Spend your money before you die.......or......
jas007 replied to EVENKEEL's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Back to the topic of money and dying. Simple. If you have a family, take care of your family. Otherwise, have fun, but try not to run out of money before you die. That probably means different things for different people. Whatever makes you happy, great. -
Why do so many people like Pattaya but hate Phuket?
jas007 replied to susanlea's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Phuket was the first place I ever spent any significant amount of time in Thailand. One month, back in the year 2000. Over the years I spent more time there, but lately, I’ve lived in Pattaya, mainly because it’s an easy trip up to Bangkok and an easy trip to the airport. In general, I have the impression that Phuket has a younger crowd. Mostly tourists, not so many retirees. More recently, if the news can be believed, it would seem as though rental rates have risen substantially in parts of Phuket, particularly in some of the popular beach areas. Anyway, unless I get a car, I’ll probably continue to live in the Pattaya area and use Bolt taxis when I want to go somewhere. I’ve thought of moving to Bangkok, but I’m not sure I’m up for all the aggravation of big city living. -
That’s pretty good. I quit 50 years ago. It took me three or four or five tries, but I finally got it right. One of my good friends, an old college roommate, supposedly started smoking because he was around me when I used to smoke. I quit a few years later, but he never quit until recently, when he discovered he had lung cancer. I’m not sure what the prognosis is for him. He had surgery' but the cancer came back and he’s now undergoing immunotherapy.

Yep. Some people are already on thin ice, and yet it’s beginning to look like the banking systems if the world may not be 100% reliable, going forward.

Unfortunately, you may be right. Something odd is happening, I think. Anyway, people should have a backup plan for the time between now and the inauguration of the next president. Longer term, there also the issue of central bank digital currencies that can be turned on and off at the whim of the bankers and politicians. Did you know that Crowdstrike servers are located in Ukraine? And the same company was involved in the Russian collusion thing.

Is this the same Nate Silver that had Hillary winning by a large amount in 2016?

Just a bit of advice for any expats here who may not have any kind of savings in a Thai bank, but instead rely on monthly transfers from their home country. Perhaps you should consider the possibility of a widespread internet outage lasting for weeks or months. What would you do? It may sound far fetched, but given all the strange “coincidences” we’ve seen lately, maybe it can happen. Maybe it’s time to pay some rent far in advance. Maybe it’s time to set aside some cash in Thailand.

So you’ve never dealt with the issue in a real world setting with real people? One college course and suddenly you’re the expert on insanity? You can draw whatever conclusions you want from the political discourse, but surely you must know the real world isn’t quite so simple. Calling someone insane doesn’t make it so. I think you’ve been brainwashed. All you do is repeat gibberish. Lies told over and over again by people with an agenda. People with an agenda willing to say and do anything to solidify their grip on power. And people like you often believe the propaganda. And is support of your position, you can only regurgitate the same nonsense that was fed to you. Circular reasoning.

My Blood Pressure Numbers are always Normal - I'm Confused .
jas007 replied to Bill Poster's topic in Health and Medicine
From what I can tell, home blood pressure machines don’t seem to be too accurate. I have one, and the readings can be all over the place, depending. And yet every time lately that my blood pressure has been checked at the hospital, it’s been totally normal. 117/68. Something like that. Fine with me. I can say the same thing about scales. The last two times I was weighed at the hospital (without shoes), I was 68.5 kilos. And yet the scale outside the Tops Daily might have said 72 kilos that same day. I’m about 5’11”. -
That’s why I didn’t say much here. People can go read about it and draw their own conclusions.

They seem to think you should, although the entire preheating process should only take a minute or two.

I think government workers are fairly well protected. But for the political appointees, they can’t just be fired. To be sure, Trump could try to eliminate entire agencies, so there could be some layoffs. Anyway, it’s probably not fair to describe the workers as being in a “state of panic.” If anyone should be panicking, it probably all the defense industry lobbyists.

The public gets to think whatever they want, right? If Biden leaves the race, it won’t be because of any medical diagnosis of insanity or of any other medically determinable mental condition. If Biden leaves, it will be because he was hounded out of office by leaders of his own party who have only one concern: remaining in power as long as possible. They can read the writing on the wall and they know full well that Biden can’t win. And so they’re more than willing to throw their “democracy “ out the window by ignoring the will of all the primary voters. Anything to stay in power.

It really does vary from state to state. Not only IQ levels, but education levels. And since it’s easy to move around, some states end up losing their brightest young people to places where they can make more money. But an informed electorate? Ideally, yes, but the current crop of Democrats seem to favor propaganda and brainwashing. No need for education when you can brainwash the public via a controlled media. Just feed them lies 24/7 and before too long they’ll believe just about anything. At least that seems to be the plan.

Will trusts from Thailand
jas007 replied to Foxx's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
One possible problem with that approach: trustee fees. Usually, trustees have to be paid. And in these days of low interest rates, trustee fees can be as large or larger than the income generated by the trust. Of course, this might not be a problem in a family setting if a trustee works for free. -
I think before they marketed Viagra, the drug under consideration was being researched for another purpose. They only figured out the ED angle my accident. And for what it’s worth, Cialis for daily use is legitimately prescribed as a treatment for high blood pressure.

Believe it or not, some the most respected medical experts in the world can be found on YouTube. I think some of those videos are also made to be podcasts for other channels, but in any event, they’re also on YouTube. It’s fairly easy to figure out which people actually know what they’re talking about and which ones just have an agenda. You should take a look sometime. You might learn a thing or two.

Whatever is supposedly wrong with an air fryer is beyond me. Obviously, they aren’t good for everything, but for some meals, they work just fine. I just use mine for cooking steaks or fish. A ribeye, for example. Add salt and pepper to the steak, preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees, and then cook for about 4 minutes on each side. The time needed can vary, depending on the thickness of the steak. I also cook salmon steaks in the air fryer. Except I cook those at 385 and don’t flip them halfway through. Those tackle maybe about 10 minutes.

I’m only 73, so I’m not yet at the point of no return, but I’d say some people may have problems earlier in life than others simply because of poor health. And I think genetics must play a role. Anyway, for anyone interested in experimenting, there are a few easy things to try. First, if you’re using any kind of mouthwash or toothpaste with fluoride, stop. If you’re drinking fluorinated water, stop. Second, look into the role of nitric oxide on ED. How you breath can make a difference.

Latest developments and discussion of recent events in the Ukraine War
jas007 replied to Rimmer's topic in The War in Ukraine
I’m looking at it with hopes that this war doesn’t escalate into WWIII. It’s not about “winning.” It’s about stopping the thing before it gets out of hand. And however that happens is fine with me. In any event, at this point it’s only the Western warmongers who are prolonging the war. But for the continued support of Zelenskyy, the war would be over.
