The driver, Choonya Sathiranon and his colleague Thepnurak Choochuai, working in the Hat Yai district, Songkhla, South Thailand were operating express train number 169 when they spotted the man standing in the middle of the tracks. Realising the danger, they quickly applied the emergency brake to stop the train immediately. However, the man standing on the track was far closer than the standard stopping distance for a train. All the train conductors could do was desperately hope that the train would stop in time. If it didn’t, the man would certainly be killed, reported KhaoSod. Luckily, the train managed to screech to a halt, stopping less than 10 metres away from the man. The driver admitted that his heart dropped at the moment, but he was also glad that he and his colleague managed to prevent a disastrous accident, saving the man’s life without any harm to any person or property. They attributed the life saved to their alertness and experiences accumulated over the years, as well as the teamwork of their co-workers, for a happy ending to this terrifying story. Sailing from Phuket towards Phi Phi island around 11.45am today, he noticed the majestic mammal. The tour boat operator did not confirm if any tourists were present on the boat during the whale’s sighting. Charoen detailed that the whale seemed to be navigating from southeast to southwest. Shortly after its sighting, the humpback commenced its dive, with its tail rising above the sea surface before it embarked on its descent. Though initially uncertain about the creature’s exact species, Charoen later confirmed it was a humpback whale, based on the assessment of his captured photograph by the rare marine animal team from the National Science and Technology Development Agency. The Phuket Info Center revealed that humpback sightings are highly infrequent in the waters around Phuket. To put this into context, this was only the second official recorded sighting of this species in these waters, reported The Phuket News. A heated altercation between a tour bus driver and a Grab motorcycle driver yesterday led to police intervention on the main route through Pa Khlok, Phuket. The incident, which took place near the PTT petrol station, resulted in the bus driver’s side window being shattered. The tour bus, which belonged to Pornprom Corporation Co Ltd, found itself at the centre of the dispute. The bus driver, 36 year old Thiraphong Panchuay, stated that the quarrel was sparked when a small van tried to navigate onto a narrow road just as he was entering the main road. The van momentarily halted to allow the bigger bus to pass, causing an unexpected obstacle for the oncoming motorcycle driver. The motorcycle driver, identified as 42 year old Uruphong Kaosuk was travelling in the same direction and had to swiftly manoeuvre to avoid colliding with the bus. Unhappy with the bus’s abrupt intrusion onto the main road, Uruphong used his helmet to shatter a window of the bus, arguing that larger vehicles should yield to smaller ones. The resolution of the dispute was left to Police Captain Chanita Bunyanuch of the Thalang Police, who arrived at the scene shortly after. Both the bus driver, Thiraphong, and the motorcycle rider, Uruphong, were then asked to accompany Captain Chanita to the Thalang Police Station for further questioning, reported The Phuket News. Residents of Kok Pho in Buriram expressed their dismay at the state of a dilapidated road that has been in a state of disrepair for over 50 years, causing numerous accidents and commuting a challenge. They urgently request relevant authorities to expedite road repairs. Representatives from the villages of Kok Pho and Kok Ta Baek in the Isaan Khet district of Chalerm Phrakiat, Buriram, joined forces to voice their grievances. They staged a demonstration in the middle of the road between Teng Thong and Kok Ta Baek, which is a gravel road filled with potholes and stagnant water for approximately 500 metres. The villagers have been enduring the hardship of commuting on this road for over 50 years without ever seeing any attempts at repairs. During the rainy season, the potholes fill with water making travel extremely difficult and accident-prone. Hence, the villagers have united to file a complaint for the relevant authorities to inspect and undertake repair or construction of the said road to alleviate their suffering, reported KhaoSod. One resident of Kok Ta Baek, 55 year old Phen Chinno, explained that the road connects several villages and leads to the areas of Chalerm Phrakiat and Nang Rong districts. However, its poor condition with potholes and water-filled ditches makes commuting very challenging, especially during the rainy season. The explosion occurred around 9.52am at Soi Ekkachai 66/3 and 66/4, situated off Ekkachai Road. According to the detailed report from Rama 199 Radio Centre, the forceful blast sent shockwaves through the area, igniting a thick cloud of yellow smoke that rapidly enveloped the sky. This sight of the toxic-looking smoke billowing through the neighbourhood created a sense of fear and uncertainty among pedestrians and motorists who happened to be travelling along the streets surrounding the factory. Upon notification of the chemical tank explosion, fire trucks rushed to the scene alongside a diligent team of firefighters and skilled rescue workers. Twisted affairs unveiled: Mistress weaves crooked web of deceit The confrontation between a married woman and her husband’s mistress yesterday uncovered a complex crooked web of deceit in Bangkok. The mistress, who was injured after being stabbed by her lover’s wife, is also married. The mistress’ husband had no idea about the secret affair that later led to her injury. The Thai woman was arrested yesterday after she stabbed her husband’s mistress in Samut Prakarn province near Bangkok. The violent act was triggered by the revelation of her husband’s year-long affair with the injured woman. Her husband, Paira, had been diverting his financial resources towards his secret lover, leaving her and her son without any financial support. The issue became more complicated when a 47 year old Thai man named Pongsiri came forward as the legal husband of the injured woman who had been labelled a mistress. Pongsiri’s involvement in the relationship was revealed when he went to Bang Bor Police Station with his 23 year old stepdaughter after the incident to follow up on the legal process. Pongsiri revealed to ThaiRath that he and his wife had married ten years ago but they did not have a child together. His wife had a daughter with someone else but he loved her as if she were his child. Pongsiri admitted that he discovered his wife’s secret affair with the food delivery rider about two months ago but did not know if the relationship was serious. Pongsiri’s stepdaughter disclosed that she knew about the affair but did not want to interfere. She implored the media not to unfairly blame her mother, who was severely injured in the altercation. The National Health Security Office (NHSO) of Thailand announced that breast cancer screenings will now be available to all Thai citizens insured under any healthcare scheme, conditional on certain criteria. Deputy Secretary-General of NHSO, Attaporn Limpanyalert, emphasised the critical need for preventive healthcare measures in combatting the disease. This move comes as an extension of the existing provisions within the 30-baht universal healthcare package, otherwise known as the “gold card” scheme. According to Attaporn, preventive measures are crucial to the country’s health security. He insisted that breast cancer screenings should not just be confined to subscribers of the universal healthcare scheme, they should also be accessible to subscribers of other health insurance schemes. The eligibility criterion for such screenings includes being over 18 years of age and having a history of cancer treatment, or having family members who have or had battled the disease. “Early detection and early medical treatment can help save a patient’s life. Screening will reduce the high death rate among breast cancer patients.” By Mitch Connor Caption: Photo courtesy of NHSO Full Story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/breast-cancer-screenings-now-available-to-all-insured-thai-citizens -- Thaiger 2023-08-24 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
