    Hi all,

Im a newby to doing the TM30 so I wonder could some of you advice please ?

Arriving in Thailand soon and just took out a 1 year rental contract on condo in Pattaya as I hope to have two or 3 extended stays this year from UK. The contract has all my details and copy of passport on it and same for the condo owner.

If I take this to Jomtien immigration along with my passport would this be all the documentation I would need to do the TM30 ? (fyi-Arriving on 30day visa exemption)

Sorry if I seem bit naive but always stayed in hotels/guest houses in the past and they took care of it. I do see from the forum that its the Condo owners responsibility but they will be in China for the next 4 weeks and I wanted to get used to the Jomtien immigration experience for myself for future visits (good or bad 😆

Thanks all for taking the time to read my ramblings and any replies welcomed

The owner of the condo should be doing the TM30 not the tenant, the same as hotel owners do.

There are generic versions as I advised previously.

    Brim Mac

    Brinidin

Whether you can find it is another matter.

If you can't get hold of your doctor at Jomtien, you might  try at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital.

Thanks Sheryl but neither are available in the local/hospital pharmacies nor online, I have searched high and low, I keep being directed towards ones with Timolol (beta blocker) but they reduced my BP and heart rate significantly over a period of a couple of months.

TBH most of the pharmacies haven’t been very helpful making no attempt to try and check what’s available and recommending I speak with my doctor.

There is one on Pattaya Klang who have been very helpful, they did suggest an alternative but it was 0.2% rather than Alphagan P which is 0.15%.

Bit confused at this.  If it's an International Hospital Consultant you are dealing with, I find it incomprehensible that the hospital cannot supply what you need.  They have processes to import meds that are maybe rare here, not unavailable locally, or generally in Thailand. Why do they offer you an alternative instead of sourcing the one you actually need?  I know that is the case for Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, for, example,  cancer drugs,  so I don't know why you are having such an issue.  I hope that you can sort it out quickly,  as reliable and regular meds for your condition are vital if you are to arrest the condition.  Good luck on Thursday

I am dealing with Bangkok/Pattaya Jomtien Hospital, they don’t have alternatives in stock, the estimated delivery of Alphagan P is unknown. I was advised by the hospital pharmacy that the alternative eye drops would be available elsewhere, I tried numerous pharmacies local and online and they weren’t available.

The frustrating part is dealing with hospital which is via email and the persons receiving the emails have no idea what I am requesting.

Thanks for the good luck for Thursday, one thing for sure I will only be paying for the consultation not the usual add ons of BP, Temp check and nursing services etc.

In Thailand, you can always, but always,  find a pharmacist who will sell you prescription meds over the counter, without a prescription. It has always been thus here.

We are going a bit off topic, my topic is about finding a pharmacy who can supply me with Alphagan P eyedrops, currently none available, they are imported and there isn’t a generic version as far as I am aware, Pharmacists are reluctant to give me an alternative, there many which hasn’t been recommended by my doctor. What does surprise me is very few hold stocks of eyedrops for glaucoma, they have to order from a supplier usually from Bangkok.

i have been trying to see/contact my doctor but you can’t call him nor speak with his secretary, everything is by email. He has already recommended 2 neither of which are available, I have a consultation on Thursday to discuss an alternative medication.

Have you ever been to a Pattaya Pharmacy?

I ran out of prescription meds so googled it, took a screen shot to show at counter and was sold it immediately without any questions or even discussion

I've also Google doctored my own symptoms and got meds same way with no questions

What is a prescription drug in one country doesn’t mean to say it’s a prescription drug in other countries.

You would be surprised at what meds people take here without ever being properly diagnosed with a condition by a Specialist Consultant.  Self medication is rife here, hence so many people using a forum to ask questions about possible medical conditions that clearly need investigation by a doctor, in hospital.  I don't know if it's some twisted thinking to avoid medical bills, or some people just being as dumb as a brick, but it happens a lot.

In general Pharmacists just won’t sell you anything and everything just by telling them your symptoms, if they think you have a serious condition they will advise you to consult a doctor.

Euro Optics is not listed as an ophthalmologist by Google search so would not be asking them glaucoma treatment advise.  Glaucoma medication is very much what works for you is what you should use in my experience - and can take some time to refine.

Opticians are technicians who fit eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision-correcting, Optometrist examine, diagnose and treat patients eyes.Ophthalmologists are eye doctors who perform medical and surgical treatments for eye conditions

Euro Optics is listed as an Optometrist on Google I went there for an eye test for glasses. I was diagnosed with glaucoma at Bangkok Pattaya Hospitsl.

Medconsult does not levy additional charges for this. However, it is a one doctor place, a British GP, not opthalmologist so not really who can advise on what medication to take. If you are going to have to have a consultation anyhow, it would make more sense to have it with an ophthalmologist at Rutnin (eye hospital), if any place has the drops they will, and if the drops are truly off market now in Thailand the doctor could advise on alternatives. https://www.rutnin.com/en/home/

However if you are going all the way into Bangkok, you might like to first check at some of the larger pharmacies there e.g.

    • RungRote Pharmacy on Soi Onnut (about 75 meters in from Sukhumvit, on right hand side)
    • Siam Pharmacy on Ploenchit
    • Southeast Pharmacy on Sukhmvit between I think Sois 13-25 (you might be able to call them first to ask, 095 905 8829) or message them https://www.facebook.com/SEPharmacy/  as they speak English
    • Chulalongkorn Community Pharmacy (Opposite MBK, cross the footbridge to Siam Square)

Thanks for the info Sheryl but  I am not going to Bangkok, I use the Eye Doctor at Bangkok Pattaya/Jomtien Hospitals who I consult with for my glaucoma the same Doctor who did my cataracts a few month back.

i had an eye check with an Ophthalmologist at Euro Optics last week for new eyeware, I go on Monday to collect them, I will seek her advice.

I think it is not so easy anymore:

    From the website

If you are a patient with MedConsult,
We kindly request you to contact us so that we may assist you in verifying your prescription or identifying your previous prescription. If you are not currently registered as a patient, we warmly invite you to visit our clinics for a consultation with our doctors.

    Step-2

-Controlled Medicine: Advanced refill for 1 month.

-General Medicines: Advanced refill for 3 months.

Request a refill for your medication with MedConsult via our contact methods or in person at our clinic. The doctor will discuss the best option and provide an advanced repeat prescription.

    Step-3

Once your prescription is ready, you have the option to have it conveniently delivered to your home (available for General Medicine prescriptions only) or pick it up at Medconsult Clinic. And that’s it – with Our Refill Service, getting your repeat medication has never been easier! Chat with us for clear your question.

Me being cynical they want you to consult with a Doctor to generate income.

As  said I am going on Thursday, one thing for sure I am not going through the procedure of being weighed, BP checked etc and being charged for it. I will pay for the consultation though.

  11. 11 minutes ago, Sheryl said:

You do NOT need to see doctor in person for this, it can be handled on phone. Make sure they understand it is for refill of existing medication.

I am aware of that Sheryl but the lady on the phone was insistent, I explained it wasn’t a prescription drug, she said would contact the pharmacy and call me back, she hasn’t as yet.

i have managed to get an appointment for Thursday the 1st of February to discuss my medication.

  12. 4 minutes ago, connda said:

And I agree with Sheryl.  Talk with your entomologist about the pros and cons of different glaucoma treatment plans and drugs that fit your physiological profile.  Best of luck!

Unfortunately I can’t get to speak to him directly, appointment only and none available till mid February at Bangkok Pattaya, I will try for Thursday at Bangkok Jomtien as he is there.

  13. 40 minutes ago, Sheryl said:

That would have been Bimo Mac, not Bimo Max and it is another brand of same thing.

Which online sources have you tried? Did you ask Medisafe? (ask by generic name Brimonidine not brand name)

Can also ask Medconsult, they can usually get anything and will mail it but there is a 300 baht add on for the service   https://www.medconsultasia.com/pharmacy-refil-service/

Tried Medisafe, no stock, called Medconsult, waiting fora call back, I won’t hold my breath on that though as they said I would need to see a Doctor.

  14. 22 minutes ago, Sheryl said:

Alphagan-P is Brimonidine. Another brand (locally made) of this in Thailand is Brinidin.

Lanotan is a different drug than Alphagan-P. Do not change glaucoma drugs unless advised by your ophthalmologist. That said, latanaprost (brand names here: Lanotan and Prosdrop is generally the more effective treatment compared to brimonidine.

Unfortunately my Doctor has no available appointments till the 3rd week in February,  I went to Jomtien Pattaya Hospital where he works on a Thursday. I couldn’t get to see him face to face even after he explaining to the nurse that I required advice. He wrote  Bimo Max on a piece of paper, currently I can’t even source that in Pattaya or online.

I certainly wouldn’t change my eyedrops without advice, he prescribed one before which contained a beta blocker which gave me low blood pressure.

  15. Can you get insurance as it’s a modified conversion, a well known insurance brokers in Pattaya said no when I asked them.

First I like them both as they look fit and both handsome in their mature age

Secondly they do provide updates but yes your actually right 😁

Updates on what, not much changes in Pattaya apart from entertainment places opening and closing nought else.

I agree, and having "dipped in" to both the websites mentioned, subscribe to neither, however for newbies to Pattaya it gives them an idea of the place, as long as they realise that both sites are heavily influenced by the producers' opinions

Buzzin has 93k subscribers and Nick Dean 35k, I doubt very many of the subscribers ever visit Pattaya, Pattaya would be inundated with people.

For the best replacement lens, I had both eyes operated on for cataracts at Banphaeo Hospital in Chan Rd Bangkok for 25k each eye. While a very busy Eye And Cataract surgery department that really needs Thai speaking or a Thai with you, it is very organised. First time patients must go in person for an appointment and to register. This compared to Rutnin quote at 17Ok, Pattaya International at 70k per eye and others at higher than my final choice.

    Laser surgery ?

    Perfect. But at what cost?

Around ฿90000 which included follow up appointments and medication, Dr Sante Bangkok Jomtien. It depends on the lense which is fitted, my left eye required a more expensive lense. You can have lenses where you won’t need reading specs, more expensive but I was advised they were not for me because of my glaucoma.

Where was that, and did you have to stay overnight or was it done on an outpatient basis? It seems that government hospitals require you to spend a night in the hospital (in Vietnam 2 nights),while all private hospitals ,in Thailand and Vietnam, let you go home the same day. I am trying to find an exception.

I had 45 minute prep with eye drops to freeze my eye, the actual procedure took 15 minutes, I was allowed to leave after 15 minutes in the Recovery Romm, no more than a couple of hours at the hospital.
