Advice?? Bank accounts on death
worrab replied to rasalvaje's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Using a reputable lawyer actually makes sense. A will needs to be in Thai as well as English. We had to ask if our lawyer could be an executor alongside family members. The reason being that the banks have to be seen regarding the accounts and applications have to be made to the courts for the release of money from the accounts. There are other considerations a Thai lawyer is more able to do than you as a farang. Yes, you can do it yourself but you will be leaving a minefield behind you for others to sort out! My wife and I did it this way to make life a damn sight easier for our son. Everything is in black and white and will be easy to go through probate. -
Advice?? Bank accounts on death
worrab replied to rasalvaje's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Get your Will written by a Thai Lawyer and this will include the 2 bank accounts. Then state who you wish to leave the contents to. Name who you wish as executor and this can be the Lawyer, if need be. Job done. -
Two obvious questions is how many days are you in Thailand for in a calendar year? Are you remitting monies to Thailand? Under 180 days then no need to worry and the same if you are not remitting monies. If you are on a tourist visa, then not very long unless you are looking to change to a long term visa? Why worry about a TIN and open up a can of worms?

Opening a bank account
worrab replied to Aussie999's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I think you may find this statement incorrect. I hold 2 accounts with Bangkok Bank, an account for Immigration and a joint account. I wished to close the Immigration account held in Bang Saphan and open it in Hua Hin where I now reside. I was able to do this with the joint account back in Nov/Dec 2024. Bearing in mind I have lived here for 10 years and always been with Bangkok Bank, this is now no longer possible! 3 months ago, no problem but the banking rules now prevent this happening until it all changes again. -
what apps do you recommend for calling overseas from Thailand.
worrab replied to stupidfarang's topic in IT and Computers
I think you will find that it is not dictated by company policy. It is a case of ensuring the recipient of the call has also signed up to Teams as this is aimed more for the business user than personal. But it is still the case. Seems a real mess to me having had Skype for many years and being so much easier. Just dial a landline number anywhere in the world and you were connected with no problems. 120 minutes a month for £9.67 a year under “grandfather rights”! -

And your point is?? This was with reference to the app Teams! And answering about using Teams and the drawbacks! -

My brother in law uses it at work, Brinks. He says that it can only be used if the recipient is signed up to Teams as well. Nothing to say that you cannot use it for personal, as long as your friends will sign up to it as well. Bloody inconsiderate of Microsoft as Skype was my go to in order to chat with my mother, now sadly deceased, on her landline. Also using it for calling pension companies in UK as well as HMRC. Will look in My Tello as recommended by other posters. -

Correct me if I am wrong, but info I have says that the person you are calling must be on Teams as well. This is why I am not bothering with it. Teams is set up for businesses not for personal calls as was Skype. I consider it a really bad move on behalf of Microsoft to alienate personal calls. -

I have never seen a slump test done in Thailand for any concrete pours. Always like water as you say! No strength whatsoever! -

Hua Hin is 20THB so I am led to believe.
-
I used my Bangkok Bank manageress to sign off mine the other week. But it is done with an accompanying letter signed and stamped as BB are not allowed to actually sign outside documents, if that makes any sense. I am also told that your local police station will sign it for 20THB.

Last year, we were alerted that Kasikorn Bank (KBank) began issuing emails requesting compliance information under the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) and FATCA (for US citizens). It was predicted other Thai banks would follow suit—and now, some expat clients of Bangkok Bank have received similar requests. We can be reassured that this is a standard procedure, in line with Thailand’s commitment to global tax transparency regulations. Bangkok Bank is complying with CRS and FATCA regulations: For Americans: FATCA requires banks to report account details to US tax authorities. For Non-Americans: CRS ensures tax residency information is shared with international tax authorities to prevent tax evasion. This is not unique to you or your bank—all Thai banks are required to implement these measures following Thailand’s adoption of the CRS agreement in 2020. Under CRS rules, banks must: Confirm the tax residency of all account holders. Identify any connections to other countries for tax purposes. Share financial account details with local tax authorities, who may exchange this information internationally if needed. This ensures overseas income and assets are properly declared. While this may feel new in Thailand, it’s a standard practice globally. Switching banks won’t avoid these requests, as compliance is mandatory across all Thai financial institutions.

Should be interesting as I am flying Thai in June BKK-LHR-BKK Business Class for the first time in 5 years. Mainly because the timings suit me better this time and the price was very cheap in comparison. Booked at the right time! Been flying Emirates and this will be an interesting comparison! -

Foreigners Face New Hurdles in Opening Thai Bank Accounts

I have been banking with Bangkok Bank for nearly 10 years. Last October I was able to open a Fixed Term account with no problems. Having recently moved to Hua Hin, in order to move my accounts, I had to get a CoR which is now valid for a year. No problem with that.
