  1. The leading cause of death here for minors is drowning, followed closely by personal transport. No one is advocating banning water. Better to teach swimming. No one is advocating a return to walking or bicycles. Just education, safety and adherence to basic traffic laws/rules. I get that some people are freaked out by Cannabis normalization, but I'd much rather have my child experimenting with cannabis than methamphetamine, (or nicotine or alcohol) given that simple binary choice. People love to Google for the scariest cannabis article, study they can find and post it here thinking they're performing some civic duty. I'd ask that they also post a companion methamphetamine article or study. Especially the one's which highlight all the benefits of methamphetamine use.
  2. He should trot out the Helsinki Defense. President Donald Trump attempted on Tuesday to clarify his widely criticized comments in Helsinki, saying that he had misspoken when he said a day earlier that he did not see why Russia would have meddled in the election. Trump said Tuesday he meant to say he did not see any reason why it wouldn't have been Russia that interfered. "I thought that I made myself very clear, but having just reviewed the transcript...I realized that there is a need for some clarification," Trump said Tuesday at the White House. "The sentence should have been...'I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be Russia'." At the Monday press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump said about election meddling in 2016: "(Putin) just said it's not Russia. I will say this: I don't see any reason why it would be." https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/24-hours-later-trump-claims-he-misspoke-helsinki-meant-say-n892166
  3. Cannabis might increase the effects of the underlying mental illness(es) like psychosis and paranoia. It certainly doesn't 'cause' them in previously unaffected individuals. But thanks for the link to the drug treatment center. No one is making "fun" of this sad and tragic story. What an odd thing to say? The rest of your insult can be chalked up to incompetence in making a cogent argument.
  4. No, it's not debatable. Cannabis is NOT safe for 14-year-olds, unless it is part of a Doctor-regulated treatment plan. No one is advocating cannabis use for 14-year-olds. I'm sure the massive education campaign for cannabis could be added to the one they (don't) have now, for methamphetamine and other hard rugs? Right?
  5. He attended his daughter's wedding! OK, this is the scandal of the century. https://www.whitehouse.gov/voluntary-disclosure/ The White House will not release access records related to purely personal guests of the First and Second Families (i.e., visits that do not involve any official or political business). https://www.whitehouse.gov/disclosures/visitor-logs/
  6. Operating a vehicle while under the influence is against the law. If you are concerned with their behavior then you should contact the police. And you should implement, and enforce a strict no smoking policy for your property. I suspect you've chosen not to do this for financial reasons.
  7. I think the cabinet includes members not associated with a Ministry. Deputy PMs (for example Prawit and Wissanu) Office of the Prime Minister WiKi says No. of ministers 35 Total no. of members 45 I guess my point is that PTP's ask may not be unreasonable.
  8. This entire manifesto could be written replacing with ASEANNOW alcohol enthusiasts. The age restriction on cannabis sales is appropriate, and needs to be enforced. There are age restrictions on alcohol and tobacco. Retail distribution needs to be more tightly licensed and controlled. The police have the resources to do this. Claiming something can't be enforced is not an acceptable argument. So no we're responsible for Thailand's youth and their education? That's nuts. You need to back that claim up. Another spurious, off the cuff claim which needs to be supported. Prove that it is. Yes, some people start off with one thing, and then try other things. I'd submit that nicotine and alcohol are the number one/two gateway drugs, given their wide availability, low price and societal acceptance. But in Thailand there is only one gateway drug: methamphetamine. You seem to think that Cannabis liberalization one year ago is detrimental to Thai society, based on some illegitimate assumptions and three "Stories" in the press. I question your original point, and most if not all of your supporting arguments. It is interesting that the alcohol liberalization started last year, which has resulted in a far greater explosion of craft beer retail availability hasn't garnered the same outrage. I get that people want easy solutions to complex problems. And if you really think re-listing cannabis as a narcotic, having the police spend time enforcing cannabis narcotics laws, building more prisons will help solve Thailand's societal woes - which apparently didn't exist prior to cannabis liberalization last year - then I say go for it. Let's see what happens, and how much better things will be, again.
  9. For drugs? Very limited. For the most part Prisons are used. 80% of those incarcerated are for drugs. With the majority for methamphetamine. All the cannabis prisoners were freed (~ 4,000). So 210,000 - 230,000 inmates for meth. Holding more than one tablet of meth is now a serious offense. https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/thailand-toughen-rules-methamphetamine-pill-possession-2023-02-03/ Forget about the violent death toll associated with meth, the long-term health consequences and the cost to society not limited to the Bureau of Prisons, is staggering. But this massive problem is difficult to deal (and also tramadol, ketamine, crystal meth, mdma) with, so it is easy to get distracted by cannabis.
  10. My guess is that his grandfather, whom he allegedly cleavered to death, was his primary guardian and that his parents are absent or deceased.
  11. Depends what you mean by "under threat". If cannabis flower is relisted then we'll revert to the previous limited, strictly controlled, CBD (mostly) medical applications, controlled by the DTAM and currently only used for six limited medical treatments. Might the Parliament expand medical usage? Maybe, but doubtful.
  12. Surprised they didn't ask for a pony too. The entire cabinet is thirty-five, of which 19 or 20 are "ministries". Can't see MFP giving up the Speaker position.
  13. It has been reported that the young man hanged himself. who had just attacked his grandfather with a cleaver before hanging himself from a tree. No word that I've seen re: drug testing results. It was also reported that Police later found a marijuana bong discarded on his bed in a hut near the house. https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2023/06/28/two-deaths-linked-with-cannabis-and-violence-krabi-nong-bua-lamphu/
  14. I did post yesterday in the provincial thread about the 14 YO... There has been a lull in the scary anti-cannabis "stories" (fan fiction?) lately. Interesting to see an increase now. They need a really big story to close the deal. There will be even more scarier stories in the coming weeks, all to pressure changes on Cannabis. The 36 YO clearly was on meth, as is much of the country. Waiting on the drug results on the 14 YO. Meth is a much, much larger problem, but the country runs on meth so what can you do? Methamphetamine is cheap now in 2 - 5 baht per tablet range. Reasonably potent cannabis is way outside the purchasing range of these folks. If they're smoking cannabis it's dirt weed, and probably not even psychoactive.
  15. By far, the most shocking bit for me was everyone laughing about the sharing of classified information. What a bunch of idiots. That female staffer is horrible. Staffer: Yeah, {Laughter} Now we have a problem. Yep. 00:45 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inVJF0Dr8mo&t=64s Jack Smith has already deposed everyone, but trump, who was in that meeting. The meeting was ostensibly for the writer working on Mark Meadows bio, but of course trump had to make it about himself, and share classified documents he transported from Mar a Lago to Bedminster. Stupidest person ever.
  16. Wiki, 2017 Constitution, prescient. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_of_Thailand#2017_constitution Some suspect that with the new constitution the military seeks to hobble political parties in order to create disposable coalition governments. The military would then remain the real power, whatever the outcome of the referendum and the election. "Disposable coalition governments". Ouch.
  17. This doesn't seem like a big deal. More of an issue between the Magistrate Judge at arraignment, and Judge Cannon. I think the Magistrate Judge was worried about trump continuing a conspiracy with some of the witnesses, maybe to protect him? The government (Jack Smith et al) didn't ask for this.
  18. I've been in theatres, mostly for packed blockbusters over the past few years, and not a single person stands. I'm surprised this has been allowed to happen.
  19. From the article in this post... Pita noted that there is still a lot of misunderstanding about the party’s policy on the lèse majesté law, adding that a number of senators now understand the party’s position after having talked with them. He should probably start pitching his party's position to the public. I've heard/read some of what they are thinking, and it is not revolutionary, nor would it limit the powers of the Head of State and the Head of the Military. But then I'm not sure what is allowed to be discussed here. It should be noted that until fairly recently it was illegal to even discuss a specific 112 case, and it still may be.
  20. Section 49 No person shall exercise the rights or liberties to overthrow the democratic regime of government with the King as Head of State. Any person who has knowledge of an act under paragraph one shall have the right to petition to the Attorney-General to request the Constitutional Court for ordering the cessation of such act. In the case where the Attorney-General orders a refusal to proceed as petitioned or fails to proceed within fifteen days as from the date of receiving the petition, the person making the petition may submit the petition directly to the Constitutional Court. The action under this section shall not prejudice the criminal prosecution against the person committing an act under paragraph one. The guy's not even PM and he's being accused overthrowing the government. That's got to be Defamation?
  21. Yeah, that brown floater is not "the truth". And if it's floating isn't it already on the surface? So make them public. If not, why not? He's got more excuses than a 10 year old with no homework to turn in.
  22. We're always advised to wait for the results of the investigation before jumping to conclusions. I'd like to see the results of the autopsy, especially cause of death and a drugs panel. Cannabis still isn't as inexpensive as methamphetamine. It is illegal to sell cannabis to someone under 20 YO. Arguments over money are probably 1A or 1B here as excuses for violent behavior, Love being the other. Given what I perceive to be the rural location, I'd submit that cannabis was always available; locally grown, low potency. I doubt this lad was venturing to the nearest dispensary. If forced to jump to a conclusion I would guess methamphetamine (use/abuse/withdrawal) is more likely as the drug causing this sort of violent behavior. from the linked article... The police searched the boy’s room and found equipment used to smoke cannabis. So he had what, a lighter, rolling papers, a bamboo bong (which can be used to smoke other things). Note that there is no mention of actual cannabis, which I guess makes sense if he didn't have any money to buy some. I'm certain the authorities will track down the source of the cannabis and prosecute the seller for illegally selling to someone under 20 YO. There has been a lull in the scary anti-cannabis "stories" (fan fiction?) lately. Interesting to see an increase now. They need a really big story to close the deal.
  23. Ruangkrai Leekitwattana, as previously reported, is pressing the EC to investigate some discrepancies in Pita's various filings re: some land sale(s). https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/politics/40028623 I'm sure Ruangkrai will be along shortly demanding a Proctologist's examination and report. I hate to stoop so low but wouldn't mind someone closely examining Ruangkrai's personal filings over the past 20 years. I find this ability for anyone to file a grievance directly with (one of) the enforcing authorities vexing. There is no filter. But I get that it is a remnant of the Thai "legal" system ca. 1805 (Law of the Three Seals), although the provisions to make a charge based on status dates from much earlier times.
  24. Fine. What constitutes "half of an allegation"? So what does Turley propose? A Special Counsel to investigate? What? Just the IRS case? Or Hunter Biden's entire life? To what end? Hunter Biden should pay more in taxes and penalties? Less? No one goes to prison to misdemeanor tax offenses.
