This article says they overthrew the civilian government in 2014.  I'm sorry, but I was here.  It was in 2010, and it wasn't due to corruption.  It was due to total chaos - fires, bombings, riots, snipers, people hiding in temples, entire areas losing electricity and cell phone service.

20 coups. it is just a power struggle. the events you mentioned were just excuses to size power. system is flawed here with the minority not being able to hold onto power in democratic elections. need to get a system like the west where the powerful own both political parties.

Saw the first   '  class photo  '   of the G20 delegates and there was the PM in the back row being totally ignored while most of the others were happily chatting away to each other.

Was he simply obeying his hosts instructions to sit at the back and keep quiet   ?

Still it won't stop the official Thai releases as to what a roaring success he was.

wounder if the boss speaks english.

"BANGKOK:-- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha has issued a directive for the police that, from now on, suspects arrested by the police or the military must not be presented before the media at a press conference as such act amounts to a violation of human rights."

i posted thati guess it would last for 3 weeks before we saw a suspected crim in the news again. turns out it was almost 3 weeks less than that.

It's a free country.Men having power over women is 19th century thinking. What the man does about the deceit is up to him.

western man thai woman relationships can not be thought of in a traditional sense. in most cases the man has money and the woman does not.  so many times i have seen the westerner trying to get their girl out of the bar scene. the bar girl is just trying to milk the guy for as much as they can until the westerner catches on and give up. the level of denial by many western men is quite incredible in many cases.

Did you accidentally answer to another post on the wrong page? Live and park your gf? Guess you meant leave and park, but even then it makes no sense. Sorry, I might haven't read that it's about bar girls here.

You're paying for your gf's friends' hair jobs? And what about the horny foreigners with more money?  A joke?

Coffee shops pop up almost everywhere in our city and not to many people sit inside.

I've tried a coffee once, served in a plastic cup inside the shop.

    Edited to add:

It's the same with so many other shops here. One starts a business and it runs well. Then you can see a similar shop not far away and within a few months they're all over the city.

They don't seem to recognize that they destroy each other's business by doing so.

think missandry nailed it. there are so many coffee shops because there are so many western men wanting to give their girl a job that does not involve them selling them selves. cheaper and less grief just paying them a salary.

  6. pointless promoting foreign investment now and have it failing. foreign investors dont like putting money into countries run by non elected governments, especially when they can seize assets and sell them without even having a court case.

i only have about 1 million to get out of thailand and i will have nothing left here. wonder if i can just use my ATM card back home to clean out my thai bank account.

I just checked on Reflection. Seems to be finished but only 1-2 BR units for rent. Any newer development like reflection with 3+ bedrooms anyone can recommend? Same quality like Northpoint, Reflection and such buildings. No ghost buildings please.

Well maintained, good quality, good security, ocean front.

try cetus. pretty nice development on jomtien.

I live at Jomtiem, a pretty good normal life, not unlike other areas I have lived in Thailand. Besides walking St, Soi 6 etc, I dont see any great difference from other Thai places that have a western/tourist population.

I still havnt woken up in a bath full of ice, missing a kidney

jomtien is a great spot but i would not swim in the ocean any more. back to nz to finish the kids schooling. think i will move to hua hin after that.
