  1. How is this "confrontational"? "has anyone done a visa exempt/tourist visa combo recently?"
  2. I asked a perfectly reasonable question about others recently experience. As said this was often done a few years ago. I think there are some pretty dim decks who haven't even understood the question or answered it. I think it is likely that what you say might happen which is why I asked the question . I there is anyone who has personal experience of this, I would like to know. All I'm getting is assumption and vitriol from people who have never tried it.
  3. My 60 day clock would then have started started clicking down. On re-entry I only would only have so many days left. If I go in first on visa exempt my 60 days start on my second entry. The question was has anyone done this recently...it used to be quite common. Calling something ridiculous is not solid advice.
  4. You are so out of touch it is impossible to discuss anything with you. Just try and find one =reference tht says geckos are "domesticated" So following your logic, spiders are domesticated, mosquitoes are domesticated snakes are domesticated, birds are domesticated termites are domesticated - you'd make a great farmer!
  5. You really haven't a clue - have you? "deep into the wild jungle and wild animals go into domesticated areas" do you seriously think the environment and ecosystems are divided like that? Are you even aware of what this thread is about - or do you think geckos are "domesticated"? I doubt is you even know what domesticated means.
  6. Always rely on you fora totally inane and inaccurate comment.
  7. Nothing natural about domesticated cats killing wildlife. In some parts of the planet their disruption of "nature" has resulted in the extinction of several species. They are an unnatural predator that disrupts the balance nature put there by people who can't see further than their own lap.
  8. I certainly don't regard Geckos as a "problem" - nor Tokays. If they are disappearing it may not be just down to predators - they are predators too and if their prey has diminished so will their population. If someone is using an insecticide nearby, that could seriously affect their own food supply.
  9. So after all your prevarication and bluster, you now think it;s ridiculous - but I'll bet you can't demonstrate why. At least some others had a clue.
  10. THat's as near to an answer as I can get which is wh=y I asked if anyone had experience of this.
  11. I first drove in 1994 and have certainly over the years have covered more miles than you - but this is yet another problem of foreigners who drive in Thailand, they think because they have done it for a long time, they think it automatically it qualifies them to talk about road safety yet they never really understand what that really is.. They make the mistake of thinking they have experience when in reality it is just an accumulation of bad habits. In terms of road safety one needs to approach it with critical thinking based on evidence rather than an accumulation of biases and prejudices. The trick is to use sceptically and analysis to get a reasoned answer rather than cynicism to hide one’s ignorance and reinforce prejudices.
  12. doesn't suit - you realise I'm being hypothetical?
  13. convenience of 60 days clear on a tourist visa
  14. No - the question I'm asking is will they let you in on a visa exempt if you have a tourist visa in your passport. I suppose you could go out side and apply in Laos or somewhere. But if they let you in visa exempt, you could stay for just 3 das (example) and then re-enter a week or so later and start your 60 days on a tourist visa. If you use your tourist visa on the first entry, you lose it after 3 days and either have to get another or limit your stay to 30 days visa exempt.
  15. the validity starts on issue - the period starts on entry.
  16. About 15/20 years ago - so no e-visas the point being you would present at immigration with a tourist visa in your passport and explain you were only staying for. few days and wanted "visa exempt" entry as you would be returning within the validity period to use your tourist visa for the full period (60 days) I see, are you thinking that if it is an e-visa, it wouldn't be in my passport so I could just get a visa exempt stamp?
  17. How about if your tourist visa validity doesn't start until after your visa exempt entry. THe advantage would be, you could stay in the Kingdom for a short period without losing your tourist visa and activate it when you re-enter. getting a full 60 days.
  18. If I have both a valid tourist visa and am eligible for a visa-exempt entry, can I use the visa-exempt entry first, then, once my visa-exempt entry period expires, can I then use my tourist visa to stay in Thailand for a longer up to 60 day duration? THis used to be common practice but I don't know if it is done anymore..
  19. "concentrate and learn to adapt" - is probably the key for foeigners - who think everyone should drive like they do at home." Single factors don't add up in road safety - it is a combination that leads to "normal" human error. Things like tests and side of the road you drive have minimal effect on their own. i have habitually driven in countries that drive on either side and it never presents a real problem . I also drive LHD and RHD vehicles. adapting is fast and easy for most - if they think about it then they probably have other driving problems too. As for tests, most of the older posters on this thread (and others) took tests that re way less demanding than the Thai current tet. A test is good to start you off, but within months you are on your own to form your own bad driving habits - which you then claim are "experience"
  20. According to the Thai government's Department of Land Transport, sales of crash helmets in Thailand increased by 15% in 2022 compared to 2021. The increase in wearing a quality appears to be over the last few years as helmets re now and object of desire amongst some M/C users. helmets can reduce the risk of death by up to 37% for riders and 41% for passengers. Helmets can also reduce the risk of head injury by 69%., but they are not a complete solution - in fact they are only marginally significant
  21. Sorry, didn't you understand?
  22. Australia has never done vey well in the road safety league and sadly the crash rates in Australia appear to be on the up again.
  23. Just a few racist cliches as a substitute for not understanding how to drive in Thailand.
  24. one thing for sure, the Thai police don't target foreigners - there is no evidence to support that - there is a lot of evidence though that suggsts that foreigners are over sensitive and see victimisation everywhere.
