Has the UK Embassy or Consulate arranged a meeting with Thai tax authorities to obtain some clarification regarding the new tax legislation ? It would be appreciated as we are currently in limbo. Most relevant would be regarding pensions and the double tax agreement. Does this exist ?? I would guess that well over half of expats living in Thailand have no clue or any credible information regarding this, which could become a major problem in January. Thank You

Has anyone guessed how much in pensions has not been transferred in January alone ?? Many expats, including myself, have brought over a year's funds in one go in December, and have no intention of bringing over any more (circumstances allowing)until this tax situation is adequately explained

Definitely the latter. When I last did my 90 days, the IO noticed my extension renewal is due soon, asked if I had the money in the bank. When I said yes, my passport was thrown back to me as obvious I wouldn't need an agent.

How could the Thai taxman get access to your bank details in your home country ? I would quite happily declare that my funds are savings/inheritance but that would be it. If HSBC gave my details to anyone sure they would be in breach of even basic banking regs.

It sounds like the hotels that ask for your passport, then flick through hoping to find you are on overstay. If they do find someone like this, straight on the phone to report and claim a finders fee. It's just another way that Immigration use to get other people to do their jobs.
