  1. There is often zero logic when it comes to bureaucracy. You could perhaps suggest that the logic comes from them wanting you to jump through these hoops to make you feel unwelcome, to make themselves appear more efficient, cautious, hard working, etc., or to make the Thai citizens believe they are doing a good job and keep an eye on dangerous foreigners.
  2. Was it their first day on the job? Politicians only answer the questions they want to answer.
  3. You've never seen a Thai man with an obese girlfriend and wondered why he is with her when there are so many slim women in Thailand?
  4. I've had similar experiences, so it's interesting to hear this. Agreed, they seem to take little interest in girls, generally. It actually made me pause and wonder "if Thai men are these sex hungry serial cheaters, why do they not exhibit this in adolescence?" You never seem to detect that they are checking out girls or trying to flirt with them. Even the very confident ones. Although they do often have relationships. Again, I found the same. Girls can describe their hobby as "looking at cute guys" and you might ask them what they are doing and they will say that they are watching a handsome boy. I'm curious, though, if this is totally sexual or more an aesthetic thing. I wonder, if they were looking at boys as we might think that boys look at girls (with sexual desire), if that would be tolerated, especially once they are in a relationship? I find it very interesting, as it is obviously quite opposite to what we experience in the West. Interesting that machismo would lead to men showing less interest in women. I believe it's very different in somewhere like the Philippines.
  5. You make it sound quite one sided. Are you sure that Thai women don't have similar utilitarian ideas about relationships?
  6. A lot of Thais pair up in school or university. Perhaps they were smoking hot when they were 18-21 but the years haven't been kind to them. Also echo the idea that marriage is seen as much more of a mutually beneficial arrangement outside of the West, with men being allowed to roam as long as they keep up the cash flow. I think a lot of guys know that incredibly beautiful/sexy women can also be a lot of trouble sometimes. Not only with the personality that often comes with it, but satisfaction in the relationship, attention from other men and temptation to monkey branch. I would imagine the culture of allowing the man to cheat probably affects the physical appearance criteria as well. One girl for family, other choices for sex. Wouldn't be my personal choice, but you can see the logic.
  7. Most women enter into a committed relationship with someone because they provide for them or increase their social standing. They also try to maximise this by finding the person who will allow the highest provision or increase in social standing that they can secure. It's likely that native women seek out foreign men because A, they are far richer and have much higher status than the local men within their reach, or B, local men are not interested in them at all so none are in their reach.
  8. OK. Change it to "once the students' families have all had the opportunity to be vaccinated".
  9. This is the problem. Suppose they get a school full of kids vaccinated and back to school in the next couple of months. Then someone brings covid to school and spreads it to dozens of students unnoticed. They may not have symptoms and it may not show up for a week or two. How many parents or grandparents will have been infected by the time the outbreak shows up on a test somewhere? And how many of those vulnerable people will have been vaccinated?
  10. Their plan should be "schools can reopen once the students' families have been vaccinated as the risk to the students is low while the risk to their families is high".
  11. Definitely some anti-foreigner bias, as I pointed out. Don't be so precious, lol. People will sometimes disagree with you in life.
  12. Is chiding foreigners really necessary here? It sounds like a Thai can lose their minds over nothing, so mentioning foreigners carrying on like whatever is kind of redundant, unless you wanted to have a dig at them because the article makes Thais look bad? Again, putting the onus on the foreigner to never "upset" a Thai or "look at them the wrong way", when it seems that either of these things could be done completely unintentionally with any slight being in the mind of the Thai. Sounds like you want to make the foreigner to blame no matter what the actual circumstances are.
  13. You thought I was being serious about giving out their full name and address?
  14. Ah, I appear to have gotten my times confused. I imagined that it meant yesterday as in last night. I realise now that it obviously meant Saturday night/Sunday morning period. Sorry about that.
  15. The idea is that the protestors leave when the police use these methods to disperse them. That's the whole point. You aren't going to disperse a huge crowd of protestors who refuse to leave without some force.
  16. They posted at 1:30am, did you expect them to stay awake all through the night waiting to see who comments? Or should they set their alarm to wake up early in case you demand they reply? Some people do have a life. (Not me, but some do.) Perhaps they posted, went to bed, got up, went to work or pursued other interesting endeavors. Doesn't seem like an indication of "obvious troll" to me.
  17. Why don't they tell us their full name and address? If this is true, they should have no problem with that. Otherwise they must be lying. Nowt to hide = nowt to fear!
  18. What do you call people who throw improvised explosive devices at police? Doesn't justify hitting someone with a car, but we should probably talk about what both sides are doing if we're going to start labelling people as terrorists.
  19. I'm puzzled as to how they can consider vaccinating children if their parents aren't all vaccinated.
  20. That's exactly the point I was replying to. Natural isn't always best for society.
  21. Nope. Rape, murder, pedophilia, all perfectly "natural", but clearly not OK. Next?
  22. What kind of a house can you get for that? That would buy you a nice house in a nice location in the UK. Is it some sort of mansion?
