I had 2 epidurals long ago, maybe 30 years ago after a back injury and surgery. It gave me over a year pain-free after each injection. I would do it again in a heart beat. Just make sure it is a Neurologist that does it. This was done in the US, so I can't recommend anyone here. Best of luck!

The difficulty of avoiding sugar in Thailand.
PeterA replied to Felton Jarvis's topic in Eastern Thailand
If you are Pre-diabetic, you should eat like you are already one. There are loads of things not to eat, and some you can eat in moderation. I am now with type 2. I got no information from the local hospital on diet, so I had to use the internet for all my info. Potatoes and rice are two things to stay away from, as well as beer, white breads, processed foods like most cereals. You can eat something with a dash of sugar, as long as you keep it to once a day or less. I suggest getting a diabetes test kit from your local pharmacy. Test strips too, and start checking it yourself when trying different foods. Once you have diabetes, you will have to drastically change your eating habits, so it is best to fix it before you become a full fledged diabetic. -
I have seen enough and heard enough events directly related to ghosts or spirits, that any normal person would either be freaked out or a fervent believer, but I still have many doubts. I can't grasp the belief that spirits are among us and at the same time believe was are just one of the many species that inhabit the planet, and when we are done, we are done. I could write , at least a short book on the number of things I have witnessed over a lifetime. But yet I am not a big believer, because I can not explain them. When I can explain them logically, then I will re-access.

A few times in the past couple years when I end up in Korat without my car, busses are hours apart to my home, and hours drive away. The taxi's at the bus station always charge 2 times the normal price. I have taken a tuk-tuk 3 times now. A little rough on the bum being a bumpy ride, but it was enjoyable enough to always consider it a viable option. It is almost like a ride in a convertible if you close your eyes. I guess I am not such a high-roller to miss out on some simple pleasures.

I had my Zenni's sent to my sister in Ohio, USA, then DHL to me here. DHL took her for a ride, charging $189 to ship. Then DHL Tailand wanted a slice of the pie, but I told them no way. They eventually dropped the charges. Too bad the prescription turned out to be garbage. PD should carry over from an earlier script. That's the distance between your pupils. That should not change.

I can't even order from Aliexpress. It always says my account is having issues. I can't send them a message or a chat without it burping up more issues. Once I did ask about riding lawnmowers, and I got bombarded from sellers in India. For the same mower, I was quoted 19,000 thb and 65,000 thb, among others. I passed. Lazada or Shoppee. or local if at all possible.

Eucalyptus trees. They kill most of the grass around them, and grow a few meters a year. Ours are 5 years old, and at least 4 or 5 stories tall. The root systems are huge, so no worries of falling over in strong winds. When you grow tired of the trees, cut them and sell them for making charcoal or building material.

I thought extortion was illegal? International shipper does it again
PeterA replied to PeterA's topic in General Topics
Glasses are two years old. No receipts. The post office does not have them, D$L does. 5 hour drive to fight with customs is not worth it. -

My sister declared a value of $150 USD. She said DHL there told here to make it $200 for reasons unknown to me. -

Anytime I have something shipped via D$L, it gets re-routed to customs a second time after arrival, and 3 out of 4 times, gets a duty or tax added. I am paying fees to D$L, not customs. I am also paying import-export duty, and Duty Tax receiver. When I use the post office, 1 out of 10 times. And. D$L says it is confidential, not to tell anyone. Ha! Wonder why? They are telling me the forms did not say for personal use. Prescription glasses are for something else? -

I don't know what that is. -
Go to the village lead and tell them, if that does not work, the police should be the next stop.

I was sent the other day some glasses I forgot and left at my families home in the US. They were sent via D**. Paid in full at the time of shipping. Tracking shows clearing the customs in Thailand then being ready to ship to me at my home in Thailand. Then on the day of expected delivery, I get an email from D**, that they need more money for "services", to the tune of 1,025 THB. I thought extortion was illegal here? This is the 2nd time this shipper has asked for extra funds for services. As a consumer, do I have any rights or should I process this legally? Or suck it up as another screw job? Thanks

Once in Phimai, there are a few taxis in the center of town at the clock tower, which is a stones throw from the ancient temple. The bus station is a few blocks away. You can get off the bus at the clock tower if you tell the driver before hand. Elsewhere in Phimai finding a taxi is not very likely.

Lazada - how to get a refund with a poor review
PeterA replied to scubascuba3's topic in General Topics
Last week week I had received a small item from Lazada, but the wrong item. The seller refunded the 225 baht. Lazada said they put it in the "Lazada Wallet". I tried to take the money out, but they emailed the rules, which say only Thai people can get the refund. This happened to me a few years back. After I contested the rule, they told me they need a copy of my bankbook and passport, the numbers were not enough, they needed a digital copy. So it eventually happened, I got my refund accepted, to be sent to my bank (eventually). Today I am shopping at Shopee. -
Diabetes cases to double to 1.3 billion by 2050
PeterA replied to Confuscious's topic in Health and Medicine
For the many "Know-it-alls" here. Diabetes is not just for fat or obese people. I am 5'7", 100 pounds or 46 kilo for those that can't count. I have diabetes, type 2 not because I am fat, or eat junk food all day. Genetics spelled it out for me. So stop being ignorant and learn about something before opening the big trap and letting out the hot air. -
Many times if you use FedEx or DHL, they go right to customs and you end up with crazy extra charges. I have brought bagpipes from Scotland via Fedex, value of about $1000 USD on a good day. They went right to customs, (for a week), accessed a charge of $400 USD. Anytime I've had to deal with Fedex, the charges were over the top on items coming in. I have hand carried in bagpipes and never got questioned.

Try Shopee.co.th They usually have the same items.

"Wifes mum has severe cancer and is in hospital, she cant poo or pee by herself and her kidneys have shut down now as well, they want us to take her home to take care of her ." Most hospitals I assume will give the home patient a morphine drip or equivalent to stop or minimize pain, and show you how to maintain it, as well as come by to check on the patient. That's how I have seen it done in Nakhon ratchasima. From my experience, they give enough to keep the patient in a "near-coma" like state. Cancer here is real common and is usually not caught until late stage 4. When symptoms occur, it is usually too late to stop it. Unless you have big money for treatments that might give a little extra time only. Weeks, not years.
