Anybody who believes that Putin fancies his chances against NATO is a fool. Putin is a criminal who has robbed his country, and he wants to keep control and keep the money he has stolen. As Lenin said “there are decades when nothing happens, and weeks when decades happen”. Putin has never been weaker than he is today. If the West could get a backbone they would crush Russia, just by supplying Ukraine what they need. Putin would get his throat slit by circling rivals before he could do anything. Unfortunately the US Russian assets have taken over the White House. America will soon be a transnational criminal regime, and the Constitution will get trashed. Heil Trump will be the cry.

Biden allows Ukraine to use long range missiles.
AlexRich replied to thaibeachlovers's topic in The War in Ukraine
Too little, too late. Biden should not have allowed himself to be deterred by Putin’s bogus “red lines”. -
Kind of misses the point, surely? Which was that many people have voted for a Government that might do great harm to something that it’s important to them. It was one example of many, to make a point.

Official: Trump Nominates RFK Jr. for Health Secretary
AlexRich replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Yes, claims made by a fraudulent doctor on the make. I believe his name was Andrew Wakefield. He headed to the US after he was exposed and censured in the UK. The Americans loved him for telling them what they wanted to hear. He ended up with an Australian supermodel girlfriend. The world has gone mad. -

So it looks like Polio, Measles and other such diseases are going to be making a big comeback. I wonder how many people will die as a consequence of putting this clown in charge of health? -
You really have fallen down that rabbit hole. So anyone who thinks Trump is a criminal or that Musk is authoritarian is a leftist? That’s a tired old trope propagated by MAGA morons. Has it ever crossed your mind that people on the political right don’t care for them either?
-
I think Musk dreams of a world controlled by rich/smart guys like himself. I think his natural instincts are authoritarian. He makes a big play about free speech but not when the criticism is directed at him. He grew up in Apartheid South Africa, and I think that system suits him fine.

I believe Biden put a $35 cap on insulin for seniors. It was just an example of the type of things that might follow a gutting of the US public sector. The point being that the consequences, none of which we know yet, will probably hit the poor harder. And Trump’s base support tend to be poorer.
-
The question that we should ask is Elon Musk a benevolent philanthropic person, or is he simply someone who is seeking to advance his own interests? Anyone being honest with themself knows the answer is the latter. Actions have consequences. Many Trump voters will suffer as programmes that benefit them get pulled. Some obese guy with a MAGA baseball cap is going to wake up soon and discover the cost of insulin meds are now going to send him into bankruptcy.

Is Goa a good place to hang out for a couple of months?

I agree. Pattaya has great shops, restaurants, cinemas … if you want to avoid the sleazier side you can do it easily.
-
I like Chiang Mai, like you, however the levels of pollution for months on end is too much. Six months are good though.

I think some idiot comedian just insulted Costa Ricans and Latinos … who have a significant number in Pennsylvania. That’s the problem when you co-opt racists into the cause.

Trump ahead in all battleground states - ALL OF THEM!
AlexRich replied to theblether's topic in Political Soapbox
It looks like RealClearPolitics, the polling company quoted above, are neither real nor clear ... but they are certainly political. As I said, this is all part of the "Stop the Steal" playbook ... get polling to reflect a clear win, and then dispute any loss as "stealing the election". This has been in the planning for years. An article in The New York Times said that "top political analysts" raised concerns about RealClearPolitics polling averages influenced by polls skewing towards Trump and not adhering to "best practices like person-to-person phone interviews" during the 2020 presidential elections. -

This tripe is all part of the "Stop the Steal" campaign that we will see after the Trump loss. "How could we have lost when the polls showed us winning?" will be the cry from the MAGA cult. The polls showed that Hillary was a shoe-in in 2016 ... but Trump legitimately won! -
I will look out for your "Stop the Steal" posts after the election.

It’s always amusing that those who are against Trump are called leftists? Leftists like Dick Cheney and Mike Pence … those kind of leftists. I think people will be surprised at the size of Harris’s majority, and the polls will be pointed to by Trump fascists as evidence of “the Steal”. The US is in for a difficult time post November but the Constitution and democracy will survive, for now. Watching MAGA extremists is reminiscent of Germany in the 1930’s … something I never thought would happen in the US.

Trump is going to lose this election. The battle will begin when he tries Stop the Steal Part 2 … this has been in preparation for a while now.

Kamala's honeymoon period is definitely over
AlexRich replied to matmee's topic in Political Soapbox
An exercise in wishful thinking? In contrast, Trump is deserting his supporters. Luring 5,000 into the desert for a photo opportunity only to ditch them in the dark and leave them stranded. All he has left is a reheat of the “Stop The Steal” fraud … which we will all witness once he is dispatched in November. -
Trump Challenges Special Counsel's Evidence Release in Election Case
AlexRich replied to Social Media's topic in World News
We are getting closer to the end of Trump and the truth about his illegal and treacherous activities throughout his life and during his period in the White House. The number of Americans who can’t see a traitor standing in plain sight is beyond my belief. And perhaps, finally, we will get the details on the first fake assassination attempt … which all seems to b3 forgotten about now. -
I don’t think anyone has a clue about the new tax rules, and that includes the Thai tax authority. I think it is best to play the 180 day game until everything becomes clear. Even when the situation becomes clear I question whether the tax authority will be able to handle it administratively? My fear is that they will apply double tax on everything, and ask for different documents to delay acknowledging your claim. My take - stay below 180 days and keep yourself out of it.
