  2. Police arrested a 16 year old drug dealer in the central province of Ratchaburi on Tuesday, seizing a pickup, four motorcycles, and a cache of drugs, including heroin, ecstasy, ketamine, amphetamine, and crystal meth. Baan Pong Police Station organised a press conference to report the successful arrest of the teenage drug dealer, Jor, at his house in the Nong Pla Mor district of Ratchaburi province. According to the police, Jor attempted to escape but his efforts were in vain. Officers found drugs in his bag and discovered more after investigating his house where they confiscated 447 grammes of heroin, 43 tablets of ecstasy, 61 grammes of ketamine, 361 tablets of amphetamine, and 51 grammes of crystal meth. Aside from the drugs, officers also seized more of his assets which they believe were part of his unlawful endeavors. The seized assets included a white Isuzu pickup, a white Honda PCX motorcycle, a red-black Honda Wave 110i, a black Honda MSX125, and a white Yamaha QBIX. Jor also possessed several rounds of ammunition without permission, but no guns were found in his residence. Jor is the main drug dealer in the area. He transformed his residence into a narcotics hub, using it as a base to distribute drugs to the youth in the community. However, the teenager is not the only drug dealer in the community. 4. The Commerce Ministry reported a significant increase in Thailand’s rice exports. Data reveals an 11.91% rise in exports from January to August 29, compared to the same duration last year. During this period, Thailand managed to export a hefty 5.29 million metric tonnes of rice. Despite the impressive rice export figures, the agricultural sector in Southeast Asia has been grappling with lower-than-usual rainfall. This has adversely affected the growth of rice, palm oil, sugarcane, and coffee crops. The lack of sufficient rainfall has been particularly severe in Indonesia and Thailand, with these nations being the worst affected. The struggle with inadequate rainfall highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the agricultural sector in Southeast Asia. The region’s dependence on agriculture for both local consumption and export necessitates the development of effective strategies to manage the impact of unpredictable weather patterns. These strategies will be crucial in ensuring the sustainability and profitability of this vital sector in the face of climate change. As the world’s leading rice exporter, Thailand’s performance in rice exports is closely watched by international markets. The country’s ability to increase rice exports despite challenging weather conditions underscores its resilience and adaptability. However, the ongoing weather challenges underline the importance of continued investment in agricultural technology and infrastructure to mitigate the impact of climate change on the sector. 6. The Move Forward Party (MFP) called on Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin to address a charter to hold a referendum in his initial Cabinet meeting, as previously promised. This follows the House of Representatives rejecting MFP’s push to expedite a full constitution rewrite, currently the 33rd item on the House’s agenda. Highlighting the urgency, list-MP Parit Wacharasindhu acknowledged the House’s decision and stressed the new government’s need to prioritise a referendum in their first Cabinet session, possibly on Tuesday. He underlined the referendum’s key questions: whether to entirely rewrite the charter and how the responsible body should be chosen. Last November, the House approved a motion, backed by 323 opposition MPS, advocating a charter to hold a referendum but the Senate later rejected it. The proposal aimed to use a referendum to assess if an elected assembly should draft a new constitution, replacing the existing one. The MFP resubmitted a similar motion when the House reconvened, which was placed 33rd on the list. Parit argued that elevating the motion on the agenda would not impact the consideration of other issues, as MPs would merely be asked to confirm what several parties had already backed. 10. A 200 year old violin valued at 18 million baht (US$ 514,580) has been returned to its esteemed owner, a celebrated Chinese violinist after he accidentally left it behind in a Bangkok taxi. A coordinated effort from Thong Lor police and JS100 traffic radio was indispensable in locating the taxi driver who had ferried the Chinese passenger from a restaurant on Sukhumvit Soi 26. The passenger, the globally recognised violinist Xue Wei, disembarked from the taxi, inadvertently leaving behind a bag carrying the precious violin. According to Police Sergent Major Kriangkrai Kornthaisong, an investigation officer at the Thong Lor Police Station, Xue Wei sought the assistance of the police to inspect CCTV footage from the locations where he boarded and exited the taxi. However, they were unable to identify the taxi’s licence plate, reported Bangkok Post. The police, in turn, sought help from JS100 radio, who successfully traced the driver, Uthen Denkhunthod. Uthen arrived at the Thong Lor Police Station late Wednesday evening and presented the 200 year old violin to a Chinese associate of Xue Wei, said Pol. Sgt. Maj. Kriangkrai. The incident, which occurred at 4.40am today, was reported to Anuwat Ritthichai, Deputy Chief of Hat Yai Police Station. The crime took place in a lodging house in Hat Yai municipality, Songkhla province. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered 19 year old Game (name withheld) and 16 year old A (pseudonym), the boyfriend. Both were visibly shaken. They reported that they were sleeping in their room at the time of the incident. When the room’s lights went out, the ladyboy went to investigate the power board. At that moment, the perpetrator, who was lurking in the shadows outside their room with a shirt covering his face, revealing only his eyes, attacked. He grabbed her by the neck, threatened her with a knife, and forced her into the room to perform oral sex, reported KhaoSod. Game further elaborated that the intruder attempted to perform anal sex but was unsuccessful, so he forced her to perform oral sex instead. Out of fear, she complied but had to stop shortly after starting due to nausea. The perpetrator then masturbated to completion before fleeing the scene. The victim revealed the attacker bore the characteristics of a drug addict, was tall, thin, and had a bent penis. The boyfriend stated that he was unable to help his partner during the oral sex incident for fear that the attacker would stab her if he tried to intervene. Hence, he had to let the perpetrator drag his partner away. 14. A 14 year old girl and her mother are seeking justice after four men involved in the rape of the teenager remain at large despite the brutal incident taking place in April in northern Thailand. Huay Talang Police Station officers have been accused of ignoring the case, while the girl’s school has been charged with hiding the truth from the public. The victim and her mother urged a Facebook page to spread her story in the public domain as the case has not progressed in nearly four months. The victim reportedly attempted to take her own life after the ordeal left her traumatised. The Facebook page revealed that the sexual assault occurred at the house of one rapist in the Isaan province of Nakhon Ratchasima on April 28. The suspects were friends of the victim’s boyfriend, who lived near her house. The Facebook page emphasised that the suspects still lived their normal lives and hung out together near the victim’s house without feeling any guilt. The page added that the older sister of one suspect even threatened to sue the victim for defaming her brother while she revealed the rape to the victim’s classmates. The page accused the school director of trying to conceal the truth from the public to maintain the school’s reputation and pressuring the girl not to reveal the issue to the media. The page stated that the victim and her mother had already moved out of the community and school due to the shame and embarrassment. The page demanded that the relevant departments provide justice to the victim. The Monsoongabage Thailand Facebook page shared pictures and videos of the blue dragon sea slug today and urged a marine scientist and lecturer from the Kasetsart University, Thon Thamromgnawasawat, to provide information and essential cautions to the public. Thon said… “The sea slug in question belongs to the species Glaucus atlanticus. They live in the mid-levels of the seawater and are often found far out at sea. It is a rarity to encounter them along the coastline. The powerful surges of waves and wind are likely propelling them towards the shore. They eat jellyfish, a Portuguese Man o’War, and absorb jellyfish’s sting cells in their own bodies, resulting in their violent venom.” By Petch Petpailin Caption: Photo by Sylke Rohrlach from Sydney via Wikimedia Full Story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/beach-warning-venomous-blue-dragon-sea-slug-spotted-in-phuket -- The Thaiger 2023-08-31 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. In response, officers from the Phuket Provincial Commerce Office initiated checks among retailers to detect any signs of price gouging during the event being held from August 28 to September 14. Two of the retailers scrutinized yesterday were a Phuket Grocery, located in Phuket Town, and Namsaeng Rice Trading Ltd, a wholesale rice distributor. Pathumphon Yamkerd, the Chief of the Trade Economic Supervision and Development Group at Phuket Provincial Commercial Office, spearheaded the checks at both premises. Upon inspection, officials found no evidence of product hoarding, a practice often resulting in unjustified price increases.
