  1. I had an old account with them which I hadn't used for ages, but it was still on their records so it made things a lot easier.
  2. I have just yesterday split my accounts between Bkk Bank and SCB and feel a lot happier now.........just in case, you understand!
  3. Actually he lies very well, but then it is in the nature of both politicians and many Thais.......a fatal combination.
  4. The answer is honesty and clarity and a plan to get the best vaccines for the people and quickly, and none of these have been a factor in the BS coming from the mouths of the toy soldiers.
  5. "And thanks for all the fish"........(Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy)!!
  6. Having said that, just a few nights ago a friend was told she could open her bar and serve alcohol, provided it was classed as a "restaurant". Luckily she had put in for a restaurant licence some while ago and it came through on that very day, so she was set to open the next night. Imagine her surprise when it all changed overnight and the no alcohol ban came into being, as well as closing 9 PM. Another friend went to a well-known road here which was famous for its bars etc and there was only the bar/resto open, which I mentioned above, and just a handful of people were there drinking beer from plastic cups and although there were a few police around, a blind eye was turned by these very folk, and when one popped into the bar for a quick tequila, I knew that all was well in the Thailand I have come to know!
  7. Sunsweet is the brand to get..........and if I took 2 glasses then I would equal Jeff Bezos time to get into space!!
  8. Thanks, and still experimenting with the right amount of prune juice to take, because if I can get it just right, it should do the trick. I did buy a small container of prunes, and am not overly keen on them, nor the juice for that matter, but at least the juice goes down in one swig, so is over and done with in a matter of seconds. And an interesting fact is that it's not the fibre in prunes which do the trick, it's the sorbitol (sugar alcohol) which draws in water to the digestive system to help things progress! Anyway I'm sure posters here are not really interested in how I endeavor to sort out my lazy bowel problem, but thanks for your help all the same.
  9. I wish!!!!! The problem with a slow digestive system is that the bran or fibre of any description moves through so slowly that it actually bungs the system up! Sounds strange, but it is true and no matter how much water I drink try and "alleviate" the problem it doesn't seem to work. I even got down to making American-style pancakes (with fresh fruit and maple syrup – yum) and adding several large spoonfuls of oat bran or ground flaxseed, but to no avail. Prune juice seems to sort me out, but is inclined to do so with a vengeance, if you see what I mean.
  10. Yes that is what I intend to do now. Keep my 800k in Bangkok Bank and transfer the remaining lump sum to my other almost dormant SCB acct........will get onto that tomorrow!! Anyone see a problem with that?
  11. Wish it did, as it does nothing for anyone with a slow digestive system.
  12. I like the "19 Crimes" range and luckily can buy it here for 499 b a bottle and the "Taras" at 500 b a bottle, and have been disappointed with some Chilean CS wines as they can be a bit "green/herbaceous", esp the cheaper ones. Have been finding some good Primitivo wines at reduced prices, so I snap then up, and searching out the discounted/mispriced wines has become a bit of a hobby of mine!
  13. Good to hear, and I've seen it at many places for 399 baht, but at 400 baht it is still a good buy IMO.
  14. You'll be waiting a long time for Thailand to get its act together, not only because of the damage that has been wreaked by the Covid virus, but the damage that has been done to the small to medium-size businesses here, many of which will probably never recover. And that of course flows down to the poor, who have become poorer, so I believe it will be some time before Thailand ever reclaims any of its former glory.......and the other fly in the ointment is the government who are only interested in themselves and their rich elite friends. Sad days indeed.
  15. Yes, I have found that some Thais I know, my daughter included, like cheese, however others don't, and I do know that most don't like the "smelly" cheese! In fact I can't stop eating the stuff and if I have got a block of Stilton in the fridge it soon goes, so it's lucky I've found two places that stock at the moment. I was pleased you mentioned the port and Stilton because I've just gotten onto my wholesale distributor and the full bottle of port has come down in price so I have ordered six bottles of it and also six bottles of a particularly nice Italian Appassimento red from Veneto which has also been reduced in price. I was in Central Phuket earlier today and I noticed that the Taylors LBV port was just under 1500 baht a bottle, so I'm getting mine at a considerable discount at around 750 baht a bottle, and it is a very nice port indeed. Got to have something to lift the spirits, so to speak, in these trying times!
  16. Now you're talking..............and it reminded me that I have to order another 6 bottles of Port, so will be on to it today!!
  17. I pay $18-$22 for a very drinkable red wine here, mostly from Australia, with the occasional one from Italy and Chile. I have also contacts with a few importers and distributors, whereby I can pick up some really great bargains from time to time, so I stock my wine fridge up when these are available. As I've been drinking wine for almost all of my life, I won't let price put me off, so I pay it and enjoy the wine, however I would not buy any fruit wine, because that is just a waste of my palate, commonsense, time and money, and I noticed someone mentioned that Peter Vella was a good, but it's also a fruit wine from the Siam winery stable. If one is going to drink "real" wine in this country, then do it, and for me it has to be the real thing, or I won't drink it, or if the real thing doesn't become available here, I will move to another country where it is.
  18. Short term rental to exercise the ferret wouldn't break the bank!
  19. The two in the front and one in the middle at the back would certainly tempt me to give up my single life, but the problem being that the funds I have saved, would probably disappear in record time!! As far as the OP's post goes, IMO he would be better off renting a nice little apartment and taking it easy in the bars and on the bar girls!
  20. Forgot to thank you for your kind words, and although I don't want this to develop into a "mutual admiration society", may I say that I appreciate your many good posts!
  21. I'll go along with what you said above, however for me it goes a little deeper, because a lot of what I see is pure stupidity, as in the driving here and nobody taking responsibility for the fact that they should have a driving licence and/or training. The electricity supply and the cabling which supplies it is horrendous, as are many of the houses which have been wired incorrectly, again down to pure stupidity and lack of training. The stupidity, just like corruption here, seems to be endemic, however I manage to live here because I'm able to separate what makes me happy from all of the cr@p which goes on around me, so in fact I'm living in two different spheres, one where I make sure that I am happy in what I'm doing, and in living a stress-free life, along with my lovely Thai daughter, and the other sphere contains all of the stuff I've previously mentioned. So as I said, I separate those two aspects of Thailand and I'm able to live here, even though there are times when I think I would be better off elsewhere.
  22. Whilst we are on the subject of property, and as I mentioned previously, judging by the amount of property spruikers in Dons bar, it would seem as though somebody is hoping for a property revival here in Patong!!! Come to that the bars in Nanai Road are reasonably busy, and it has become the "go to" bar place now that Bangla is shut, and just yesterday when I went past the Offshore Bar, it was humming with farangs and the equivalent amount of girls! Whereas the newly opened bar alongside of Makro (Nang 2) doesn't seem to have had one visitor since it's been open, and it's not surprising given its location and shape. As regards the girls in Patong, well quite a few must have made it back before the domestic travel restrictions, because I have seen some very good looking girls here now, and I have never seen them around the place before, and speaking to one lady friend here, she thought they may have come down from Bangkok just prior to the restrictions coming in. Whatever, there are certainly a few (new) good-looking girls milling around the place now, and one hopes that they have been vaccinated and are Covid free??
  23. I expected nothing different from you either, and whereas I respect the medical profession and the doctors, nurses and frontline staff in what they're trying to do, all you can do is to knock them. In your case, "ignorantia sit beatitudo", so keep on believing that an anti-worm pill will save the world – – yeah right! This is interesting, from the company which makes Ivermectin.................... Interestingly enough even the drugs’ manufacturer doesn’t recommend it be used to treat Covid 19……. The drug’s manufacturer, pharma giant MSD, also warned that its analysis of ivermectin identified “no scientific basis for a potential therapeutic effect against Covid-19 from pre-clinical studies”, “no meaningful evidence for clinical activity or clinical efficacy in patients with Covid-19 disease” and “a concerning lack of safety data” in most studies. https://www.pharmaceutical-technology.com/features/ivermectin-covid-19-antiparasitic-political/
