  1. Bit like Christmas then as I posted above. As for being the current attitude towards Songkran it's been the same (barring the loackdown fiasco) pretty much every year for the last 20 I've been here.
  2. Water splashing is of course part of the cultural tradition of Songkran. It is historical. It's about washing away the last year's bad luck. Catching up with family, showing reverance to elders, going to the temple, eating, drinking, gambling, etc, etc. and chucking water is a massive part of Songkran. The traditional bit about showing reverence to elders by washing head and feet is part of the superstitious belief but the party always outways religion during Songkran big time.
  3. Lowest 29% and highest 56% according to the PDF naming 4 reservoirs. 29% is low but 45% -50% for this time of year isn't that bad. It's been worse with several reservoirs being below 30% at the same time. If I remember correctly Nakhom Ratchasima was hit hard by this drought. >than 10 yrs ago I think.
  4. No suprise. Remember who runs the show here. The military.
  5. ... or more precisely a faltering economy and currency.
  6. Another magnificant article from The Thaiger GPT. This is what ChatGPT looks like.
  7. Please remember where you are. Doesn't matter how long any of us have been here WE ARE NOT THAI. This is the biggest and most important time for Thais. I have to say though I have seen Thais get a bit pissed off with water chucking during Songkran but it wasn't because of water consevation and Thais can get away with this sometimes. I've also been in the vacinity of a stabbing and a shooting during Songkran (I was rapidly escorted away from the scene by my Thai friends). People are drunk but if you want to loud moth your way into a conflict with Thais then go right ahead.
  8. I'm from the 2nd driest place on Earth. I well know about water conservation and water wastage. 20 years here and I've seen plenty of wastage on an almost daily basis nevermind just Songkran. Yep the reservoirs do get low BUT they do tend to fill up again. This isn't to say that some regions will experience drought conditions. I very much doubt that Sonkran alone will have such a devistating impact you seem to imply.
  9. By "young girl" what do you mean? A 22 year old Thai woman named Sujinda, Bang Lamung district of Chon Buri. This would be my guess who that is.
  10. All adults and if it wasn't for draconian ultra conservative laws would not be a problem.
  11. You can cancel it yourself. I suggest ringing the PM's Dept or TAT. Other than that don't winge. TIT and Songkran's part of it.
  12. This is completely incorrect. It was never announced that the water chucking/water guns would go for 21 days. NEVER. I would love to see this comment backed up with some evidence. Again I say it was NEVER announced that this year's "World Songkran" 🤣 would be any different to previous year's apart from certain celebrations (NOT WATER THROWING/SQUIRTING🤩) in certain places at certain times. This whole thing is a beat up and sadly the author of this article is on the band wagon.
  13. Joe Farrari? Boss? Thaksin? Quite a long line up in The Land of Smiles with the corrupt getting off scott free. Needless to say it costs them a lot of money to the other corrupt entities.
  14. This is exactly what I posted in response to many posters on this forum when this was first announced. So many saying 21 days is stupid etc. So plenty of folk on here also 'misunderstanding' the actual 21 day period. I said it then and it must be obvious to everyone now that there would be little difference and Songkran would be as usual. This year an extra day I think but still only April 12-16. The official Songkran period.
  15. The puppet PM would have had no say in this. This was green lighted by the military. Big brown evenvelope on this one that's for sure.
  16. I guess money from submarines purchase could do a lot more than this without a handout (strings attatched) from the CCP. The CCP always wants something in return. This is not good hearted generosity.
  17. This isn't very well thought through. I'm sure if you posted road carnage you would be arrested. Apart from this it's just adding fuel to the fire IMHO. Who's going to vet the uploads? Upload of ladyboys flashing their tits or a child pouring water over their mother's head? Sometimes I'm not 100% sure of somethings but on this I am. I would not be going out on a limb to say 98% likes would go to the ladyboys.
  18. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! This sort of thing is bad for tourism. I'm suprised Assoc Prof Chalerm Liewsisakul hasn't been charged for tarnishing the image of Thailand. Today's fire map. https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/map/#d:24hrs;@111.5,15.8,4.9z AQI https://aqicn.org/station/thailand-chiang-mai-cmis-chiangmai/#/z/11
  19. Motorcyclist and child fall into road sinkhole in Nonthaburi (video) Watch the video and you'll see why this is just another incorrect/misleading headline. Headline should read: Motorcyclist and child saved from falling into road sinkhole in Nonthaburi (video)
  20. This isn't a cut and paste by any chance is it?
  21. On one level yes but you need to go up a rung or two and keep going before you get to where the real power lies and who really is in charge.
  22. Going after 112 reform was part of what gave them such a great result a result that should have led to forming govt. The outmaneuvering as you say was carried out by non-elected senators put in place by a junta. This isn't political maneuvering it's a total corruption of the democratic process. You forget MFP did win and every Thai knows this and also know why their right to govern was usurped.
  23. They are a reformist and progressive party. Political maturity has nothing to do with the usurping of the democratic process which saw their rightful place to govern denied by the military. They layed out their policies and stood by them. This should be applauded and not criticised as immature.
  24. Yes and their betrayal to their voting public by jumping into bed with the military will not be forgotten or go unpunished. I believe that a majority of those who voted PTP, who came 2nd in the election by a large margin, would have prefered to see MFP govern rather than PTP jumping into bed with the devil.
