Hi I am interested in views as whether you should have the front dic brake calipers machined when changing the dic pads if they are not damaged or scored. I am not worried about the cost but note it’s seems to be part of Ford’s scheduleh

UK Pensioners in Thailand Face New Scrutiny Over Pension Fraud
StevieAus replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The statement in your first paragraph is incorrect, I think you are confusing the changes introduced several years ago requiring the applicant to have resided continuously in Australia for a period of two years prior to making the application or residing continuously for two years after receiving the pension. For what it’s worth I know of two Australians who didn’t meet the above requirement and still receive the pension -
Shocking cruelty: Child abuse claims haunt Chiang Mai orphanage
StevieAus replied to snoop1130's topic in Chiang Mai News
Well it would seem there is a similar problem in other countries if you read the report handed down in New Zealand in recent days dealing with the neglect and abuse of individuals in institutional care many of the organisations run by the churches. A similar situation came to light in Australia several years ago after a far reaching enquiry again the worst offenders were the religious organisations The problem is nobody wants orphans, disabled people etc and it’s costly to look after them so the governments are happy to farm it out. -
Thai Electric Cables Mostly Fail Global Safety Standards
StevieAus replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
There is no shortage of places who supply electrical cables with the earth wire HomePro is more for the DIY person their plumbing supplies are the same. -
I live 150kms north of Chiang Mai and it certainly can get cold more so in the hills I remember a few of years ago it didn’t get beyond 13 o C. For about five days. I am from Sydney and to me that is cold.

I think you are spot on with your comments, about a year ago a tree directly outside our house was struck by lightening, this resulted in the power board and some other component in one of our two washing machines being rendered useless. The laundry is outside and about twenty metres away from the tree neither were in use but both plugged in.

Foreign Tour Operators Flood Phuket, Taking Jobs from Locals
StevieAus replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Don't they need a work permit to sell them? -
If he is not seeking medical advice what is he seeking? A blocked nose and sprays don't work sounds like a problem to me.

Having today just returned from Sydney and looking at prices it would be a pretty low standard of living
-
I am in Sydney at the moment and yes the grocery stores are well stocked but whilst there is plenty of healthy yummy food it is far from cheap the prices are eye watering. On top of that Utility costs, transport, especially taxis, government charges and don't even contemplate a Thai massage. To be fair wine is considerably cheaper than Thailand and today I bought a Braun shaver today at a 45 percent discount. Glad to be going home to Thailand. PS I don't live on a Aus government pension.

What about Bovril in the UK Dame stuff but not for me however nutritious
-
With all due respect why would you seek medical advice on this site? You don't state where you live but in Chiang Mai you can see a specialist for about 600 baht consultation fee at Chiang Mai Ram and cheaper if you go to a Government Hospital. Surely your health is worth that amount?
-
I don’t know where you buy your cheap healthy yummy food at good prices. I am in Sydney at the moment and haven’t been back for several years, I was warned about the costs but find the prices eye watering. On top of that the utility costs, public transport, taxis etc and don’t even think about a Thai massage. To be fair the wine is cheap compared with Thailand and I have been giving the NZ Sav Blanc a hammering. Today I bought Braun shaver in a sale at 45% discount but the rest no comparison.

If you think Thailand isn't value for money try visiting Europe and the UK where I was earlier this year or Sydney my home city where I am visiting at the moment. Costs are eye watering. It's not compulsory to live in Thailand so don't visit I will be happy to return.

Thailand Delays Automated Entry System for Foreign Tourists
StevieAus replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Perhaps they should speak to their friends in Malaysia where they have a very efficient system. We went through KL earlier this week, the entry pass was easy and quick to download and install and straight through the gates. Unfortunately being Thailand they don't need help from outside. -

Bank account for a child in Thailand
StevieAus replied to StephenD's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
We have an eight year old daughter she has had an account with the Bangkok Bank for a few years I think if you want to make a withdrawal it has to be carried out by an adult. -
Don’t kill the golden goose! Tax reforms may drive away expats
StevieAus replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
You are correct most countries have legislation preventing the disclosure of information. I rightly have to go through a rigorous check list if I ring my pension fund in Australia. I rang my Aus bank recently and was on speaker they heard my wife and said she had to leave the room while they spoke to me. That's why the income method for the retirement extension stopped most countries including Australia wouldn't disclose the information for Thai Immigration -

Why not enquire at Chiang Mai Ram I had seven operations carried out on my leg and shoulder after falling of a ladder. They have Orthopedic Specialists for each area of the body.
