Trump 2.0 -- Exponentially more damaging than Trump 1.0
xylophone replied to Jingthing's topic in Political Soapbox
How can you be wrong on so many things? Maybe because you are a trumpie? Just to put you straight because you have difficulty comprehending this – – I have never been a Biden supporter per se and have always voted in the two countries in which I am a citizen, on the right of centre and I am definitely not a supporter of "woke" or LBGQT+ or anything else of similar ilk such as gender reassignment. And as for being a loser......not a chance: I don't know of any other 'loser' like me who started an investment fund with $100k seed capital and built it to just under $2 billion before retiring.......I'm afraid it is goobers like you who are the losers! What I don't like is a convicted felon, compulsive liar and a crook who is as dumb as a bag of rocks, in charge of the USA, although his goobers will love that because they have no scruples and are not too well educated (trump's own words). Perhaps I should take a leaf out of trump's playbook and refer to him and his family as the "trump crime family" because certainly his father was a racist and a crook because he funneled hundreds of millions of dollars to his son Donald, through tax evasion and tax fraud, and just like his father, Donald Trump is also racist and a crook. Then of course there is this....A charity operated by one of Donald Trump's sons flouts philanthropic standards by financially benefiting charities connected to the Trump family and members of the charity's board, an Associated Press investigation shows. In June 2018, then-New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood sued the president, his son Eric and daughter, Ivanka, along with the Donald J. Trump Foundation charity. Underwood wrote that: "For more than a decade, the Donald J. Trump Foundation has operated in persistent violation of state and federal law governing New York State charities. This pattern of illegal conduct by the Foundation and its board members includes improper and extensive political activity, repeated and willful self-dealing transactions, and failure to follow basic fiduciary obligations or to implement even elementary corporate formalities required by law. Then there is this against Donald trump Jnr and his younger brother Eric.....Donald Trump Jr and his younger brother Eric Trump have been ordered to pay a total of more than $8m for the fraudulent business dealings of their father’s sprawling real estate empire. Then there is trumps son in law.......In 2005, Kushner's father was convicted of illegal campaign contributions, tax evasion, and witness tampering, and was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. As a convicted felon, Charles Kushner was also disbarred and prohibited from practicing law in New Jersey,[25] New York,[26] and Pennsylvania.[27] Republican Chris Christie, who chaired Trump’s first transition team, said Kushner committed "one of the most loathsome, disgusting crimes" he prosecuted. So the trump crime family now have control and along with the South African Nazi, Musk, will eventually wreak havoc around the world. Som nam na. -

trump is a crook and a grifter from way back but to the MAGA cultists like you he is a saint....a sad cult indeed. Donald J. Trump was forced to pay more than $2 million in court-ordered damages to eight different charities for illegally misusing charitable funds at the Trump Foundation for political purposes: https://ag.ny.gov/press-release/2019/donald-j-trump-pays-court-ordered-2-million-illegally-using-trump-foundation NEW YORK (AP) — A judge Thursday ordered President Donald Trump to pay $2 million to an array of charities as a fine for misusing his own charitable foundation to further his political and business interests. https://apnews.com/general-news-united-states-government-7b8d0f5ce9cb4cadad948c2c414afd57 A New York judge has ruled that President Trump must pay $2 million in damages to settle claims that the Trump Foundation misused funds. The money will go to a group of charities, and the foundation is in the process of dissolving. https://www.npr.org/2019/11/07/777287610/judge-says-trump-must-pay-2-million-over-misuse-of-foundation-funds ALSO Trump committed fraud: ABC reported that New York Attorney General, Eric T. Schneiderman, said of the case, "Judge Curiel's order finalising the $25 million Trump University settlement means victims of Donald Trump's fraudulent university will finally receive the relief they deserve. This settlement marked a stunning reversal by President Trump, who for years refused to compensate the victims of his sham university [...] My office won't hesitate to hold those who commit fraud accountable, no matter how rich or powerful they may be." Fraud can be considered a form of theft. This for the trumpists who ae easily led and who are trumps "favourite people". -

Illegally misusing funds from a charitable trust for his own use/purposes is tantamount to stealing these funds.........and he admitted doing it. You must be so happy that you support a common criminal!!!!! -

Trump 2.0 -- Exponentially more damaging than Trump 1.0

I think he was referring to someone who is inept at running companies and who has had multiple bankruptcies in the process; someone who was convicted of stealing $2.1 million from a charity (and had to pay it back); someone who is a convicted felon; and someone who is dumb and a compulsive liar and wears make up! ........... oh wait a minute, that is trump, so perhaps @spidermike007 got it right! -
All of which you and the MAGA cult followers display in spades.

Very true HP and it reminds me of the words from the song by the Australian group, Australian Crawl, sung by James Reyne and the line goes, "any day above ground is a good day......" And to top the lot I had a lovely lunch with my daughter in Phuket town today and we did a bit of shopping and had a few laughs and she gave me a new angle to living here because I was saying that sometimes I was fed up with Patong and had often thought of going back to New Zealand or even England, to which she said that when she went to France for six months she missed Thailand so much (as she would do because she was born here) and the reason.......everything you want or need is so close at hand and so convenient that why would you live anywhere else? I hadn't thought about it that way and when I did, I realised that she was right, because I can walk to shops and restaurants and have a huge choice, and if I want I can drive out of Patong to other restaurants and sights and everything is close at hand, even though the traffic is horrendous, so it put a new positive aspect on this place for me.

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2025)
xylophone replied to Rimmer's topic in Entertainment
I watched a movie recommended by a couple of Kiwi friends here, called, "Lee" and it's based on the story of ex-model and latterly, war correspondent Lee Miller, starring Kate Winslet in the title role, and she is very, very good. It also stars Alexander Skarsgård, Andy Samberg and a favourite of mine, Marion Cotillard. There are some scenes of the discovery of the Nazi death/concentration camps and they are nothing that I haven't seen previously, but might be a little disconcerting for some viewers? -
And more........ Much mis-informatiom and dis-information being posted by the Maga nuts. And it would seem that the compulsive liar trump has found a kindred spirit in musk!! I am all for cutting out wasteful spending, but trump and musk together are a couple of plonkers playing to MAGA and the poorly educated goobers.....and they are the type of people who are easily led. Fact check: Trump's team targets USAID with false claims As Donald Trump moves forward with plans to overhaul USAID, some of his closest allies, including his son and Elon Musk, are spreading false information about the aid organization that has existed for more than 60 years. Musk – who with Trump has spread blatantly false information about USAid’s finances – reposted photos of the agency’s signage being removed from its Washington headquarters. $50-million worth of condoms for Gaza? Not only has USAID directly been a target of mis- and disinformation. Foreign aid in general is being used to spread false claims, as can be seen in this viral example, in which Trump claimed the US was sending shipments of condoms worth $50 million (€48.3 million) to Gaza. DW fact check: False Trump and his spokesperson appeared to be referring to a $102 million USAID grant to the International Medical Corps (IMC), an NGO providing medical and trauma services in Gaza. Did USAID pay sex offender Jeffrey Epstein? Claim: Posts like this one on X suggest USAID was paying American financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The post shows a screenshot of a document with payments for Epstein under the name Kaiser Foundation health plan. DW Fact check: False The Epstein the document is referring to is not the American financier, but a namesake (Jeff Epstein) who was a high-ranking representative at the health care company mentioned in the document (Kaiser Foundation Hospitals). Hollywood stars paid by USAID? Claim: USAID sponsored celebrity trips to Ukraine, including visits by Hollywood stars Ben Stiller and Angelina Jolie, according to several social media posts, including this video that was reposted by X owner Elon Musk and Donald Trump Jr., the son of the US president. DW fact check: False The video bears the logo of E! News, an entertainment site owned by NBC Universal. In the video, a female voice explains the goal of those USAID-funded trips was to increase the popularity of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, especially in the US. An E! News spokesperson, however, told French news agency AFP that the video is not authentic and did not originate from them. Deutsche Welle (DW) is Germany's international broadcaster. As an independent media outlet, it provides unbiased news and information in 32 languages around the world so that people can form their own opinion. https://www.dw.com/en/fact-check-trumps-team-targets-usaid-with-false-claims/a-71535712

Why do people still deny the Holocaust ever happened
xylophone replied to Rimmer's topic in Off the beaten track
Great post and in the 50s and 60s I saw newsreel footage of the liberation of these "death camps" with the emaciated bodies being bulldozed into mass graves....it was sickening and I have never forgotten it. Now on the reccomendation of some friends here I watched a movie called, "LEE" about the wartime photographer Lee Miller and it showed some of the horrific footage she took during the liberation of these death camps. The world should never forget this/these events and anyone who denies that the Holocaust ever took placeis an absolute fool or a far right nutcase and some. We must NEVER FORGET. -

Trying to ignore the nose-to-tail traffic on the road just outside of my condominium block, I, along with a nice NZ couple whom I've just recently met, set off by car for Churascco, which although is not too far away is far enough away for myself and one of the Kiwis, as we do have some mobility problems. So apart from the traffic and the idiots weaving in and out of it (mostly foreigners) some at quite high speed, we managed to get there and enjoy two really great Black Angus tenderloin steaks, although the salmon steak was a little bit dry for the wife of the Kiwi guy. When we got to the restaurant there were only a couple of people dining, but it soon filled up to capacity, such is the popularity of the place and for people who like meat (in the main) this place is a godsend. My previous night time activities of visiting bars in Bangla have been curtailed somewhat and in truth, I don't miss that aspect of Patong nightlife these days, although I have to say that I did like catching up with friends at Blue Beach Café and Restaurant and enjoying the food, before heading off to bars in Bangla, but it became a chore rather than something to look forward to, mainly because I really don't drink beer and secondly because trying to talk to bar girls who really couldn't understand English and who only wanted a drink, started to get on my nerves. Jumping around a bit here, I was very surprised to see the owner/manager of one of my favourite massage shops, sporting a wedding ring and it appears that she got married to her long-time boyfriend a couple of weeks ago, which was surprising because just a month prior to that she was shacked up with another guy here, and when I asked her about this she said both of these guys were "long-time boyfriend" and they obviously didn't know about one another! Luckily enough they didn't visit Patong at the same times so she was able to juggle this/these relationships well. It just goes to somewhat prove the old adage here that "you don't lose your girlfriend, you just lose your turn". The recently completed "Patongo" whatever it is supposed to be, is still suffering from the very commodity which could make it successful, i.e. customers, although I did see a few folk sitting there last night, but probably not enough to make a profit for anybody and I have to wonder what possessed the person who built/financed it to go ahead with it when Banzaan market, Jungceylon and all that this offers, and slightly further away TOPS are in direct competition? Before I forget, I did take this NZ couple to La Capannina Restaurant a week ago and they thoroughly enjoyed it, as did I, as I mostly always do. On that note, a lady friend from way back who used to have a hairdressing salon here and whom I've known for years, is back in town for a while, and she phoned me and we've arranged to catch up, so it's quite possible I will try the Italian restaurant just off Bangla called "Anema e Core" as I haven't been there for quite some time, but I have to be mindful of the distance to walk because after my accident, the muscles in my legs seem to have weakened somewhat. Looking forward to tomorrow because I will go to Phuket town to pick up my daughter and have lunch and do a little shopping, and I haven't seen her for a few weeks because she has been in Phitsanulok visiting her mother, so that will be a nice change. Nothing much else to post about and certainly nothing exciting!! .

Last night I watched, "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" which was mentioned by another poster and it provided an "ok" evenings entertainment, but didn't do anything to draw the viewer into it, neither by characters nor plot! However it was supposedly based on a true story?? Not one of Guy Ritchie's better movies IMO. -

I laughed at it the first time round a few years back, but always found the Python humour to be "adolescent humour" so I've outgrown it I think. Humour wise, I liked Morecambe and Wise and Blackadder (most of them anyway) and as I've mentioned previously "The Thin Blue Line" and this one still makes me laugh/chuckle even though I've watched it quite a few times and when I'm feeling in need of a laugh, this is the series I watch. Nearly forgot to mention Fawlty Towers, although I was never a fan of Basil Fawlty's manic rants, but most of it I liked, again no laughs just smiles, and of course The Two Ronnies. -

I sat through the three hour-long movie "Babylon" starring Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, amongst others and although it took a little time to get into what was actually happening, I did warm to it eventually and stayed with it right through to the very end. It didn't get good reviews, but it was an interesting movie and this write-up describes it perfectly: – "Decadence, depravity and outrageous excess lead to the rise and fall of several ambitious dreamers in 1920s Hollywood as the industry begins to transition from silent pictures to the world of sound films". Some of the leading characters in it were loosely based on movie stars and moguls at the time, so an interesting watch IMO. -

I watched it again (first time when it was released) or should I say I tried to watch it again, but it didn't even raise a smile, so off it went!
