with every valid entry to Thailand, not just once a year. (As you said previously "Your friend could do a border bounce and enter visa exempt and be given a 30 stamp and that can be extended by 60 to visit wife. He could do that twice per calendar year. So 30+60 and repeat= 180days.")

    He has a valid visa, why would the airline ask for onward travel?

    As you are aware, you have a visa, so no problem coming back in. As you are also aware, you would be stamped in for the few days remaining on your visa- that said, you can ask the IO for an exempt entry, all they can say is no and stamp you in on your re-entry.

    Do you think possibly that if the official website does not mention a COR, that it might just be because one is not needed! Or did you think the site should mention everything that is NOT needed?

    Far better to link to the official page 🙂 https://www.rd.go.th/english/21987.html If you use an agent you may well require a CoR , or Proof of Address in Thailand: Present a document verifying your current address, such as a utility bill or rental agreement.
