Which destination my girlfriend and I should go?
Freddy42OZ replied to WanderlustJoy's topic in Bangkok
Because Skiing and Snowboarding is cool; and it's nice to spend some time in the mountains with the cold fresh air. -
What do you base that on?

I'm 55 too. I moved here for a job in 2008, but have been coming since I was about 7 years old (in 1974). I like living here because Bangkok is a nice big city with all the mod cons (now) and it continues to improve as they modernise it more and more. But if I could move to another country I would. I've got a European GF and we'd both much rather live in the UK, we just can't afford to at the moment. I'm working on a plan to move there in the next 5 years hopefully. I've lived all my life in Asia and I'm sick of living in foreign countries.

Thai Expert Explains High Electricity Bills in Thailand
Freddy42OZ replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I see solar all over the place in Bangkok. Loads of houses have them on their roofs. Bangkok also has some solar powered street lighting. -
Does your Thai partner know much about history outside of Thailand?
Freddy42OZ replied to sharksy's topic in General Topics
This is why after 15 years living in Thailand and a total of 50 years living in Asia, I have a European GF. -

Did you bother to research Thailand's solar energy plans or anything? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_power_in_Thailand https://www.pv-magazine.com/2022/10/31/thailand-introduces-fit-scheme-for-solar-storage/ -

Why are you paying so much? In Bangkok I'm paying about 5.08 baht a unit (approx) My bill last month (50 sqm, 2 ACs) was 1541.77, I used 303 KWh of power https://www.mea.or.th/en/aboutelectric/116/280/form/12 -
I've not had any credit cards for over 23 years, I have a number of bank accounts in different countries (having lived in a few places and opened accounts whilst living there). I also use virtual debit cards, scan transfers and physical cash. What I really need is a way to convert my crypto earnings back into fiat and get the fiat back to Thailand to pay my bills.

Returning Thai students from Sudan say escaped during ceasefire
Freddy42OZ replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Most Thai students went to Sudan to pursue Islamic studies on Sudanese government scholarships. One student said that the university is very generous. If any of them did not have the tuition fees, it would give them a 50-70% discount. Another student said that Sudan is a very beautiful country with its deserts, but it may not be as convenient as in Thailand, adding that most Thai Muslim students prefer to travel to Sudan to study, because of Sudanese government scholarships for foreign students. -
As much fun as weed is, some people prefer to dance and the high from Ecstacy is a lot more fun. Sometimes you want to dance, sometimes you want to just be able to party for a few more hours, sometimes you just want to chill out. Different drugs for different things. All drugs should be decriminalized.

Is slippery bathroom tile mandated by law?
Freddy42OZ replied to DudleySquat's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
A shower or bathroom floor will of course get a bit slippery with water and soap on it, but the question is more why can't you adjust your balance and movement so it's not an issue? -

Amid joints and cookies, marijuana business booms in Thailand
Freddy42OZ replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Making yourself? I got a free cookie when buying some other stuff. The cookie was delicious but the claimed 40mg of THC was probably not accurate as I felt very little from it. -
I think it's the burning of the straw that is the real problem.

I'm interested to know where vaccines are available and at what cost. Wouldn't mind getting boosters for myself, plus my GF and her daughter. -

Visa for 'Home ' working
Freddy42OZ replied to Delight's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Sounds like they are making excuses to stop him doing it. There is no risk to the company, the worst that could happen is the guy moves here and starts working, then something happens to put him in the spotlight with immigration somehow and he finds himself being deported back to the UK. The chances of this are so slim it's not worth worrying about. The real difficulty is him staying here at under 50 years of age without having to spend part of the year outside Thailand. -
She's very average. If there were 10,000 Police doing their jobs there would be uproar from the populace saying they can't afford proper helmets, you can't get helmets for very young kids, you can't have 3 or 4 people on a small bike if they are wearing helmets.... etc etc At the end of the day too many people just can't afford the luxury of safety and if the law is relaxed for them (which it is time and time again), then the law gets relaxed for everyone.

She clearly doesn't mind. Not every Thai is still stuck in the stone ages. Those quaint old rules about not touching heads and not hold hands etc are outdated and young educated Thais no longer care about them.
