  1. It's incredibly unethical what they're doing. If I had a real job I had to go to I would have been fired for missing so many days of work. I think I'm one of the minorities of people who got varying degrees of auto-immune disorder and inflammation and if this happens to you or family you can be sure the Thai government isn't going to compensate you.
  2. The J&J vaccine made me really sick for 1 week and I still haven't fully recovered 3 months later. Never again am I taking that <deleted> even if that means faking papers or leaving Thailand for good.
  3. Yeah I don't see why I can't do this in person since I'm already here. Thanks Joe!
  4. It's done by mail? Is that a requirement or can I come in person? I see the link says 7-10 days which will be on top of the wait for the registration. I had no idea this was so complicated here! ???? Certainly need to get more visa extensions since I didn't plan this well at all.
  5. I'm looking into how to register a marriage in Chiang Mai and from the district offices we've spoke to that actually allow marriages to foreign nationals they all requested we get a "passport guarantee" from the US embassy. I've never heard of this before but they were able to send me this example of another person (which I redacted because they send me this poor guys entire passport!). Does anyone know what this is or if you needed it with your marriage? We were told we need to go to embassy to get this document then go to the ministry of foreign affairs (once it's translated to Thai) and they will verify it. I already went to the embassy to get an affidavit of marriage status and they didn't mention anything about this document, which would have been helpful . \\
  6. Car accidents are an act of God in Thailand. Nothing can be done so we must brace for impact.
  7. yes basically. Just taking GPS locations and probably sending them to big brother HQ.
  8. When I arrived in Phuket I opened the app for them (like I did 3 times during all my connecting flights) and they said "we use this one" and told me to install it right then and there. Why? I have no idea. Does that mean Thailand Plus is obsolete already?
  9. The COE required Thailand Plus so I think that's that important one. MorChana may have been something for Phuket only.
  10. Yes I could turn them off of course but I'm worried I'll get in trouble. ???? I haven't heard of any reports about tourists getting deported for tampering with the app but who knows. Just checked now and MorChana has used 57% of the battery since the most recent charge!!! Why are there 2 of these anyways? The COE required Thailand plus and Phuket made me install MorChana right in the airport. Maybe I can delete that since I'm not in Phuket anymore?
  11. Since I arrived in Phuket I have both of these tracking apps installed on my phone which account for a significant percent of my battery usage (30+%) as I don't use my phone often. Upon entry to Phuket they said "we don't use Thailand Plus" and told me to install MorChana, so now I have both. Seriously how long do they expect us to have these things installed? All of CM is rife with COVID and I'm in the same places as everyone else making the information from the app totally useless.
  12. They can override the banks rules? Getting the letter from immigration seems easy enough but we'll see.
  13. So the update today is that I called Kasikorn in Mae Jo Chiang Mai and they said they won't open accounts unless you have a work permit and Bangkok Bank said you can if immigration gives you a form to complete (not sure if you need to actually be married before getting the form or it can be done in advance).
  14. I was in the US for 12 months and just got back recently. I'm shocked to see the Thais are stuck exactly where they were when I left. Masks everywhere, spraying hands etc... but maybe it makes sense to see Thailand not keeping up with the rest of the world as that's the usual state of things anyways. There's a very real concern that COVID has broken these peoples brains and it will become folk lore like ghosts or magic amulets. God save us.
  15. We need to reestablish the patriarchy in The West. Marriage is mainly for women (and children) so that means they owe us something of equal or greater value in return.
  16. If they do that then it's safe to assume it's their intention to get rid of us. Maybe this COVID crisis was just the best opportunity they had to implement their plans.
  17. That's good to know, thank you. I was going to open the bank account before interacting with immigration but maybe I should wait until I get my extension at the end of November.
  18. I'm in Chiang Mai. It's crazy they want us to deposit money in a Thai bank account but the banks themselves are not fully cooperating with this policy. It's a catch 22, you need the account to get the visa but you need the visa to get the account. ????
  19. Then I shall find out tomorrow if my tourist visa gets the job done. If not, where is said "agent" to be found?
  20. An "agent" to open a bank account?? I thought banks wanted our money. LOL
  21. @ubonjoe has been answering my questions for at least 10 years now. I know myself and others would like to toss him $5 bucks every so often to buy a beer or coffee.
  22. I actually knew that but I got confused! SETV, METV, STV etc... ????
  23. Darn, when did that start? I applied for my visa in September and the Washington DC didn't appear to have them (discontinued for COVID). I should have done the SETV but it looked like a lots of hurdles. ???? So you can apply for the "extension visit" in-country? That's what I wanted to know, thanks. That plus a 30-day extension will certainly give me enough time to arrange everything. Another thread I just read said Kasikorn may open accounts for foreigners so I'll try them. As a personal aside Joe should set up a https://www.buymeacoffee.com/ link in his forum signature. ????
