The notion of this fat, old, whacky American from Pennsylvania, who lives up in Chiang Mai, barely ever bathes, leaves his house, has any visitors, getting a sex change and then being banged by other men is such a disgusting mental image to have to endure. I thought this is a family friendly forum? How is this tolerated and this thread allowed to continue to spiral into even more dystopia about it?

And this was about 20 years ago? And you were about 60 at the time when it happened?

That's a sad story and it sounds quite traumatizing. Was this all done in Thailand or in New Zealand?

I assume that if I used some of the weed you’re using now, it might not have the same effect on me. I probably wouldn’t get as high as you do from the small amount you’re consuming, I’d be surprised if I found it as strong. But everyone’s tolerance is different, and it can build up over time, especially if you’re using stronger stuff regularly. On average, a joint is about half a gram, so you’re likely consuming around a quarter of a gram in one sitting, maybe even less, not much at all. I stopped smoking a while ago and now only use a vaporizer. I load about 0.2 grams into it each time, take three or four hits, and then dump it out. That’s enough for me in one sitting with the stuff I usually use. After an hour or two, I might do it again, and maybe a third time later. In a day, I’ll go through about 0.6 grams over three sittings, and I stay solidly high the whole time. Some days I only use a total of 0.4 grams over two sittings. It depends on how I feel. When I have used mid-grade weed, I often loaded two rounds of 0.2 grams back-to-back, so I would vape 0.4 grams in one go. An hour later, I might add another 0.2 grams, but from there, no matter how much I consume, I never seem to get fully high. There’s a limit. I don’t fully understand why, but it seems that no amount of mid-grade weed gives me the same high as the stronger stuff. That's the real reason why I'm not a big fan of it. That’s just my honest experience. I don’t look down on lower-priced weed; I buy it from time to time to have around or to give to friends, but I rarely use much of it myself. When I do, it’s usually after I’ve had the higher-quality stuff and want something less strong to cap off the evening.

Why not just smoke less instead of it's too strong? I purposely don't use any of this mid-grade weed for the opposite reason. There is nothing wrong with it, but I could easily go through over a gram in a day without ever getting solidly high. I pay 2-3 times the cost of mid-grade, but I stick to the stronger stuff that is labeled in Thailand as "exotic". This way I need to consume less, which is better for overall health I believe, and I get a stronger high (while using a lot less weed) than I have ever gotten from any of the mid-grade stuff.

Agreed. There is a certain degree in life of misfortune, wrong place, wrong time. But generally, the understanding is that you make your own luck, good or bad. And this geezer certainly has made his own. Nobody has mistreated him, abused him, nor is he a victim of anything other than his own laziness and grifter mentality. If anything, he has possibly harmed others by taking from them when he shouldn't have.

I love the "Trasher" part of his website URL. That says it all and describes him perfectly. The irony about all the overpriced services that he's trying to sell on his website is that he isn't capable of providing any of them. He's too busy hiding under a rock in PP, making garbage begpacker videos, while worrying about where his next free bag of weed or $2 fried rice meal is going to come from.

And? Every loser has a story and someone else to blame for their own, usually self-inflicted problems. This guy was a gambler and had a good income prior to that from building houses. He's got first world problems. There are plenty of locals in Thailand, who are far worse off than he is, and they never had any of the opportunities that he had which he wasted away. I suggest you stop wasting time trying to gather sympathy for this guy. If you read through all the other posts, besides mine, you'll see basically everyone else seems to agree that he doesn't deserve any sympathy or handouts.

Many digital nomads are professionals. They work for a company where they work remotely, thus they can be based anywhere as long as they have a laptop. Many of the real digital nomads are making good livings and they're not on YouTube hitting rock bottom, whining about their troubled existence and looking for handouts. Thailand even has a digital nomad visa now for professionals who wanna live here and are making a good living working online. So I wouldn't describe either of these two guys as digital nomads in any actual sense of the classification. Also, here's a better description of this grifter type on YouTube that you suggested needs help and signs of what to look out for if you’re trying to identify traveler type YouTube channels with a cringy grifter vibe: 1. Heavy Reliance on Crowdfunding: If a channel repeatedly asks for viewer donations, crowdfunding, or support through Patreon while providing minimal content, it might suggest they’re sustaining their travels primarily through viewers rather than creating value through content. 2. Low-Quality Content with High Frequency: Some creators put out lots of content that lacks substance—like basic vlogs of daily activities without deeper insights about culture, history, or genuine exploration. 3. Sensational Titles and Thumbnails: Titles like “Living in Thailand on $5 a Day!” or “The Real SE Asia Expat Life!” are often used to pull viewers in. If the content doesn’t match the title or is overly sensational, that can be a red flag. 4. Focus on Cheap Living and “Hacks”: A lot of content focused on “how to live here with no money” or constant talk of “beating the system” could indicate an intention to live as cheaply as possible without engaging meaningfully with the location or people. 5. Avoidance of Legitimate Employment: Some YouTubers outright discuss how they avoid getting real jobs, sometimes claiming that they’re just “living the dream” as a “full-time creator” but with no real income source apart from online donations. 6. Legal Gray Areas: If a creator talks about visa runs, overstaying visas, or avoiding taxes, it can sometimes suggest they’re in the country without fully legal or ethical intentions. 7. Live Streams and Super Chats: Some channels rely on live streaming almost exclusively, banking on real-time donations, which may indicate they’re using their travel as a platform for live handouts rather than producing structured content.

Right, but that's a given about life. We all know that. So you were just stating the obvious. But as I said, staying on topic, this guy doesn't have that kind of bad luck.

Here, another member of the same loser wannabe grifter club:

Although it's fine to discuss and analyze this guy's situation out of curiosity, I think the whole pretensive of this topic is off. This guy doesn't need advice and he doesn't deserve any handouts. He's a grifter, with drug problems, plus he's lazy and potentially has other emotional issues. Nobody is going to give him any sympathy. Guys like him in Southeast Asia are a dime dozen. Go down to some of the islands in the south of Thailand, or to Chiang Mai and you'll find dozens of guys like him floundering and flopping on the cheap. It's been like that since the 80s. Might as well even close this topic as it's not really going anywhere.
-
I get your point, but that's a deeper analysis of "luck", which is more like misfortune and doesn't apply here. My point was that, under normal circumstances, it's very unlikely that many of us would turn out like him in a split second. This guy's problem has been self-inflicted by a grifter lifestyle that has gone on for decades. His situation isn't like being hit by a bus or suddenly having cancer. That's the kind of luck you're referring to where people's lives can be ruined or changed in a split second. All of his bad luck or misfortune or whatever you wanna call it is all based on his bad choices. He also seems to have criminal tendencies.

Fully agree. I caught that comment too where he said he's a young guy and still has time. Like you said, he's probably late 40s. And I would agree that he's royally screwed too and the only major turn will be if he gets off of drugs and stops living like a loser backpacker lost in Southeast Asia.
-
Yeah, he's a troubled case. I'm assuming he has many more vices than he's letting onto. He doesn't speak like a man who is well adjusted.

Do Men Have Their Own Kind of “Menopause”? Or Is It Just Me?
RSD1 replied to 123Stodg's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Finasteride has had no effect on my libido. I wish it did. But I have naturally high testosterone so I guess that's the real issue. A good dump is part of good health and the right nutrition. Shouldn't be a luxury. -
Install the Airhub app and chill. Cheap and reliable eSIM for mobile data when in another country. No longer any SIM card woes when traveling. Thank me later.

You've become frustrated and obsessed. But you do you bro. If you keep stalking me I’ll put you on ignore, along with all the other tossers that started following me around like homeless puppy dogs.

Should I Tell My Friend That His Girlfriend Is Trans?
RSD1 replied to JK-Trilly's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Are you drunk? I couldn't even really understand what you're trying to say. Maybe you should have a lie down for a while and then you'll feel better afterwards. Also, you can rant at me if that makes you feel better. I don't take any of this stuff personally. I truly don't give AF. So let it rip if that's cathartic for you. -
Good point, but not necessary. I always travel with a bit of cash as a back up, but I also travel with no less than three different cards that can all be used to access money. So if one fails, you got another. And in many countries you don't even need cash anymore. You can pay for most things electronically using a card saved in the digital wallet on your smart phone. Just tap and go.

No, that was a rant, complete with advice about what the guy posting it should do with his life. -
Good point, maybe we should both expand our rants into longer posts. But you seem frustrated and I'm not. So you should easily be able to rant more. You could probably learn a few pointers from Bill Burr:
