  1. I can look out from my door almost every day now and see as many as 6 fires within a 3 klm range. And this is a small village. Garbage and rice fields being burned, coconut husks, plastic trash, areas between fields. multiply this times how ever many small villages in the country and you have your causes. Until it negatively effects tourism, no changes will happen. The other people don't matter, only tourist money.
  2. Highland Park. Incredible. At Wishbeer or other on-line Thai liquor stores, If you are on a budget, Johnnie Walker Double Black.
  3. How is your blood sugar? Before I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, I felt like dying. My A1c was over 14. Should be 7. I am underweight as well.
  4. There is a wildlife site on Facebook and a standalone website with trail camera in Alaska. The pics and videos are amazing. The name of the camera: Browning trail camera. Recon Force advantage is the model/ Check with Amazon. Skip Lazada if you want something good. I have one from Lazada that is basically un-usable. The shop closed a day after I got it, so no returns. It takes 2 pics that are fair, the rest are overexposed white screen. Cost me about 3K THB.
  5. When I think every small village in Thailand has at least one or more people making charcoal, the government should be looking outside the tourist spots and try to come up with a better idea other than passing the buck until next year at the same time.
  6. My wife's daughter is married to a Korean man, living in Inchon. My wife is 50 years old, "employed" as a housewife, owns land and a house here in Thailand. It was a royal pain in the -ar** to get a visa for her to visit, whereas another daughter and son, both under 25 and unemployed, easily got a visa from the on-line app. After being denied 3 times, we had to resort to using an agent to get a tourist visa. She held a round trip airline confirmation the entire time, and had more than sufficient funds in the bank. All that information was provided in the app from Korea. Arbitrary is putting the rules mildly.
  7. Nothing on their website about feedback for this measure. Sounds like the same thing every year. Nothing ever happens.
  8. Experienced Highland Piper looking to start a band in the province. If you have any experience, or none at all, now is the time to start. Message me and we can figure out the whens and wheres . Cheers!
  9. Once last year while in Bkk, I was needing a taxi to the train station. The driver said 300 THB, I said use the meter. He did, It ended up being 300 baht due to traffic and he knew how far. Maybe if he doesn't use the meter, he doesn't pay the cab company? Don't know for sure. On my last trip on the way to the bus station to go to Korat, the driver asked where I was going. I told him and he said his family was up that way. He would take me for 500 thb. Normally it is a 2000 thb fare in a cab. If they don't want to use the meter, get another cab. Easy.
  10. I had 2 epidurals long ago, maybe 30 years ago after a back injury and surgery. It gave me over a year pain-free after each injection. I would do it again in a heart beat. Just make sure it is a Neurologist that does it. This was done in the US, so I can't recommend anyone here. Best of luck!
  11. If you are Pre-diabetic, you should eat like you are already one. There are loads of things not to eat, and some you can eat in moderation. I am now with type 2. I got no information from the local hospital on diet, so I had to use the internet for all my info. Potatoes and rice are two things to stay away from, as well as beer, white breads, processed foods like most cereals. You can eat something with a dash of sugar, as long as you keep it to once a day or less. I suggest getting a diabetes test kit from your local pharmacy. Test strips too, and start checking it yourself when trying different foods. Once you have diabetes, you will have to drastically change your eating habits, so it is best to fix it before you become a full fledged diabetic.
  12. I have seen enough and heard enough events directly related to ghosts or spirits, that any normal person would either be freaked out or a fervent believer, but I still have many doubts. I can't grasp the belief that spirits are among us and at the same time believe was are just one of the many species that inhabit the planet, and when we are done, we are done. I could write , at least a short book on the number of things I have witnessed over a lifetime. But yet I am not a big believer, because I can not explain them. When I can explain them logically, then I will re-access.
  13. Many of the scammers are in Thailand. He should fix that first. The police do nothing. I was told there were too many to do anything about. We had the guys bank account information at Bangkok Bank, and yet they still sat on their hands. Easier to blame Facebook I guess.
  14. A few times in the past couple years when I end up in Korat without my car, busses are hours apart to my home, and hours drive away. The taxi's at the bus station always charge 2 times the normal price. I have taken a tuk-tuk 3 times now. A little rough on the bum being a bumpy ride, but it was enjoyable enough to always consider it a viable option. It is almost like a ride in a convertible if you close your eyes. I guess I am not such a high-roller to miss out on some simple pleasures.
  15. He failed to mention (for obvious reasons) that the Thai police departments also failed any action to prosecute perps in Thailand that commit the fraud. So blame Facebook, not the local thieves.
  16. I had my Zenni's sent to my sister in Ohio, USA, then DHL to me here. DHL took her for a ride, charging $189 to ship. Then DHL Tailand wanted a slice of the pie, but I told them no way. They eventually dropped the charges. Too bad the prescription turned out to be garbage. PD should carry over from an earlier script. That's the distance between your pupils. That should not change.
  17. I can't even order from Aliexpress. It always says my account is having issues. I can't send them a message or a chat without it burping up more issues. Once I did ask about riding lawnmowers, and I got bombarded from sellers in India. For the same mower, I was quoted 19,000 thb and 65,000 thb, among others. I passed. Lazada or Shoppee. or local if at all possible.
  18. Eucalyptus trees. They kill most of the grass around them, and grow a few meters a year. Ours are 5 years old, and at least 4 or 5 stories tall. The root systems are huge, so no worries of falling over in strong winds. When you grow tired of the trees, cut them and sell them for making charcoal or building material.
  19. Glasses are two years old. No receipts. The post office does not have them, D$L does. 5 hour drive to fight with customs is not worth it.
  20. My sister declared a value of $150 USD. She said DHL there told here to make it $200 for reasons unknown to me.
  21. Anytime I have something shipped via D$L, it gets re-routed to customs a second time after arrival, and 3 out of 4 times, gets a duty or tax added. I am paying fees to D$L, not customs. I am also paying import-export duty, and Duty Tax receiver. When I use the post office, 1 out of 10 times. And. D$L says it is confidential, not to tell anyone. Ha! Wonder why? They are telling me the forms did not say for personal use. Prescription glasses are for something else?
  22. Go to the village lead and tell them, if that does not work, the police should be the next stop.
  23. I was sent the other day some glasses I forgot and left at my families home in the US. They were sent via D**. Paid in full at the time of shipping. Tracking shows clearing the customs in Thailand then being ready to ship to me at my home in Thailand. Then on the day of expected delivery, I get an email from D**, that they need more money for "services", to the tune of 1,025 THB. I thought extortion was illegal here? This is the 2nd time this shipper has asked for extra funds for services. As a consumer, do I have any rights or should I process this legally? Or suck it up as another screw job? Thanks
  24. Once in Phimai, there are a few taxis in the center of town at the clock tower, which is a stones throw from the ancient temple. The bus station is a few blocks away. You can get off the bus at the clock tower if you tell the driver before hand. Elsewhere in Phimai finding a taxi is not very likely.
