Nothing “dodgy” about the Visa agent I used to get a tourist visa to Aus for my TGF. In fact I used them again to get her 2nd visa …and will continue to use them in the future. The agent did everything. Couldn’t be happier.

Yes, Kraft was acquired by a USA company 10 years ago, but as an Australian, seeing Vegemite sitting on the supermarket shelf labelled as a “Product of the USA” just doesn’t sit right. Especially as most Americans who have ever tasted it, hate it!

Australian Aged Pension
Nemises replied to VOICEOVER's topic in Australia & Oceania Topics and Events
2 in 3 pensioners who rent in Aus are living in poverty. Page 3 today’s Syd Daily Telegraph RETIREES LIVING IN POVERTY Jade Gailberger A $2bn boost to federal rent assistance is needed as more retirees face homelessness, with two in three pensioners in the rental market living in poverty, new research shows. The Grattan Institute report calls for the maximum rate of rent assistance to rise 50 per cent, $53 a week, for singles and 40 per cent, $40, for couples. Lead author Brendan Coates said this would ensure single pensioners could afford to spend $350 a week on rent – enough for the cheapest 25 per cent of one-bedroom homes across capital cities – and pay for other essentials. “Australia is failing too many retirees who rent,” Mr Coates said. “Only a further substantial boost to rent assistance can ensure that all Australians get the … retirement they deserve.” Under the proposal, Commonwealth rent assistance would be indexed to changes in rents for the cheapest 25 per cent of rental homes in capital cities, instead of inflation. The rent assistance increase would cost about $2bn a year. The Grattan Institute recommended funding the boost via controversial measures such as the tightening of super tax breaks, curbing negative gearing, halving the capital gains tax discount, or counting more of the value of the family home in the age pension assets test. The report found “two in three retirees who rent … live in poverty, including more than three in four single women”. -
No, because I never answer calls from unknown numbers. Those callers get to enjoy the pleasure of leaving a message - if they want to.

We are there for about a week staying near Shibuya, Tokyo. Apart from shopping, she only wants to go to the snow (for the first time) to take the customary 1 million Insta selfies - not to ski nor stay there. Simply get the selfies and get out. I have skied all my life so I’m happy to also get out immediately after Miss Thailand finishes her photo shoot. We want to catch the Bullet Train. Can anyone advise the closest ski field to Shibuya to suit her purpose? TIA

Not all AC units are designed to remove PM2.5 effectively. To specifically target PM2.5, look for units with specialized filtration or consider a dedicated air purifier.

Good question, nothing noticeable. Probably worth researching though.

I use a % on a ped fan. The % depends on how hot it is as the cloth obviously reduces the air flowing out. I cover ALL of the air-con intake when the AC is needed when air temp/humidity gets too high for the ped fan. As mentioned above by another, the 3M HEPA cloth is over-priced. Lazada has much cheaper cloth options which work just as good.

Thanks, and as evidenced in my photos!

Simply place a piece of PM 2.5 filter cloth behind a portable fan. Watch it turn black in a few hours. Thank me later!

Expats How Do You Deal With The Toxic Air Pollution in Thailand?

Agree. Sometimes it can be hard accessing the HDMI socket. Lucky my multi-purpose Leatherman has the necessary screwdrivers 😁

Already mentioned the app: LiveNet Do you use LiveNet? Does it show advertising videos?
-
Just returned from a holiday staying at a “luxury” hotel. My room had a TX 6 android box. Was trying to watch the Australian Open tennis on the box using LiveNet but it kept switching to advertising videos (always during match critical stages) thus completely ruining the viewing experience. Thank goodness I could stream the tennis on my phone during those ‘ad block outs’. I couldn’t cast my phone because it was not a smart TV. This problem will never happen again as I will be sure to pack my laptop and HDMi cable from now on - regardless of the hotel’s rating. Just wondering if these annoying LENGTHY video advertisements occur on all android boxes? Or just LiveNet?
-
Agree. In fact I prefer to use my modern, powerful laptop (with a wireless mouse) instead of ‘dodgy android boxes’ or a phone. I find an HDMi cable more reliable than casting from a phone especially when travelling - which is often - as not all hotel TVs have casting abilities. Also, some of my home-country channels are geo-blocked on my phone (even when using a VPN) but not on a laptop.

I had the “fortune” to date a beautiful Thai lawyer. Lasted until she ordered me to ditch my late model Ford Ranger and replace it with an upmarket European car to match hers. In other words, about 1 week.
