  1. This is what I read a few days ago and it states 10th digit is the manufacturing year.

Maybe it is in some countries?

    This is what confused me.

Each of these 17-digits signifies important statistics of your car. Below is the information regarding each of these VIN:

First Digit: Details of where the car was manufactured.

Second and Third Digit: Details of the manufacturer.

Fourth to Eighth Digits: Details of the car’s brand, engine type, engine capacity and the fuel type of the car.

Ninth Digit: Security code provided by the car manufacturer.

Tenth Digit: Manufacturing year of the car.

Eleventh Digit: Manufacturing plant of the model.

Remaining Six Digits: Unique serial number of the car.

  2. Thanks a lot Jas, it has helped me.

I did search and knew that the 10th character indicated the model year. I am not sure if I read or if I just assumed that it would be the year of manufacture but I was wrong.

The link you gave me has helped.

I can see that my 10th digit of N can be 1992 or it can be 30 years later 2022.

So I guess it is not the year of manufacture and the model year of the car in the showroom is 2022.

It is still confusing that the model is being sold now but the VIN indicates 2022.

I just really wanted to double check when it was manufactured and thought the VIN indicated this ...... but it doesn't.

    Thanks again for your help

    Keith

  3. Thanks Charlie,

I have bought a few items on Lazada that I was pleased with but after I purchased a Samsung A70 phone for my gf I could see it was clearly a fake and I did get my money returned. Later I purchased 3 flash memory pens that were fake, they would store OK for about a third of the capacity, luckily I wanted to back up a lot of data and so discovered they were fake quickly. So a bit reluctant to purchase electronic gear from Lazada now.

I live in Khon Kaen but aim to relocate to Hua Hin hopefully by the end of this year. After visiting two places Honda main Dealer and then Toyota I have decided to wait and buy a car as soon as we get to Hua Hin. So it would be places in Hua Hin I would be interested in.

  4. Yesterday I visited a main Honda car Dealer to look at a  new Honda City Hatchback.

One of my must haves is a good Dash Cam with a camera at the front and the rear. I have never owned a car with a Dash Cam but I would like one good enough to read number plates if that is possible.

The lady showing us the car said it does not come with a Dash Cam but I can have one fitted, Honda’s own make for 4,120 baht + 7% VAT.  That would be OK but after inquiring she said that it would only be with a camera in front. I said I would need a rear camera but she could not suggest a solution.

To me this seems very strange? I would have thought that someone who wished for a Dash Cam would want a rear camera as well as a front one? If no rear camera you would not capture the truck that fails to stop and crashes into the rear of your car.

Can I please ask, is it normal to have a camera only at the front?

Also I guess the solution would be for me to have a dash Cam fitted after purchasing the car.

Anyone know of a good dash cam with front and rear cameras?

    Thanks in advance

    Keith

  5. Hi all,

I wish to purchase a car in the near future and after some reading decided on the new Honda City Hatchback as I believe it is replacing the Jazz in Thailand.

I visited a main Honda Dealer and looked at a SV City Hatchback.

I was interested in seeing the VIN number.

I have uploaded the piece of paper stuck to the windscreen.

    9djTc1wRPKh3BCtva2PZ5mJJU3Sk3B21VfUgKsWXCJUn7NtOt7AaeAzEoZE9R1KQMWwvTOHyjn0oI46gUVdiwQ3m7E1MSntXXkuRGgebs_muRyEEMMyJ4X75T0h3PPTIgW7QGdnk

I checked down by the side of the drivers seat and can verify that the VIN number was the same as on the paper stuck behind the windscreen which is       MRHGN7860NT105658

They do label it as the chassis or frame number which I assume must be the 17 digit VIN.

I entered the VIN into an internet site and get the result

MRHGN7860NT105658 Honda -- 1992 VIN Decoder & Vehicle History Report

    Manufacturer:

      Honda Thailand

    Brand:

    Honda

    Model:

    --

    Check:

    0

    Year:

    1992

    Sequential number:

    05658

It was not manufactured in 1992 so I am doing something wrong!

Unfortunately the sales lady did not know anything about VIN numbers and pointed to the piece of paper.

When I do buy a car I feel it would be good to check the VIN number.

    Any help much appreciated

    Thanks

    Keith

  6. Thank you @KhunBENQ and @Neeranam  for your replies and extra information. I just asked my gf again and she said again that the lady said we would need to pay the full amount. I will telephone myself in 2 days time, hopefully they will speak English.

I think you made the right decision KhunBENQ in not travelling to Germany and then back to Thailand, it would put you at more risk while travelling and could be very problematic and expensive.

  7. On 7/13/2021 at 10:27 AM, KhunBENQ said:

I had registered interest and recently paid deposit for Moderna at Ratchapruek hospital. Vaccines expected no earlier than October (and steady bad news about further stretching).

Registration was through the THG (Thonburi Hospital Group) website.

Don't know what the current status is.

Your wife can also look directly at the RPH webiste:

    https://rph.co.th/en/

    Thank you KhunBENQ,

My Thai gf has just telephoned the Ratchapruek hospital and she said that they told her that if I register I would need to pay the full amount of 3,300 baht for the 2 jabs and they will receive the vaccines in October, so 6,600 for both of us.  I do not mind paying for the vaccination but I also think that many countries like the US, the UK etc. have vaccinated a high percentage of their population and when they no longer need more vaccine then there will be plenty available from the manufacturers, so I may be wrong but by October and onwards I think that the private hospitals in Thailand will easily be able to buy vaccines.

To help me decide can I please ask if you paid the full cost or a lower "deposit" amount?

    Thank you

  8. Hi @YorkshireTyke  I had another look at the rainfall levels on

    https://www.meteoblue.com/en/weather/historyclimate/climatemodelled/hua-hin_thailand_1153269

I still think most likely more rain in HH during Sept and Oct but probably different sites state different data. Also I do think on the whole you are right and the amount of rain will not be that important, so thanks for that.  Plus if cloudy and not raining I regard that as good.

I know most of the covid cases in HH are in the factories but I don't know how far the factories are from where I intend to stay and don't the people that work at the factories sometimes visit other places including the beach, 7-11's etc.?  Also people pop down from Bangkok. So I do think more chance of catching covid in HH than KK but I do understand your thoughts and it is small in both places so not matter, especially because we do not mix closely with a lot of people.

Probably at a very high risk are the people that serve in places like 7-11's

I do understand you and think that I am over thinking things. Pet is out doing her exercise dancing in the nearby park that she does every evening.

I'll mention it again when she returns, I know if I really wanted to go very soon she would go but I am still 50/50 about going now or waiting a while. I know she would feel better after having a covid jab and I would too, plus I do not mind paying for the jabs if necessary but they are just not available, we have both registered.

    Thanks for your comments.

    Keith

  9. Hi @YorkshireTyke

I very much appreciate your comments as I was confused by some other comments in this thread.

I had a mental picture of people going into the sea, being stung by jelly fish, coming out in pain covered in dirty mud to be insulted by unfriendly people.

Thanks for mentioning the places where you can go to use a pool and gym. I have made a note about not swimming near the Hilton.

I have already subscribed to most Hua Hin clubs on Facebook.

Also thanks for the offer to be able to contact you.

At the moment I would like to go to Hua Hin and rent on a daily basis while looking for a long term 1 year rental. I would like to give it a 1 year trial as I feel that it can take time to discover places and to settle in.

I have looked at places on the internet and I might be wrong but I prefer to rent a bit South of the main HH beach area, close to Khao Takiep.

I have mentioned the running clubs but I am not a running fanatic. We joined some Hash runs on two different holidays and find it a great way to see the local area and to meet some good people as well as the exercise.

Because of the fact that there is less Covid-19 in KK it is a struggle for me but I have decided to show some sense as life here in KK is OK. So will delay the move for now but will go at the first good opportunity. Probably after October as I have looked at climate sites and HH has high rainfall in September and October. Also hopefully we will both have received the vaccine by November and/or HH will have less covid compared to KK.

I wish this Covid virus would go away. My delay is a small inconvenience, many people must be suffering a lot.

  10. Hi @Felt 35 I have learnt a few things, that swimming in the sea at Hua Hin is not so good as I thought and that the True Arena was a public place as the one in KK is public and free or cheap to use. Also there being no public swimming pool surprises me a bit. For me it makes little difference as I intend to stay in a condo building that has a large pool but it does suggest that Hua Hin does not cater for the local people.

One running club is the Hash House Harriers - it has groups all over the world, there is a group in Hua Hin, the other group is the Hua Hin Trail Runners. You think you can easily find these by a Google Search.

  11. Hi ed to answer your query.

Pet is very easy going, she is a great cook, actually very interested in cooking, the breakfasts I have are like on "master chef" .... I do my bit in the morning and do some cleaning but it is only a studio apartment ????

The main reason for me is that there are more clubs (not nightclubs) attended by more English speaking people. Khon Kaen has been good and still is but I would like to try living in Hua Hin for a year.

Due to the Covid-19 and high rain in Sept and Oct in Hua Hin and all the helpful comments it now looks like it will probably be November before we move.

So Pet was much like me a bit undecided due to Covid-19, the virus is low in KK, lower than in HH. There is added risk if we travel to Bangkok then to HH by public transport ......... just a social distancing thing.  Less risk if hire a car.

  12. Thank you @grainand @Felt 35

I had looked at the Petanque club in HH which looked very good, free for 3 months then 1000 baht membership for 1 year. Members play free. Very reasonable I thought. Also the 2 running / walking clubs, low charges or free, also very good. Pet can do the outdoor exercise for the same cost of just 10 baht for an hour.

All very good and I thought with the benefit of lovely beaches and a swim in the sea.

After your comments I have had another look and tennis seems to be very expensive at 400 per hour at the Arena or at a private tennis club in HH. Also I now realise that swimming in the sea may not be so good as I was thinking, pollution and jelly fish possibly being a problem.

    Opinions differ a lot.

I would still like to go and live in HH for 1 year to decide for myself, we would both miss Petanque if that didn't work out well but tennis for me is not that important. The running clubs I am sure will be good.

After all we can always return to Khon Kaen.

    Thanks for your comments

    Keith

  13. Thank you all very much for the comments and advice.

Before we went to play petanque this morning we had decided to go ahead and relocate. This afternoon we changed our minds and decided to wait for a while longer until hopefully the covid-19 situation improves.

@Neeranam  I live very close to the Sports Stadium which is approx 600 metres West of Kaen Nakhon lake and I play tennis there. I have played a couple of times up past the main post office at the courts opposite the Police Station. Where due you play? I have played some golf around KK but stopped as I much prefer playing Petanque.

Thanks again for all the comments everyone, I am sure we will move to HH, I hope it will be fairly soon.

    Cheers

    Keith

  14. Thanks for the comments and advice. I am lucky and don't have any health problems, nor my gf, neither of us take any medication and both healthy.

At the moment I'm still not sure.  I have looked at the climate in HH and see that in Sept and Oct there is a lot of rain. So if we leave it much longer then we may as well wait until November.

Sorry all, I'm not normally so indecisive, well maybe occasionally, but my girlfriend said about a week ago that she would like to have the covid jabs before moving, so I would feel guilty if I was too insistent about moving soon and we caught the virus.

But I think she is coming around to my way of thinking about moving soon after I decided to rent a car for the move.

    Thanks again

    Keith

  15. A bit about myself.

I am age 68 and from the UK, my Thai gf aged 55. We both like to keep healthy. We both play Patanque almost every morning, in the early evening my gf does exercise dancing in the nearby park and I play tennis. We almost never go out socialising later in the evening, ready for sleep about 10:30 pm.  Writing this to explain that we naturally social distance.

We rent an apartment in Khon Kaen. It would be ideal to have the covid-19 vaccine tomorrow and give notice to leave our apartment, but that is not going to happen.

There is a low number, sometimes zero people testing positive for covid-19 in Khon Kaen. More people testing positive in Hua Hin but mostly from 2 or 3 factories.

Living in Khon Kaen has been good but we feel Hua Hin would be better and it is time to relocate.

I own a scooter, we feel there is no need to have a car but to relocate I would plan to hire a car for a few days.

I am keen to move to Hua Hin, have already details of several clubs, plus of course an occasional swim in the Gulf of Thailand.

We would stay in accommodation on a daily basis until we find a condo to sign for a 1 year rental.

There is probably less chance of catching Covid-19 in KK than in HH but because of our lifestyle is it so small in both places that it is not worth worrying about? Am I worrying about very little?

SO THE BIG QUESTION IS WOULD YOU RELOCATE NOW?

Any thoughts and comments very much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Keith

  16. My Thai gf and myself will soon be taking our 5th holiday within Thailand.

I think we now have it quite well arranged by taking a holdall bag (so no frame or wheels) that is near the maximum allowed size for a cabin bag and when packed weighs just under 7kg. We also take a rucksack that weighs when packed about 5 kg.

We hire a Honda Click or similar as soon as possible after landing. The larger holdall fits nicely between my legs.

We have until now always used helmets provided by the bike rental shop but they have mostly been very cheap thin helmets so I am thinking it would like to take our own if not too much of a problem.

I have already booked the flights to Surat Thani with Air Asia.

I will now also try to send a message to Air Asia.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of taking motorcycle helmets on a plane?

    Thanks

    Keith

  17. Hi, I live in Khon Kaen, now thinking of having another holiday. Maybe stay in Pattaya for a few days then a ferry ride over to Hua Hin.    I have never taken the ferry but have read it exists.

Because of covid and their not being many tourists does anyone know if the ferry is running now?

    Thanks

    Keith

  18. Hi, my name is Keith, I am from the UK, I live in Khon Kaen with my Thai girlfriend and we are very happy together.

We play Patanque almost every day in a park near a lake near to where we live and both becoming quite good at throwing the steel balls. I also play tennis at the nearby Sports Stadium and my girlfriend does her exercise dancing.

Life is very good here but I am also thinking that we all have only one life and a little adventure would be nice.

We did visit Koh Samui last year for 2 weeks and enjoyed it, especially the Hash house Harriers run.

I am thinking of spending 3 months in Koh Samui, a bit as a trial run to maybe even living there.

So now I need to look for rental accommodation.

    This is my question

Does anyone have any advice and suggestions which rental agency or person I can look at to rent for 3 months?

  19. Thanks Fat, a shame that you cannot ride all the way round, I just looked on Google Maps again and there seems to be only about 400 m between the southern most road West to East ……… that alone is interesting so I intend to have a look when there.

I have a Honda Scoopy that I ride almost every day in Khon Kaen, so I am used to riding and am looking forward to our next holiday. During our last holiday in Phuket 2 months ago I rented a Honda click, the roads were lovely to ride but it was rainy season and there were 2 storms so unfortunately we got wet a couple of times which spoilt it a bit, also was not allowed to swim in the sea at most places because of the stormy weather. This time the weather in Koh Chang should be dry.

Thanks for the tip about Kacha, not sure what I will decide because the prices are relatively low when we will be there. The first night will be an ordinary booking but I might also book Katcha for the last night on Koh Chang. If I do then that will be the last of our 10 nights allowed under the “We Travel Together” Thai government scheme.

    Cheers

    Keith
