New tablet for 2k THB. Fake specifications?
PeterA replied to JeffersLos's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
I bet there is no guarantee. If you can afford to throw away money, get a real one with a guarantee from a real store so you can try it before you buy it. And, it you have questions, someone is there to help. -
PM Paetongtarn Orders Action as Air Pollution Reaches Hazardous Levels
PeterA replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Here in the sticks, people make a pile of damp garbage with leaves and sticks no bigger than a 1 gallon bucket and light it. It will smoke profusely for hours on end. No waiting a few days for it to dry first, where it would burn in a few minutes. Education on how to make a fire would be a great place to start. -
We here in Phimai get it year round. People burning Eucalyptus to make charcoal. Can't see to the horizon because of the thick blanket of smoke every damn day. The government does nothing.

Anyone with lower back pain? TENS stimulation
PeterA replied to scubascuba3's topic in Health and Medicine
They used a tens unit on me in hospital during rehab. So I bought one, and have used them now for 15 years when the back pain flares up. -
Our village did it back in the summer, except for old people over 40 something. Must have been about 5 people tested. Everyone is old here.

Tell me what scam you have been in ?
PeterA replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I got the same scam 2 years ago. The tuk tuk driver was stationed in front of the hotel I was staying at. I said I needed a ride to such and such a place, not more than a few klms away. He gave me a price, then said can we stop at a tailors. I knew the tricks of the trade, as I 've been here a long time, but I had time on my hands. So off to the tailors. Nice place, all Middle Eastern people. A big shop as well, two stories, 10 or more salesmen wandering about. I thought about some silk for the wife. So he grabbed one 1st in line on the shelf and gave me a price. I liked the color, so we did a deal. I think it was 900 thb for enough to make a dress. I know good Thai silk is not cheap. So I finished my journey with the driver. When I gave my wife the silk, she was not impressed. She told me it was not real Thai silk. Worth a hundred baht or two. The next time I stayed at the hotel, the tuk tuk driver waved remembering my face and asked if I needed a ride. I gave him my best "evil eye" and moved on. Lesson learned, again. -

Mysterious objects from sky leave Thai couple on cloud nine
PeterA replied to snoop1130's topic in Southern Thailand News
Looks like slag glass from a foundry or factory. Funny to get lotto numbers from garbage! -
Tick bites can leave you with Lyme disease, but the ring can take many days to form. The ring is a rash, treated with antibiotics if caught quick. I had it while living in Germany. The doc caught it in time as I didn't wait more than one day after the rash appeared. If it appeared overnight, it is not a tick bite. If a centipede, you would be in severe pain. My best it is a spider bite.

I can never sleep on a plane, even in business class. I drink plenty of water, have maybe one drink of whisky, but keep it to only one. Too many studies show it is terrible for you with diminished air and moisture on a plane. Also need to avoid the possibility of a migraine or hangover. I take a good book, and some snacks. I get up and walk the isles and stretch as often as possible. Shoot for the isles as well so I don't need to climb over anyone. But the drawback there is people climbing over me. It is a toss-up.

Why Kamala Harris Lost: The Challenges of a Complex Campaign
PeterA replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Im my humble opinion, the Dems lost as they continue to play the good guys. No cheating, lying or any of the antics the Chump campaign did. When they play as dirty as the republicans, they will stand a better chance.- 258 replies

It is generally safe to use these agents. But if there is a snag, such as a cancellation, or flight change, or delays, you will get no recourse from the airlines in most cases. Even more so with hotels. You are paying less than direct to the hotel in most cases. So you will get the cheapest room available, which is often the handicap room, or night next to the elevators, or even nearest to construction. After many years of traveling, I use the on-line resellers to find flights, then I deal directly with the airlines and when booking.

The first time I visited Chiang Rai, I was very impressed. The streets were clean and well lit. No holes in the sidewalks, no dog poo on the sidewalks, no traffic. It became a fav place. When I finally moved back to Thailand, I ended up Phimai. No regrets, but Chiang Rai would be a nicer place to live in my opinion.

I would suspect they are waiting for payment for duty. If you have a tracking number, go to your local post office and ask about it. They may be sitting on the request for payment. It has happened to me a few times for that reason.

There is a hotel with a restaurant near me in Phimai. In 8 years, the wife and I have gone maybe 4 times. Two times the food was acceptable. The last time, about 6 months ago, the service was horrid. In fact, I never got my food, but the wife got her's. There was one party in a private room, and the staff could not take care of two different tables. The previous time, about 3 years ago, the food was almost edible, but the waiter was rude to my wife. When the service or food is bad, we just do not return. Waiting a year or so in hopes of a personnel change.

Food my local Lotus doesn't carry, or can't stock the shelves when supply is gone. No other store in Phimai. Sure would be a great opportunity for a TOPS, MACRO, or another grocery store. There is one other store, but it is set up for Thai commercial - restaurants and such.

I had the same thing happen last year. I did get my insurance money back, but not the cost of the EMS. Now after another lost package, I am looking for an alternative to the Thai post system.

My mail consistently gets lost, misplaced or sits for an eternity. Has been going on for the past 8 years, and I really need to find an alternate. I am familiar with services in the US that will give you an address you can have mail sent to them, which they then scan, notify you and send it on to you if desired. Is there any service like this in Thailand? Thank you.

Thai Police Bust Multi-Million Baht Sex Toy Smuggling Ring
PeterA replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
All the lost tax revenue, and for what greater good? -
Facebook marketing is good, IF you pay for the extra services, otherwise no one will see it. It usually runs a hundred baht a day or so. They did try to charge me again a month after my ad expired though. So watch for that. I paid for a guitar ad, and got a few replies in a few days. When it expired as a paid ad, not one call for two months. Bahtsold is good. The best are FB groups related to the instrument.

I sold one four years ago using Facebook. I met the buyer at the Rolex company in Bangkok, where they certified the watch. We did the sale in the lobby afterwards. Make damn sure you are in a safe place. A few years ago someone had their watch stolen from a guy who was looking to buy, in a small hotel in the lobby. Have some backup people standing nearby.

Marriage for American marrying Thai person
PeterA replied to ThaiNoobie101's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I do not remember the entire list, but if you have a previous marriage in the US, you will need a copy of the divorce decree or annulment papers from the clerk of courts where the divorce occurred. It seems like that is all. Then the marriage in Thailand, if it is an official one (vs local village only) you can recorded it at the US embassy. Remember for tax season, to get an ITIN, or International Tax ID number. I good US tax office can apply for one for you from the IRS. Then you can file married and save a bundle on taxes, rather than filing single. I used American Asian tax co. Highly recommend.
