  1. You are being unreasonable and giving up way too early. Either you want the book or you don't.

Took me 2 months and I spent almost 40,000 baht including a flight jumping through hoops before I finally got my yellow book. Some of these guys love to feel like they are in power.

You can either quit, or keep giving them what they want. And yes, I asked about shortcuts...none were available (I had a well connected Thai acquaintance make the attempt) and there was no facilitation fee was paid when the book was finally issued. Many just don't feel farangs deserve this document, no matter what the law says. If you are in a district like that, you either move to a new district or just struggle through it.

You need to get the decree translated from Portuguese into English, stamped by the Brazillian Embassy, and then get the English translated into Thai and get that certified at the MFA.

It's up to you whether to continue, but no point in complaining about it.

Okay, thanks for your honest reply, I do feel that you are correct and will probably end up going that route despite saying I've given up.

I know others have had a much easier route and some have had it harder, I would like to know if mine is typical and what others would do in my situation.
  2. Have recently bought a house and decided I wanted a yellow book and possibly the pink id to follow. Gf has blue book for house.

NOTE: I know the ongoing discussions about whether a yellow book is worth the effort or not but I chose pursue one anyway.

My Amphur ( Bang Pa -in, Ayutthaya ) requested a certified translation of my passport and birth certificate.

I obliged with a visit to British Embassy for copy of passport and then to MFA for translation and certification ( just translation for birth certificate was okay )

Back to Amphur, head man there gave us ( me and gf ) a grilling about living with farangs and hinted that all farangs use drugs regularly ( I only found this out when gf related after ).

Basically told us to call back in 2 weeks, called back yesterday, now he wants to see my Decree Nisi, problem being it's in England and is in Portuguese ( Brazilian ) !!

    So, I've given up !!

    Is he being unreasonable ?

Am I giving up too easily ?

Problem is the cost of translation and certification etc will be high and I feel that he may just invent another hurdle afterwards .

    Anybody had similar?

    Any suggestions ?

  3. Maybe this river has finally run its course !!

Pee DL seems to be adapting to his new life of being pampered by his sister !! ?

The rest of us will continue on our merry ( or miserable ) ways and maybe will reappear in a thread of a similar vein in the near future !

I certainly hope my future will be more on the

merry side as I'm only just starting my journey.

It only remains for Ody to drop us a line to say all is well and we can have closure.

  4. Am gonna need a sparky to fit another couple of outlets so I'll shop around to find someone recommended locally and get him to fit the RCD ( 2800 baht !!, I know I know you can't put a price on safety ), change the underrated black cables.

I'll also get him to try and explain the grounding situation to me and if any doubts " I'll be back ".

In the meantime, thanks for all the help.

  5. One of my pet hates of Thailand, sticky labels, definitely not user friendly.
There is a product available but unfortunately I have run out and don't recall the name - but the residue left behind is nearly as bad as the label. Seems you can't win.

Yeah, I'm definitely ocd about sticky labels.
These are a real pain, I try to ease off the top paper layer gently but it's stuck like sh1t to a blanket, so it's a wet sponge and a wallpaper scraper before I even get down to the sticky/gluey bit !!

On the other hand though when the sticky labels come off in one piece with no sticky residue it does give a certain amount of satisfaction !! [emoji4]
  6. I remembered I had a can of Sonax ( similar to WD40 ), gave that a go........nothing, not a sausage, nada !!

Girded my loins ( what ? ) grabbed the gf's nail varnish remover and cotton pads and.......... Hey Presto !!

That's done the trick, and at 15 baht a bottle no complaints from me.

  7. I was going to recommend Goo Gone, but this is Thailand, so it may not be available.

Here's a thread on TVF opened up long ago that may be of interest:

Thanks for that, plenty of ideas there, I'll leave the mayonnaise till last resort !! [emoji51]
  8. I have these UPVC doors with a sticky label on each (7 of them) and the problem is that these labels have been on for 2 years according to date on label.

The problem is that when I try to remove them they will not come off easily, even peeling really slowly still doesn't work, and they leave this residue ( see 2nd photo ).

I've tried an old scotchbrite pad and some mild detergent on the back of one door but still no joy.

Any ideas ?, suggestions ?, rude remarks ?

  9. Nobody mentioned those gifted musicians and wholly underrated band 10cc yet? Much more of a studio band due to the complexity of their music but they did pump out some memorable tunes.

Who did not jiggle around in an embarrassing manner to "rubber bullets"?

if truth be known my first ever bass solo was derived from "don't feel the benefit"

Yes 10cc !! A very much underrated band.

    Dreadlocks holiday.
    Art for arts sake.
    I'm Mandy fly me.
And who could forget The Wall Street shuffle !!

Of course I'm not in love was their biggest hit but for me it was played to death and god only knows how many pimply youths sat crying in their beer when it came on the jukebox reminiscing about some lost love or simply crying over their forgetfulness in buying some " jonny's " from the pub toilet before that one night stand 9 months previously.

( the last paragraph is only hypothetical, not based on myself.........honest guv )

  10. Am gonna get round to these electrical issues........honest !!
Have got the new house blues right now, house is full of boxes, am constantly moving stuff around to make room, the garden has taken over the land, the rubbish has not been collected ( and it's a lot !! ) and my gf's collection of shoes and bags is getting on my nerves [emoji35]( how many bags does a person need ?? )
    Bear with me.

  11. so you saw David Coverdale singing, I presume it was the Burn tour and my favourite purple album but Glen Hughes the bass player wiped the floor with Coverdale and purple wanted Glen just to sing and  not sing/play bass. very jealous mate .....

Actually it was Gillan/Glover ! so must have been 73' or maybe earlier, will have to ask my brother, although like me he probably has vague recollections about that era ( he would have been around 17/18 at the time ).

I must admit to being sorely disappointed when Gillan and Glover left and found it hard to adapt to Coverdale/Hughes but realised later that they were more than worthy replacements.

Have you heard Glenn's new album , Resonate ?

  12. Lol you stupid **** I was 20 yrs later but wish I had been nearly 30 yrs earlier in the Filmore East for The Allman Brothers live recording and for your information I ******* hated Frampton comes alive. My favourite live album is UFO Strangers in the Night and please don't anyone quote Thin Lizzy Live & Dangerous as it was re-recorded in the studio as all of them were out of it and even their producer Tony Visconti slags it off although Brian Robertson in his hard man way denies his parts were overdubbed.

A very close second is Free Alive Vol1 (they never made a vol2) and just youtube Free at the Isle of Wight festival, absolutely awesome but I was only 9 at the time although I did see ACDC on their first tour of the UK in 1975 when I was 14 in Swansea and they were ******* brilliant and the stickers and badges I had from the Lock up your Daughters summer tour would be worth money now. About 60 people in Swansea Brangwyn Hall, it was their 3rd album Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap and I never saw them again with Bon Scott.

And to freak you guys out I saw Tangerine Dream in Cardiff Capitol in 1974, the Stratosfear tour - I wish I could put these memories to video files. I was a dj in a HM nightclub and watched the likes of Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Saxon, Girlschool and a few others before they were big and a special mention for ex Thin Lizzy guitarist Eric Bell, what a gent.

Free Alive !, got to agree with you there , great album.
While we're on the subject, The Who - Live at Leeds and Deep Purple - Made in Japan take some beating IMO.
Saw Deep Purple at St George's Hall Bradford back in the day ,73 or 74 , I was 12 or 13, got to thank my older brother for that !!

Can't beat a bit of healthy reminiscing !!
The 70's for me, from age 9 to 18 , best years of our lives [emoji4]
