The Thai Chamber of Commerce has laid out a comprehensive three-point plan, urging the newly appointed government led by PM Srettha Thavisin to take swift actions aimed at revitalizing the economy and the tourism sector. Chamber Chairman Sanan Angubolkul emphasized the significance of immediate measures and accelerated budget disbursements to address the current economic challenges. Sanan made clear the critical importance of prioritizing specific actions during the initial 100 days of the new government’s term, urging the new government to address the pressing need for stimulus packages intended to alleviate the burden of living costs on citizens and production expenses for businesses. The new administration has also been urged to quickly facilitate visa issuance for Chinese tourists and address the escalating demand for foreign tourists through increased flight availability. These proactive measures are particularly crucial considering the final quarter’s significance as Thailand’s peak tourism season, thus playing a pivotal role in the country’s economic rebound. Formation of the new cabinet is almost complete and it is expected that a full list of proposed cabinet ministers will be submitted to HM the King for Royal approval next week, Pheu Thai party’s chief whip and party-list MP Sutin Klungsang said today (Friday). He said that the party wants to take control of key ministries, such as finance, public health and transport adding, however, that the party must be flexible and may have to cede some key ministries, such as education and interior, to other main coalition parties, such as Bhumjaithai. Sutin said that he is not yet sure which ministerial portfolio he will get, if any. He dismissed, as groundless, speculation that the Pheu Thai party is in conflict with General Prawit Wongsuwan, leader of the Palang Pracharath, another coalition partner. The woman in question was caught using a state vehicle for personal use. The government official may have escaped with the abuse of state property for personal use, except that, while driving the car, she crashed the vehicle. The incident happened today but was quickly picked up and went viral on social media. The government official was involved in an accident that resulted in minor damage to the government-owned vehicle. But it was quickly revealed that the car was not out on official business at the time of the crash, and the government official now stands accused of using the state car for her own needs. The DDPM issued a letter directly to the governor of Phayao. The governor is in charge of overseeing all regional government officials and also holds the power to assign disciplinary investigations and actions. A Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) employee was accused of being drunk and disorderly at the wheel after causing an accident while driving an official company car. Several broken bottles of wine were found inside the woman’s vehicle after the accident. The accusation against the woman, the assistant and acting director of Payao Provincial DDPM, was brought to the public’s attention on a Facebook page “Watchdog” (ปฏิบัติการหมาเฝ้าบ้าน). The page stated that the woman used a DDPM vehicle, TR Transformer II with a registration plate number 7กบ 5092, for personal purposes, not work-related. According to the page, the woman drove the car home after attending a party at a restaurant called Wooden House Payao. The page accused the woman of drinking alcohol before driving which contributed to the road accident. The presence of shattered bottles of wine inside the vehicle seemed to corroborate these claims. A non-profit organisation demanded the Royal Thai Police punish a businessman who raped a 13 year old schoolgirl after he lured the girl into working as a maid at his company in the central province of Kanchanaburi. The Win Win Foundation revealed to the public that the parents of the victim reached out and informed the organisation that a female director at Nong Pang Tru School in Kanchanaburi lured students into providing sex services. The director, Thaparneau Maneesuwan, denied involvement but exposed the businessman named Charn, who deceived the school and the alleged victim. According to Thaparneau, Charn told her that he wanted to help students get out of debt and poverty by offering part-time maid positions at his company, saying the students could work there at weekends and earn 350 baht per day. Thaparneau stated that the company was quite far from the school and no students applied for the positions but added she knew another schoolgirl who was interested in the part-time maid job. Later, two students aged 13 years old applied for the position and worked together with the maid at the businessman’s company. Charn later complained to Thaparneau that the maid was lazy so dismissed her and one student, adding he would keep one student to work at the company. Thaparneau stated she received a call from the student’s parents at night on Sunday, August 13 that Charn took the student to a hotel and raped her. A late-night robbery at Jareon Sap Furniture Store in the Mueang district of Phatthalung left the owner reeling, with damages amounting to more than 8,000 baht. The store owner, Sirichai Nunong, who reported the incident today, stated that the robbery was the second of its kind to occur around 1am, on Tuesday, August 22 despite the presence of numerous security cameras. The miscreant, believed to be a repeat offender, pilfered around 700 baht from the store and caused significant damage to the merchandise in his search for items of value. The theft is not an isolated incident. Sirichai recalled a similar event occurring three to four months earlier. The thief had then targeted the shop’s front pavilion, causing damage to the door and the pavilion but making off with little of value. Sirichai is convinced that the same individual is responsible for both crimes, noting a change in the suspect’s appearance from long to short hair. Sirichai later tracked down and confronted the suspected thief, whose residence is not far from his own. The suspect was wearing the same trousers as during the robbery, and the locals confirmed that he had been involved in similar incidents on several occasions, reported KhaoSod.
