  1. If you go through with it make a gofundme.com for your legal fund and I'll donate. 😂
  2. Well assets acquired after marriage are joint even in Thailand. That's how it's supposed to work on paper at least but I've never tested the legal system here.
  3. The entire point of legal marriage is that you lose right to hold title and all assets become joint so how did this happen to him? These stories always feel like they have holes.
  4. This is a country that requires 2 vertical feet of paper documents to be hand filled and signed in duplicate each year. They need us for then we need them.
  5. you're taking about Thai nationals and ones with big money. How many Thais don't pay tax and evade? I bet the number is shocking but not surprising. We foreigners don't know what goes on, we just show up to immigration with our stacks of paper and go off aloof until the next year. They're not going to treat us like Thai millionaires running underground businesses I'm sure of that much.
  6. I didn't file my TM30 for at LEAST 10 years (maybe my old land lady filed but I doubt it) but the other year out of the blue they decided they wanted it. What happened? I paid 1,600 baht fine and no mention was made that I broke the law for so many years. That's typical of Thailand in my experience.
  7. Instead of all this noodling and ranting about taxes THIS would be an interesting topic of discussion. So let's assume you're one of the guys not online and paying attention then 2025 rolls around and obviously you've not filed. Personally knowing how Thailand operates I'm incredulous this person would be targeted and penalized. If they're serious about this they will in my opinion notify us properly though immigration. Thailand is a country which struggles to enforce even common laws like traffic tickets. All my experience tells me unless you interact directly with an officer the laws hardly even exist. It's not like our countries where they send you a bill and when you don't pay it follow up with a court order. Not saying that can't happen but that's never been how the country functions and I don't think they're even capable of this even if it was in their nature to do so. I know people disagree, just my 2 cents.
  8. Very well but that still includes basically all of us. I bet 90% of people living here have been spending money earned/acquired in the current year (regardless of origin) and thus liable for taxation. The only thing this new law changes is that you no longer can deny it. If their plan is to use this as the beginning of a new expat auditing program then we'll be hearing about that in 2025. Personally I'd rather pay back taxes and fines than to rush out and try to preempt this by getting a tax ID and filing.
  9. Demographics are destiny. Hispanics vote 70/30 for democrats and they are the largest growing group in the US while the white population (the historic American nation) are declining year over year. These elections are just head counts racing towards the dissolution of the Republican party, at least one that represents the interest of white Americans. I'm not voting ever again until these structural issues are resolved at the cultural and family level simply because it does not matter.
  10. Apparently, if you've been spending money in Thailand which is earned in the current year you've be liable for taxation. Technically they could audit all of us anytime and request back taxes for 5,10,20 years. The real news will be when they start doing this. For all any of us know they could backtrack on this if they get enough blowback and you would have wasted time and money trying to comply with this "new" law.
  11. My thoughts exactly. The suspense was killing me.
  12. don't give them any ideas! Thailand: hub of fantasies.
  13. But you can't burden other people in your pursuit. That's the issue here.
  14. but do you really have the heart to deny him a chance at a better life?
  15. Who's that? Looks like a prime candidate for deportation.
  16. All those people need to be sent back including their native born children. It's mental what our governments are doing to their people.
  17. Something else is going on, Thailand doesn't have birth right citizenship. They give hill tribe some form of official ID but that's a special case.
  18. Because Thailand isn't stupid enough to take on dependents that provide no value? The so-called "migrant crisis" could be ended tomorrow by simply closing the borders and so this is what Thailand does.
  19. because she was probably trying to make the crossing before the train so she didn't have to wait. It's poor emotional control at the root of much of the bad driving.
  20. Live by the sword, die by the sword. I'll never understand why but Thai people routinely make risky choices driving which could easily get them killed. Either they can't control their emotions or think the risk is worth it.
  21. I'm shocked that photo only has one black person and the white man isn't drooling, very unusual for any American media.
  22. LOL easier said than done sir.
  23. This is a real thing but it seems mainly confined to young city girls. Find some women in her 40s from the provinces and she won't be like this. Avoid BKK and even fancy girls from Chiang Mai and probably other cities.
  24. I saw this too. Within a couple months went from a weakness in his arm to being sent back to the UK and now told he's going to die in 12 months. That's how fast it can all change. Not sure how long he was in Thailand but hopefully he had a good run. 64 is too young to die but not terribly uncommon either.
