  1. can't the developer legally issue leases on the land they own?
  2. Can someone explain this? Why must the land be degraded? Did the land office issue illegal deeds which don't comply with the regulations?
  3. Why does everyone care about Thaksin anyways? It's been so long I forgot the details. He was corrupt? Yeah so are all officials in Thailand it seems. I don't really know why we should care at this point. I will admit though his square shaped skull kind of irks me but I'll survive.
  4. Thailand has an extremely large peasant class and those are the people most prone to short term thinking and getting scammed. I agree debt and gambling are serious problems that affect Thailand. Hating on them is pointless and cruel though, they need serious help. Yes I know many Thai people in general are affected by this too so it's extends in to the middle classes also.
  5. Which country has more open race baiting on the news than the US? Do other countries put the race of perpetrators in the headlines and intentional flair up tensions? I think the US is pretty unique here but anyone is welcome to give other examples.
  6. No I'm fine with "farang" and some racial slurs if it's in good fun Context helps put things in perspective? Farang is a not a racial slur exactly but it's kind of low class and informal so it was noteworthy a national news station used it on YouTube. For anyone who speaks a little Thai you may notice officials and TV presenters do use the proper word for "foreigner" and don't call all white people Farang.
  7. Again to be clear, I'm not offended. I don't care if people call me Farang or use some slurs here and there. I'm saying I THINK this may have been a story meant to inflame tensions, because news media loves doing this if it means getting more clicks.
  8. To be clear here I'm not saying this is a disaster and we should be panicking, I'm just reporting on something which may be of interest because it's following a trend which just started. If I Thai people around the country and are saying to each other "hear about that kid that got killed by the Farang?" thanks to that news story it doesn't do me any favors. The best policy is to not mention race unless it's strictly relevant to the case. America is the best example of this where a news story is presented with the race in the headline and then the race riots follow (remember BLM?).
  9. Look at this mess of trash I bike past often. You don't see it but they dump construction debris too and there's even a toilet in there. Mountain people are horrible with littering .The common person in Chiang Mai is not so bad though.
  10. Here's the text I'm referring to. The news presenter at first does say the word "foreigner" not Farang so this may have just been the social media people doing this and not heard by the bulk of the people on the TV.
  11. As an aside on the "farang" word. Most commonly they do in fact use the more technical word for foreigner so saying "farang" has a different implied tone to it I think. They may have been saying that too but used the word farang in the thumbnail and the #farang hashtag.
  12. Negro was a commonly used term up until the 60s. It's like Gringo with the Mexicans. I think it's still pretty similar. Personally I'm ok with it but that all depends on how it's being used. That hit and run was nothing remarkable so it was noteworthy they put the Farang part so front and center. I agree and rightfully so. Many areas of Thailand have been ruined by mass tourism so I expect some blowback.
  13. Ok it's in Thai so it's easy to miss but the title has the word Farang and there is a #Farang hashtag in the YouTube video also. I should have put this in the original post but it would be something like "Negro man hits and kills white women's son. #Negros" in an American context. It's pretty shocking for a national news channel if you ask me.
  14. Sure but this is going to upset lots of people and we have to go in to public with strangers. The American equivalent of this news story would be something like: "Negro man hits and kills white women's son. #Negros" That's literally what this national news channel did. It's pretty crazy actually if you can wrap your head around it. That's going to inflame tensions if you ask me.
  15. The German man seems guilty to me but there's very little information to go on. The news channel seems to be inflaming tensions by reporting this story at all. Their video is not complete and it's totally unremarkable compared to the endless other traffic fatalities they post. For example these in the last couple days. They have this one on video. Killed two people. Drunk. This guy didn't die but it's all on camera. Hit an old man trying to cross the road at a designated crossing.
  16. There was no reason at all to bring up that story, the only thing remarkable about it was that it was a non-Thai involved. The crying story of the mom at the beginning shows they're trying to stir up emotions. It's easy to see how this could impact the rest of the expats if it keeps going this way.
  17. Farang hit and run kills this women's son. Looks like he's 100% to blame but notice how they use the #Farang hashtag and highlight the fact it was a foreigner. ThaiRath TV has endless stories like this (the other day a drunk kid hit 4 cyclists killing 2 of them) but they don't put up the photo like this ever. Reminds me of Travon Martin, Americans will know. It's not looking like a good time be a Farang in Thailand!
  18. There were a few incidents in close proximity. Not aware of this being a pattern though so why did the OP bring it up? Does OP have one of these tattoos? Seems like one of those guys. If he does that would help explain his attack on Farangdom in Thailand.
  19. If you were born yesterday you may believe this. At best you can call him a "New Australian", meaning literally any person from wherever that happens to get a piece of government paper with their name on it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Australia_policy
  20. Isn't he just providing a much needed service?
  21. oh no the presenter is getting up on his high horse no doubt in part because of the Swiss guy. At least Thai people haven't been brainwashed with this "there's only race, the human race" BS and recognize this guy isn't the same as your typical Aussie farang. We have so many punks like this guy in America and if they start traveling to Thailand in numbers we're all screwed.
  22. Of course he's Australian. Australia is a nation of immigrants don't you know? Welcome to the party pal. Now you know what it feels like to be an American. 😂
  23. Likely he would be doing the shooting himself.
