This is why censorship needs to taken seriously. In an open forum people are allowed to descent and have alternate viewpoints to yours. You sound like a person who consumes a lot of mainstream media but not all of do and so we debate the issues. Lots of good comes out of free and open debate. Summarize this for me, so the debate with ceramic tiles is that while they block heat penetration they retain heat and will radiate heat during the night after the sun is down, therefore ventilation is extra important as compared to some lighter material. Is this correct?

I can think of restaurants that have low ceilings and metal roofs. Even if I like their food I simply can not eat there during most times of the year because it feels like an oven. If they spent a few thousand baht to put in some 1CM foam that would make just enough difference to survive with a fan on you.

The hill tribes cut the forests down for crops too. Hmong do that in Chiang Mai also but the forest department restricts them to their immediate area.

I simply don't see Thai people as having the spirit required to do the hard policing it would take. It's not just burning it's all the usual problems, stray dogs, littering on vacant land, dangerous driving etc... These aren't people that are willing to have ugly confrontations and do what would needs to be done. I have zero confidence this will ever change unless the people themselves decide they want to stop.

I say it's mostly the hill tribes who are foraging and hunting, and yes they extend into Myanmar and Laos. Just look at who's living around the areas which are burning. It's the same places every year around the same people.

This seems way off base to me. Ok maybe very old people or actual government officials in uniform are spared but everyone else is game on. The majority of the people splashing water are kids in the 9-20 age range and you've given them full permission for 3 days to run around in a pickup truck with a barrel of water. I long ago gave up trying to go out unless I'm 100% prepared to get wet and even so it's not the water that pisses me off it's the being targeted aspect and drunk people trying to get you to pull over so they can soak you and if they get you stopped they won't take no for answer. It's like hunting almost. The real reason I hate songkran is because I can't go outside for 3 days without a car and have to sit home and listen to retardation inducing music. It's horrible.
