Israel Hamas War the Widening Middle East Conflict
Evil Penevil replied to Social Media's topic in The War in Israel
You are totally correct. Lord Andrew Roberts and his crew have written the best available account of the Oct. 7 attacks. It is factual and unbiased and describes the circumstances under each of the 1,182 victims were killed. The report is certain to become the "go to" reference work on Oct. 7. I haven't read a single negative review on the report, but most of the mainstream press has ignored its publication. That's a shame, as the report deserves to be widely read as it refutes many of the false claims by Hamas supporters about the attacks. I have a hard time understanding the thought processes of anyone who sympathizes with Hamas and it Palestinian supporters, given the horrific chain of events on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8.. -
Quilty??? I doubt you'll find too many Tren de Aragua members making quilts or even sleeping under one. ... But aside from any relationship to quilts, suspected members of Tren de Aragua, or any other foreigner, can be deported from the U.S. without a criminal conviction in a U.S. court. No non-U.S.-citizen has a right to remain in the U.S., but millions have been granted permission to do so by the U.S. government. Without such permission, the government is free to deport them for no other reason than they are in the U.S. illegally. The situation becomes trickier when the government seeks to remove foreigners who have valid status in the U.S. Conviction of a crime is not necessary for the removal of a Green Card holder, but the government is required to have strong reason to believe the immigrant's continued presence would not be in the best interests of the U.S. In any case, the government is not required to publicly disclose the reason. If the information about membership in or association with Tren de Aragua came through a confidential informant or undercover operation, it's understandable the government would keep it secret.

Mahmoud Khalil also has a bunch of tough questions to answer that could not just make him look foolish but guilty as well. If he obtained or has claimed Algerian citizenship fraudulently, that is prima facie grounds for revoking his green card. Question abound about his participation in the Master' s Program at Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs. His academic background was light years short of the usual requirements for admission to an elite institution like SIPA. Did Columbia waive the requirements for him? If so, why so? In what specific program was he enrolled? What courses did he take and what grades did he get? Khalil seems to have obtained his Green Card faster than his normal. His application would be based on his marriage to Noor Abdalla, a U.S. citizen. The Reuters interview with Abdalla ( https://www.reuters.com/world/us/wife-arrested-columbia-student-says-she-was-naive-believe-he-was-secure-2025-03-12/) says they were married in 2023 and he got his Green Card in 2024. Where and when were they married? When did they apply for his Green Card? When was it granted? In this Reuters' photo, Abdalla is holding a picture taken on their wedding day. Where and when was the wedding photo taken? Where and when was this photo taken? Second and third pics from https://www.es.amnesty.org/actua/acciones/eeuu-mahmoud-khalil-mar25/ Another huge question is to what degree he was a leader of Columbia University Apartheid Divest. The rhetoric on the CUAD SubStack is totally pro-Hamas and blatantly antisemitic. The posts use the terminology of Hamas and seem to have been written by someone who's not a native speaker of English. https://cuapartheiddivest.substack.com/ Moreover, members of CUAD passed out official Hamas pamphlets at the recent takeover of a building at Barnard College where Khalil was present. White House Press Secretary Karroline Leavitt said Khalil distributed the pamphlets. Many questions, but few answers so far.

That raises an interesting question- Where would Mahmoud Khalil be sent if he were deported from the U.S. ? He is a citizen of Algeria, but no one has yet explained how and when he got Algerian citizenship. All the reports I've read have said he was born and raised in Syria, then went to Lebanon for his university education and after that worked in Syria and Lebanon until he went to the U.S. What's his connection to Algeria? Syrian law doesn't allow Palestinians to become citizens of Syria except in very rare cases. Presumably he would be entitled to Palestinian citizenship because his parents were Palestinians, but there's no indication he has ever been to Palestine or made any attempt to formalize citizenship there. Would Algeria take him? If Algeria refused, where would he be sent?

A difference between free speech and persecuting Jews
Evil Penevil replied to Social Media's topic in World News
The arrest and possible removal of Mahmoud Khalil from the U.S. isn't a free speech issue. He's been taken into custody because he violated the terms under which all foreigners are granted permanent resident (Green Card) status in the U.S. Khalil is an open supporter of a designated terrorist organization, Hamas, who took part in illegal activities at Columbia University. He served as a spokesman for Columbia University Apartheid Divest, an umbrella group which has directed much of the upheaval at Columbia. The various encampments, building occupations, disruptions of classes and harassment of Jewish students are ILLEGAL activities. Khalil's participation in them is enough to have his Green Card status revoked. Moreover, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt recently said Khalil had distributed official Hamas propaganda pamphlets that glorified the Oct. 7 attacks. https://apnews.com/article/columbia-university-protests-mahmoud-khalil-ice-arrests-9bf86be91daaecc98824ddeb7fef19eb Here's a list of Khalil's various activities at Columbia: https://canarymission.org/individual/Mahmoud_Khalil Take a look at this video and decide if the protests at Columbia were peaceful. Columbia Encampment Is Not Peaceful.mp4 Id there anyone who still believes Mahmoud Khalil doesn't deserve to be removed from the U.S.? -
I have to differ on that. Many people are in need of an explanation of the Hamas-Israel conflict and I'm certainly not apologizing. The war will only end when Hamas is destroyed and an overwhelming majority of Palestinians accept Israel's right to exist behind secure borders as the homeland of the world's Jews.

It's clear Hamas cares nothing about the Palestinian people. Otherwise, it would have extended the ceasefire and released the hostages. The Hamas attacks of Oct. 7 against soft civilian targets in Israel brought down absolute hell on the Gazans. Take a look at this chart from the U.N. In 2023 before Oct. 7, only 35 Gazans had been killed by the IDF and almost all were Hamas operatives. The chart does not include deaths in Gaza from the current conflict. In the years when Hamas did not launch any sort of Intifada (uprising), the fatalities in the Gaza Strip were low. The 47,000 deaths after Oct. 7 were the direct result of an attack on Israel that accomplished nothing militarily but caused massive retaliation. None of this would have happened if the Palestinian Authority had been in control. https://www.ochaopt.org/data/casualties

Israel Hamas War the Widening Middle East Conflict
Evil Penevil replied to Social Media's topic in The War in Israel
The agency which is the source of the articles, AA, is a state-run Turkish news agency (Turkish: Anadolu Ajansı, lit. 'Anatolia Agency'; abbreviated AA). Hamas had plenty of opportunity to extend the ceasefire and free more hostages. That's the difference Israel and Hamas. Israel is retaliating for the Oct. 7 attack on its civilians by armed terrorists and the fact that Hamas refuses to release the remaining hostages it holds. The IDF knows through long experience that harsh language alone isn't effective against Hamas. Plus they got one more high-ranking official. An excerpt from the BBC article. "The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it was attacking what it called "terror targets" belonging to Hamas. The strikes are continuing and the IDF has recently issued fresh evacuation orders for many areas. Mahmoud Abu Wafah, the deputy interior minister in Gaza and the highest-ranking Hamas security official in the territory, is among the dead.{ -
I didn't link you to a speech because there was no ONE speech to which to link. As several government officials explained, Mahmoud Khalil isn't facing deportation because of a speech but because of his support of Hamas, a designated terrorist group. He has been accused by the Trump administration of distributing official Hamas pamphlets, among other activities. I posted a link to the pamphlet in a different thread. Once again, Khalil has not had his Green Card revoked because he made a speech. His actions as a leader of Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD) in support of Hamas violated the terms under which Green Cards are granted. Since you don't like Fox as a news source, how about The New York Times? Pro-Palestinian Group at Columbia Now Backs ‘Armed Resistance’ by Hamas https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/09/nyregion/columbia-pro-palestinian-group-hamas.html?ogrp=dpl An excerpt about CUAD, the group which had Khalil as one of its leaders: "The pro-Palestinian group that sparked the student encampment movement at Columbia University in response to the Israel-Hamas war is becoming more hard-line in its rhetoric, openly supporting militant groups fighting Israel and rescinding an apology it made after one of its members said the school was lucky he wasn’t out killing Zionists." The posts on CUAD's Substack read as through they had been written by Hamas itself. Two examples, but there are many others: COMMEMORATING AL-AQSA FLOOD | HONORING OUR MARTYRS | https://cuapartheiddivest.substack.com/p/commemorating-al-aqsa-flood-honoring CUAD REMAINS COMMITTED TO OUR DEMANDS | A TRIBUTE TO YAHYA SINWAR | https://cuapartheiddivest.substack.com/p/cuad-remains-committed-to-our-demands Does anyone still doubt Mahmoud Khalil supports Hamas?

If you want to understand what the atmosphere was like at Columbia and the hatred Jewish students faced on a daily basis, watch the video below. The Administration of Columbia and its affiliate Barnard didn't take any meaningful action until very recently and almost certainly because of the prodding by Trump. The individual at 0.18 seconds threatening to murder Jewish students was one of the leaders of Columbia University Apartheid Divest at the same time Mahmoud Khalil was a CUAD leader. You can also take a look at the report on antisemitism at Columbia by the university's Task Force on Antisemitism here: https://president.columbia.edu/sites/default/files/content/Announcements/Report-2-Task-Force-on-Antisemitism.pdf It details many of the events in the video which had been led by Khalil. What makes you or any other BM believe Mahmoud Khalil has not received due process? What element of due process do you feel is lacking? I'm happy to outline in detail how due process has been met at every stage so far, but before I do that, it would be very helpful if someone could answer the above two questions. I have a feeling that some of you don't understand what due process means in an administrative procedure like revocation of Green Card status and removal from the U.S.

Separately, a Columbia student from India who had her student visa revoked after failing to disclose information on her arrest in connection with anti-Israel protests when applying for a visa extension has "self-deported" to Canada, the Department of Homeland Security said in a press release. A Palestinian student from the West Bank was arrested because of a visa overstay since 2022, the release added. https://www.dhs.gov/news/2025/03/14/video-columbia-university-student-whose-visa-was-revoked-supporting-hamas-and

You don't seem to realize that revocation of a Green Card or a student visa is an administrative procedure, not a criminal case. A visa or Green card holder doesn't have to be convicted of a crime. Should the holder violate the terms under which the visa or Green Card was granted, it can be revoked by the State Department or Department of Homeland Security without a criminal court proceeding. Accusations don't have to be proven in a court of law and affiliation with a terrorist group is a legitimate reason for deportation. BMs who sympathize with Mahmoud Khalil seem to believe he had his Green Card revoked and is facing deportation because he gave a speech or took part in a demonstration. That's totally wrong. He did a whole lot more than that, even if he hasn't been charged with a crime. I guess you missed the post I made that immediately preceded yours. The link in it gave numerous examples of his support for Hamas. https://canarymission.org/individual/Mahmoud_Khalil There's no doubt he is a supporter of Hamas.

Maybe you should read this document: Fact Sheet: President Donald J. Trump Takes Forceful and Unprecedented Steps to Combat Anti-Semitism https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/01/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-takes-forceful-and-unprecedented-steps-to-combat-anti-semitism/ One reason for Trump's action is the failure of Columbia and other universities to protect Jewish students. From Trump's Executive Order: "Immediate action will be taken by the Department of Justice to protect law and order, quell pro-Hamas vandalism and intimidation, and investigate and punish anti-Jewish racism in leftist, anti-American colleges and universities." This press release is also relevant: U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights Sends Letters to 60 Universities Under Investigation for Antisemitic Discrimination and Harassment Letters warn of potential enforcement actions if institutions do not fulfill their obligations under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act to protect Jewish students on campus. https://www.ed.gov/about/news/press-release/us-department-of-educations-office-civil-rights-sends-letters-60-universities-under-investigation-antisemitic-discrimination-and-harassment It looks like something is being done against antisemitism.

Jewish students were harassed and threatened, sometimes assaulted, during university demonstrations. Demonstrations off campus, sometimes in front of synagogues, also harassed Jews on their w ay to worship. Antisemitism is definitely a threat to the U.S. and can become illegal, depending on the form it takes. Spray-painting slogans, vandalism and threatening or assaulting individuals is always illegal. Take a look at the video I posted three steps above.

Intent figures in heavily. Mahmoud Khalil's intent in passing out Hamas pamphlets is to support Hamas in achieving its goal of destroying the state of Israel and massacring Israeli citizens. My goal is the opposite. I linked to the content of the pamphlet to identify Hamas as a terrorist group so people support the efforts to destroy it. I'm sure U.S. authorities know the difference between the two. It's not illegal to read or possess a pamphlet by Hamas. Distributing Hamas pamphlets with the intent of supporting Hamas could be illegal.
-
Here's the Hamas pamphlet that Khalil among others passed out during the takeover of a building at Bernhard College. Note that it's not a pamphlet that's merely ABOUT Hamas, but a pamphlet that was issued BY Hamas. It bears the Hamas emblem and the words, "Hamas Media Office." It's reasonable to believe that distributing official Hamas publications amounts to support of a terrorist group. Link to the full pamphlet: https://www.palestinechronicle.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/PDF.pdf Background story from the Hamas perspective: https://www.palestinechronicle.com/hamas-document-reveals-why-we-we-carried-out-al-aqsa-flood-operation-summary-pdf/

Mahmoud Khalil has received the due process to which a Green Card holder is entitled. It's not the same due process which he, or any other resident in the U.S., would receive if they were facing criminal charges. Due process is not identical in every situation. Khalil is scheduled to appear before an immigration judge on March 27. Here is a screen shot of the Notice to Appear that Khalil was given upon arrest: https://www.washingtonpost.com/documents/8a3cbff6-4589-43e1-8455-042fa9555e3c.pdf One curious aspect of the case is that Khalil is listed as a citizen of Algeria! According to numerous press reports, Khalil was born and raised in Syria. Hs parrents were Palestinian refugees. Under Syrian law, the children of Palestinians born in Syria aren't considered citizens of Syria. Khalil is now 30 years old. He studied at a university in Lebanon, then worked for a Syrian-American NGO. In 2018 he become a local employee of the British embassy in Beirut and worked there until 2022, when he entered the U.S. to study at Columbia. How and when did he become an Algerian citizen??? Maybe that is part of the reason his Green Card was revoked?

Tourist Brawl in Jomtien Sparks Growing Concerns Over Pattaya Image
Evil Penevil replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
What nationality were the brawlers? Why were they brawling? A news article should contain that kind of info. -
Yes, he is. "White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters Tuesday that Secretary of State Marco Rubio reserves the right to revoke former Columbia graduate student Mahmoud Khalil's green card or visa. "Leavitt said that under the Immigration and Nationality Act, the secretary of state has the right to revoke a green card or a visa for individuals who are 'adversarial to the foreign policy and national security interests of the United States of America.'" You can read more details in the linked article: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/white-house-rubio-reserves-right-revoke-green-card-visa-anti-israel-activist-mahmoud-khalil As one of the leaders of the anti-Israel group Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD), Khalil has called for the destruction of the U.S. as well as Israel. This article explains the ideology behind CUAD and its actions: What are the beliefs of Mahmoud Khalil’s activist group CUAD? - analysis "The issue of law enforcement action against the group’s leadership cannot be separated from the actions and objectives of CUAD, which perceives itself as a revolutionary force working toward the destruction of the United States and Israel. "The means to achieve this are not just through vandalism and civil unrest, which CUAD directly employs, as the group also supports terrorism at home and in the Middle East, praising the October 7 massacre as the pinnacle of revolutionary action." https://www.jpost.com/diaspora/antisemitism/article-845664 Below is a post from CUAD's Instagram page, which defends another CUAD leader, Khymani James, who said “Zionists don’t deserve to live,” basically calling for the deaths of Jewish students at Columbia. Khalil is believed to have written this post. The reasons haven't changed at all. The U.S. has cited national security and antisemitic actions since Trump made his initial announcement of the move to revoke visas of pro-Hamas foreign students. Pro-Palestinians have incorrectly assumed Khalil was being deported for speeches he'd made.
-
It's not unusual for the U.S. to revoke visas of students for security reasons. Because Mahmoud Khalil considers himself Palestinian (he was born in Syria) and was a leader of anti-Israel protests, the case has attracted a lot of attention. How many of you were aware Chinese students have had visas revoked? US reveals it has revoked more than 1,000 visas to Chinese nationals deemed security risks https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/09/politics/china-us-visas-intl-hnk/index.html Those Chinese students didn't disrupt classes or threaten and harass Jewish students at their universities.

You seem to believe Mahmoud Khalil is being deported for making a specific speech. That's not the case. He was arrested and will be deported for actions in support of Hamas. Moreover, his actions as well as his words as one of the leaders of anti-Israel protests at Columbia harassed and threatened Jewish students. A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, Tricia McLaughlin, "signaled the arrest was directly connected to Khalil’s role in the protests, alleging he 'led activities aligned to Hamas, a designated terrorist organization'.” She also described the arrest as being “in support of President Trump’s executive orders prohibiting anti-Semitism.” https://apnews.com/article/columbia-university-mahmoud-khalil-ice-15014bcbb921f21a9f704d5acdcae7a8 "This is not about free speech," Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters. "This is about people who do not have a right to be in the United States to begin with. No one has a right to a student visa. No one has a right to a greed card by the way." https://www.foxnews.com/politics/rubio-revoking-columbia-agitator-mahmoud-khalils-green-card-not-about-free-speech "New York state Assemblyman Jake Blumencranz, a Republican, also bucked the narrative that Khalil's case is focused on First Amendment rights, saying he wasn't arrested 'for holding a sign or chanting in a quad,' he was arrested 'because he actively engaged in activities aligned with Hamas, a blood-soaked organization that massacres civilians.' "'Let’s dispense with the nonsense — this isn’t a debate over free speech; it’s a matter of national security, plain and simple,' he said. 'The First Amendment protects words, not actions taken in service of a terrorist cause.'" https://www.foxnews.com/politics/pro-hamas-activists-deportation-not-free-speech-matter-law-trumps-side-experts
