  1. How about the popular deep chicken tendons? It's like chewing an old rubber band dipped in oil. Yummy!
  2. Most Thai food is fried in the lowest quality oil possible. Greasy fried chicken and sticky rice for breakfast. All bread snacks are loaded full of palm oil shortening.
  3. When I first came to Pai I saw hill tribe women doing gardening with their breasts hanging out over their shirt, presumably to keep cool and totally normal in the villages. Rural Thai people used to go topless within the last 100 years too I heard.
  4. I first came to Pai in 2005 and stayed for 11 months and it was mostly livable but hanging on by threads. Fast forward to today (I visit 1-2 time a year to see my uncle) and it's totally ruined by tourism. The economy is like 99% tourism and doesn't even feel like Thailand. Nary a Thai to be found. In general the locals are probably sick of all the retarded stuff you see on a daily basis. Last visit this June I saw a guy wearing a leather vest with no shirt, a kilt and carrying a literal scepter. Imagine how tired the locals are of the antics and silly games.
  5. "You have cancer of the vagina, I must rub your vagina to heal you." "Yes doctor, whatever you say."
  6. I don't think I have a big problem with this. If the cop which was assaulted agreed to the bribe then maybe this was a fair outcome in his mind? Even outside of Thailand money is used to resolve disputes so why is this case so egregious?
  7. Very wise point. I've found if I have problems with neighbors (noise, feelings of needing privacy etc...) that it helps to know them. Having a person you're friendly with being able to look into your house is much different than a random stranger. Having said that I hate those Thai houses anyways and most of them are like that. You could be next to 100 rai of open land and Thai's will be clustered all together in some little housing project. If I was the OP I would move way outside the city and save yourself the trauma. It's harder to find rentals so most people do the easy thing and go to the city but it doesn't have to be that way.
  8. As an American it's undeniable there is a problem in the culture with polite language. It appears to be coming out of urban regions and popular media but it seems normalized in general now. it's totally embarrassing and shameful behavior. Fine, deport etc.. etc...
  9. There's some more footage here. They throw a massive brick through his window, lucky he survived but looks pretty smashed up at the end.
  10. This topic comes up often and I don't understand what exactly people are wanting. If you live in an area for long enough people will come to know to you as the local Farang. Are they wrong? What more do you want? If there was a lone Thai person living in some village in Europe would you not see them as the local Asian? The question is, do you want to be Thai? I mean really deep down Thai inside and out. Is that really what you want? I personally don't and I don't think may others would want that either.
  11. aaaaaaaand the they will continue to get bashed until they stop driving on the wrong side of the road around bends.
  12. Let me guess, they were speeding and driving on the wrong side of the road around a curve. Will anyone learn anything from yet another fatal crash caused by the same stupidity? Of course not.
  13. I'm a cyclist here so I get to see that side of the population I would say these are simply warm climate people and their strategy has been to go slow and keep cool. In general I see Thai cyclists going very slow and just enjoying the scenery rather than getting a vigorous workout. The younger generation seems to be picked up steam and getting more involved in sports and putting out strong cyclists now. Even so they'll never be able to compete with Europeans for genetic reasons. Just like how a certain region of Africa dominates the ranks of runners globally. Just how it is, doesn't matter though sports are more about having fun and feeling good than global competition anyways.
  14. Welcome to Thailand pal. Thai people are hopelessly inconsiderate with noise. It never seems to occur to them other people don't want to listen to their music. Same advice applies to him as to all us helpless farang, move before you sacrifice your sanity and do something you'll regret.
  15. no it's just normal Islam. Does a Muslim minority ever peaceful coexist or does it seek to dominate the infidels?
  16. I wouldn't be caught dead with a 4000 baht haircut. Shameful. My current barber in Chiang Mai just raised the price to 120 baht from 100 which it was for years and I have no complaints ever. Includes a shave even.
  17. judging by his own haircut and color I would say he doesn't know at all what he's doing and probably should be deported on that basis alone.
  18. Chiang Mai so probably? I need to get a reentry permit anyways and I'm leaving the country on the 3rd next month which is only a few days after my 90 report is due. Will they get me on the 3 days I didn't report before I leave the country?
  19. Yes my issue is with the online 90 day report. In fact I did a previous 90 day report after the Samui trip in January but that was in person and there was no problem. I'll go back to immigration and do it but I guess the online system has my address recorded wrong. It may be required to update the TM.30 online now to get synced but their system could just be buggy too. Doubtful the immigration people could fix it either but I'll ask.
  20. I'm new to the the non-O visa and got a surprise when my 90 report online was rejected because apparently my address was changed to a hotel I stayed at on Samui. What is the protocol here? am I supposed to update the TM.30 online every time I do a hotel or they change my home address? That seems like a bit much even more Thai immigration. I suppose now I need to go to immigration to do the 90 day report too. Thanks.
  21. Ok so then there's no reasonable justification for not giving all of Venezuela American passports. What's the worst that could happen? Anyone who opposes this is xenophobic and racist. Before you ask, no there's nothing wrong with Venezuela. It's just like America except the weather is warmer.
  22. Fair enough I would say they integrated here far better than in the West, however I can't always tell who is Chinese here or not and how they view themselves. I do however see Thai people with Chinese shrines on a regular basis, people who have been here for hundreds of years probably. The question is, are they racist against Thai's and only marry other Thai-Chinese? Actually I know a man here from a Chinese family that fled communist China but I would never know he was Chinese, he only speaks Thai now but he's a first generation immigrant. Key is that he didn't have a Chinese community where he settled in Thailand.
  23. This is just a Chinese problem wherever they go. Chinese have been in America for over a hundred years yet they still only marry other Chinese, do business with other Chinese, rent to other Chinese and have "China town" in every city so they don't have to integrate and interact with the locals. Obviously this is how they're going to be as tourists too.
