  1. There is a serious variety of accommodation, and everyone is different in what they want or will endure. Caves, rivers, waterfalls, fishing,

wilderness..The place I stayed at was very rustic. Walking challenged. Wildlife was amazing and would spend the mornings across the channel,

ten - fifteen minutes, trying to get pictures of wildlife, elephants, buffalo, guru, monkeys etc.in my kayak. Frustrating as there was an

incredible amount of wildlife, and could hear them thumping about, but were very sensitive to disturbance. Cheap and three good meals included.

750 baht per person. I really enjoyed just sitting there in the kayak listening to the gibbons howling, and the animals rustling in the bush

hoping for a picture. A lot of times just a matter of timing. Easy to get boat to take you to other parts of the reservoir where there is something

to see. Just have to do your homework..

  2. Congratulations, Farangs and Thai's, as society evolves, expect better technical skills, from the trades people that work

on their projects. With the evolution in electronics and materials, trained technicians are more and more in demand,

and required. One negative comment is that attitude has to evolve too. Tradesmen on the local level are not good

finishers, and will walk away as the going gets tough, whether it be the customer or the project. In trade school customer

relationships needs to be taught, as well as ability for self learning, through the internet.. Finishing the job, so that it

looks professional and well working will be rewarded in references and additional work. It is great that they did so well

in international competition, and it is hoped that they form a role model for the younger trades people coming up,

and that the government does some good PR, in the same mode as an athletes are treated.

  3. I believe the self mindedness is the focal point of Buddhist, and showing relevance to to Buddha is one way of obtaining that state of mind

which is a spiritual state which also involves and incredible state of awareness of the present. . To Buddha there is no religion involved in

Buddhism, as it is a lifestyle living under certain beliefs which makes you humble in the truest sense of the word.. Human beings, being human

have made it a religion for many, as it is a need, for the majority of the human race to have an entity that will make life better and be accountable

for problems the human race has created. Most people need a crutch, or scapegoat. As with all religion, and beliefs, interpretations significantly

alter the visions of the initiators.

  4. I think the teacher could have the time if they make the commitment. In our schools down south, the kids spend 30% of there time

in sports days and the teachers spend 30% of there time in seminars or field trips. If 60% of the time they are in a non-teaching role

maybe the government can rent them out for some extra income to put develop better prisons to hold the criminals that are there for lack of education.

  5. It would seem that the person leaving the office would be the most knowledgeable to pick the candidate replacing him.

Unfortunately the person replacing him is less likely to change the existing system. Any problems with the retiring officer

is less likely to be exposed or policies changed. As much as I don't like committees a group of the appropriate people

with the right expertise should be picked, and first propose the standards the candidates should have, then recommend the

people selected. Then possibly another group chose the person out of the top three. Sounds inefficient but if you want the

right guy have to be patient.

  6. Governments and politicians normally don't understand the environment or anything to do with it.

Keep it simple. A simple mission statement that governs input, and then knowledgeable people formulating

rules and regulations that will enhance that mission statement. If everyone starts imputing rules and regulations

as per their gut feelings things will just get worse. Got to be a plan, guys. Every one will benefit, from the bottom to the top. Let's not give a few people big bucks, and avoid the opportunity for community forests, expanded industry and resultant jobs, and the buy in by the average joe in Thailand.

  7. Went in for a Retirement Visa Extension on July 30th. Basically the same as last year, except for a couple of changes. One, used to submit map of residence, but haven't done for a couple of years. They expect it now.

Together with the letter from the bank, a statement of the bank account for three months. They require one copy of everything, but wouldn't hurt to have two copies of your passbook. It took one hour, the wonderful lady behind the desk has a lot more work to do than she did last year.

  8. Some people are lazy and do not do their. homework. The worst places in Thailand are no worse than places in L.A., New York, and Chicago.

There are many places in Thailand where there is no problem. Go there. I feel a lot safer in some no so good areas in Bangkok, than in some

not so good places in London or Paris. Better yet hire the local Mafia to protect you. Works almost anywhere in the world. In Vancouver the

community was quite disappointed that the police shut down the local Hell's Angles Chapter as there was no crime in the area.
