  1. Yet that's what you are suggesting when you claim you want the fine to hurt. To make it hurt, you have to have a bigger fine for the rich than the poor, yes? If a rich guy doesn't want to wear a helmet, does he really care that he has to pay a thousand Baht now and then?
  2. Nice, now every new car will have to have a $1,000 interlock of the cap
  3. How do blind people read the fire button, wouldn't it be too hot?
  4. I can't speak to Phuket, but in and around Bangkok, but far and away most wear helmets. And no doubt you think a guy making 15K a month should pay 20K for a helmet? All things the same, is it your position that a guy wearing a helmet is safe, and not likely to be seriously injured when hit by a truck?
  5. So make it okay for the rich, but not for the poor? Which is a bigger disincentive, a thousand Baht fine, or bleeding out in the street?
  6. Don't be ridiculous, of couse it isn't ... but if you think it is, fine.
  7. When I was in my twenties I traveled with a carnival in the US. We were always stoked to help handicapped people on and off the rides, and it was considered "bad-luck" to charge handicapped kids... I find most people are kind and want to be helpful everywhere.
  8. I see far and away most Thais wearing helmets. When you earn 300 Baht a day, a 50-100 Baht fine is significant. For a guy like you, not so much. That's why I think the fine should be 10,000 baht for non-Thais.
  9. Most accident happen close to home. Well, that and the car starts beeping...
  10. While I see the occasional Thai not wearing a helmet, it seems to be the exception, not the rule. I would buy insurance, are you saying you wouldn't? I think driving is a privilege and as such people should be licensed. I do not think people should be compelled to wear helmets, why should they? You watch too many movies.
  11. It has been my experience working with Thai contactors that they will generally try to make right mistakes.
  12. How many people have actually seen a fire at a gas station? I never have. How many people have actually seen a phone catch fire? I never have. I have seen bed fire, chemical fire, kitchen fires, garbage fires, tire fires, car fires, boat fire, electoral fire. So is the thinking that my car will be filled with gas fumes (without me noticing) at the precise moment my mobile phone decides to explode?
  13. Did you mean to say Robinson's had a wheelchair ramp? So you're able to get most everywhere, yes? And the OP has someone to push/help him which makes a lot of difference. I lived in rural Thailand for over twenty years, nice people.
  14. Were it just Thailand it would not be that big a deal, but they would have to negotiate contracts with most of the hospitals in over 100 countries.
  15. Why is the individual not responsible? Your position seems to be that when an individual breaks the law, it's the law's fault for not severely punishing every infraction? How about a ten-thousand baht fine for non-citizens not wearing helmets?
  16. But clearly most any helmet is better than none, yes? So you never rode without a helmet or drove without a seatbelt?
  17. That a poor fitting helmet could possibly come off in an accident seems like a pretty weak excuse for not wearing one. I used to ride a bit, I hated wearing a helmet.
  18. So are you claiming the helmet likely came off in the accident?
  19. Earlier in the thread was it not pointed out the fumes were heavier than air? If so, how would they get to the battery?
  20. What about all the smoke damage on the car?
  21. I think two of the grounded plugs will generally not fit into the standard covers. One grounded and on not grounded, one grounded and one not grounded, one grounded and a switch, three not grounded, three switches, but not three grounded.
  22. I heard he was a psychiatrist in the SIS.
  23. I know that one of the things people selling finance models to is build different models generate make stock picks every day. Then, in a few years they pick whichever prediction panned out to sell their service.
