  1. As far as I can tell, the Senate "selection" process functioned as designed. Opaque, easily manipulated with the public not allowed any voice in candidate selection. Just another demonstration that the powers that be do not want the public involved in Thai-style democracy. BJT was much more "adept" than PTP. I'm sure we'll be hearing about the money that changed hands in return for a Senate seat, and the disputes over returning the cash.
  2. Is this proposed repeal meant to apply to King Power Duty-Free? Or just the 7/11 (and restaurants/airline lounges) at airports? For Duty-Free, that's only available to departing international passengers, so they won't be consuming alcohol in Thailand on a holy day. Now do "election-days".
  3. I'll save everyone the time, this will be reversed by SCOTUS 6:3.
  4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_YcHhG1OR4 10,000 jobs expected to be created. WIll also make batteries and transmissions. https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/news/20240704_27/
  5. Looks like some sort of cheap Gumby knock-off.
  6. What did you have to do to get back in the saddle? Did anyone explain the reason for the text?
  7. You are correct. I missed that in the OP even after several readings. Thanks, I honestly didn't know there was such a thing anymore, other than from Apple. Every major supplier seems to have quite a large selection of these things. https://www.advice.co.th/product/all-in-one-pc https://www.jib.co.th/web/product/product_list/2/28 The OP can order direct, and most of these suppliers have same day delivery in as little as two hours.
  8. This is for a Thai TIN? (And not a U.S. TIN.) What was this paperwork? Does Bangkok Bank obtain a TIN for customers with the Thai Revenue Department? You mean an SSN? If so, why haven't they asked for it for existing accounts? I infer from the OP that this was a requirement to open a second/new account. I have no issue providing my SSN, but I do not have a Thai TIN so I'd have to get one of those.
  9. I must have missed that in the original post... I'm a complete Luddite when it comes to computers, I bought my present Lenovo All-in-one about 6 or 7 years ago and it's starting to give problems. It's started to get slow, also problems with the on-off switch, so time to upgrade. I mostly use it for downloading movies, Google searches and emails, no gaming, so doesn't have to be top of the line. It's more convenient for me to order direct from Lazada than trawling around computer shops, so any recommendation appreciated. Happy to spend a max of 25,000 baht. The options I suggested are "all in one"; no clue what a 24" PC is though.
  10. Most of the retail brands offer pre-built kits which save the hassle of availability/compatibility. JIB https://www.jib.co.th/web/product/product_list/1/1400 Advice https://www.advice.co.th/product/comset IHAVECPU https://ihavecpu.com/promotion I didn't read the OP's additional posts so unsure about the application requirements (gaming for example), but there are integrated graphics options from both Intel and AMD, which help keep costs down, if not needed. https://ihavecpu.com/product/19387/jund5-03-amd-ryzen-7-8700g-4.2ghz-8c-16t-b650m-onboard-16gb-ddr5-5200mhz-m.2-500gb-650w-(80bronze)-hs https://www.advice.co.th/product/computer-set-intel/set-intel/คอมประกอบ-advice-computer-set-intel-i295-i5-14500-no-vga https://www.advice.co.th/product/computer-set-intel/set-intel/คอมประกอบ-advice-computer-set-intel-i285-i5-13500-no-vga Some of these sell out quickly (7 - 14 days) - I've been shopping for one for a friend - and have missed out on a few.
  11. Nixon was right... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMt8qCl5fPk And Mitch McConnell was wrong... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5-lOAvnxfs
  12. Currently legal medical use is very, very limited. Just a few conditions qualify: 1. Nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy (chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting)(5, 6) 2. Epilepsy that is difficult to treat and intractable epilepsy(10,11). 3. Spasticity in patients with multiple sclerosis(12). 4. Neuropathic pain(8, 13) 5. Anorexia in underweight patients with AIDS(14,15) 6. Improving quality of life in patients receiving palliative care or end-of-life patients I think there is some interest in expanding legal medical use (high THC), but the extent of that expansion is open for debate, which further complicates the current situation. Could anyone get a medical card? Then buy flower? Then use it even in public? After all I can take medicine in public. Who produces medical flower? How is it tested? Dispensed? Controlled? Taxed? Who produces medical extracts (with greater than 0.2 % THC)? How are those tested, dispensed, controlled and taxed?
  13. Like everything here, "yes, but"... I think four members of Hapkarn's gambling cohorts, in this latest "Minnie" case, were heads of provincial immigration offices. And Hapkarn was sacked a few years ago for the Tuhao mess, which involved over one hundred immigration officers selling visas to Chinese ganglsters. If anyone thinks Hapkarn did a bang-up job at immigration it would be wise to remember that most all of the senior management NOW did report to him in the past in that organization. Yes, he did get rid of the tip-jars. Bravo.
  14. In addition to the DCC scheme, which can be avoided by declining that option whereby you will get the daily VISA/MC rate which is excellent, you're getting dinged the local ATM fee of 220 baht, and 3% charge from BofA. Bank of America will assess an international transaction fee of 3% of the U.S. dollar amount for all ATM withdrawals processed in foreign currency. International ATM operators may offer to do your currency conversion for you, but they may charge a higher fee for conversion. Assuming you have a local bank account you would likely be better off making a WISE transfer, or for larger amounts, even paying the $45 SWIFT fee to BofA would be better. The VISA calculator here works fine, you can adjust the fee from 0% upwards. https://usa.visa.com/support/consumer/travel-support/exchange-rate-calculator.html When I use my Fidelity (VISA) ATM card here I get the daily VISA rate, and Fidelity refunds the 220 baht ATM fee.
  15. 12-nil Not a good score for the Hapkarn side. This is his third brush with banishment, and his connection to Thaksin (Hapkarn's father was the family driver for Potjamon's family), and Prawit (his godfather/)sponsor are weaker than Big Tor (whose brother is the King's Personal Private Secretary and head of the Crown Property Bureau (as well as an RTAF ACM). Will Hapkarn rise again? Probably? Maybe? In his last year of eligibility for the top job. He always claims he knows where the bodies are buried but he never delivers on those threats. Which indicates he may not be super-clean himself.
  16. Not sure what "established" has to do with anything. There are F1 races in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Azerbaijan, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi, where "motor racing" was hardly "established". Yawn. How does a long-deceased playboy/prince racing driver enhance Thailand's viability to host an F1 race?
  17. So now we're back to "legislation", and that's unlikely to occur based on past performance. Just a few weeks ago we were told that the final decision rested with the NCB. While everyone has an opinion, they don't have the power, or will, to re-criminalize recreational cannabis.
  18. No clue what you're on about. We're talking about F1. The Bang Sean Grand Prix looks cute. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksIQsvcEIh8
  19. Yeah, someone dropped the ball on the implementation. Makes it challenging for tourists to plan excursions.
  20. I meant there is no "deed" for the single apartment. OK, thanks. I've just never seen the word "Deed" used here, whereas "Chanote" is well understood.
  21. This requirement only concerns a Condominium, as a renter or owner? If you rent an apartment - which is not a Condominium, just one of several units all owned by one Thai person (landlord) then there is no Deed, correct? What is the Thai word for this Deed? Ao. Sor 2? I've never seen this requirement, just the Blue Book, Owners ID card, and rental contract.
  22. The beauty of Nan owes much to it being challenging to get to, so this limits the number of tourists. The urge to whore out the entire country should probably be resisted.
  23. His Land-Bridge will be completed before Thailand hosts an F1 race. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JNun96fEjw
  24. So has he been living in Thailand for ~ 27 years? Legally? Did he renew his U.K. passport several times? Did he interact with children here in Thailand? If I were a DCI and a person of interest had gone missing I'd just assume they were all in Thailand.
  25. Note that he was just charged last week for 112, and is out on bail. Thaksin released on bail in lese majeste case https://www.nationthailand.com/news/politics/40038910
