Why not? The article says China consumes much more than it produces. This mine would save them from buying from abroad. But your statement does underscore an important fact: the amount of gold is constantly expanding, with more and more of it produced each year, while bitcoin is finite. And remember Uganda also discovered a huge gold field two or three years ago, of 31 million tons of gold https://www.mining-technology.com/features/uganda-gold-deposit-investment/. You're also right to point out, I think, that many once precious stones and metals are not so unique anymore. Not only are there more than enough natural diamonds to collapse the market, man-made diamonds are virtually the equal of natural ones. That goes for pearls, rubies, and emeralds as well. Seems to me that bitcoin is a much more stable and predictable market than gold. And I used to invest in gold mines. But if you want to see a bunch of thieves, look at the people that run gold mines, especially Canadian junior miners. I'd much rather trust someone like Saylor and bitcoin who I believe are a thousand times more transparent.

What is the potential of this portfolio?
John Drake replied to BillStrangeOgre's topic in Cryptocurrency News
Michael Saylor just purchased $5.4 billion in bitcoin last week, with more purchases to come. I don't think he did that because he thought he would lose money on it. As long as Saylor is confident staying in bitcoin, so am I. He's got a lot more to lose than I do. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/microstrategy-spends-54-billion-buying-another-55000-bitcoins-shares-slide-165131332.html -
What do you think this news will do with all the gold the story mentions coming into the market?

I think of the Ike-JFK years as the apex of American civilization. Everything was going in the right direction, investments made for the future, foresight, strength married to humility. There was enough momentum to keep things going until throughout 1965. After that, it's all been downhill, as far as I'm concerned, as the LBJ-Nixon years began a decline that has never been checked seriously. I don't know where Trump is taking us. I just know I want to alter the present course America is on.

Thai Police Hunt 'Foreign Gang' Who Defied Law in Viral Video
John Drake replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Whatever they've done, just lock them all up. Wearing tattoos is enough. That's what the guy, Nayib Bukele, in El Salvador did. Lock up the gangs and never let them out again. Seems to work pretty well. From the most dangerous to the safest country in Central America. Oh, and buy bitcoin like Bukele did. Would solve crime and the budget problems at the same time. -
Pam Bondi Tipped to Lead Justice Department After Gaetz Withdrawal
John Drake replied to Social Media's topic in World News
She can start first thing on day one by cleaning out the Justice Dept. She may not be able to fire civil servants--at least not easily--but she can transfer them. Barrow, Alaska, would be a good place to put them. Beatty, Nevada, might be a nice option for those who like warmer weather. -
The Decline of Free Speech: How the UK Became a Third-Class Nation
John Drake replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Go to Stocktwits and Yahoo Finance Stock conversation boards. Lies are everywhere. And they actually cost people money. Comparatively speaking, political discussion boards are mild stuff. -
Scarborough watchers simply cannot tolerate anything that deviates in the slightest from their worldview. I think a lot of these people are right on the brink of total mental breakdowns. I expect a wave of violence from them, assassinations, bombings, and other terrorist acts. Before I came to Thailand, I used to watch Scarborough for part of the morning. Even though it mostly included a lot of head nodding, it was somewhat interesting at times.

The Decline of Free Speech: How the UK Became a Third-Class Nation
John Drake replied to Social Media's topic in World News
That's true. We are restricted in things we can say about Thailand and people, places, businesses in Thailand. But we are much freer to say things in Thailand about our home countries that could get us lawsuits, arrests, or mob attacks back home. -
Let's see. This is indeed a good test. Perhaps in response, the US should classify the court an international terrorist organization and subject anyone supporting the court or giving aid to its so-called prosecutors and investigators to US sanctions. Also issue US arrest warrants for the court and its members.

This all doesn't go without notice by American citizens. It will also show up as a direct impact on citizens' lives very quickly. So the irony is that this virtual amnesty the current regime is conducting will end up making mass deportation easier when it's carried out. People are going to want them gone, no matter how.

Musk & Ramaswamy Unveil Detailed Plan for Federal Workforce Cuts

Just close the Department of Education for a start. It's not only useless, it's actually counterproductive.- 71 replies

Confiscation of all property and money any illegal has on their person or in a bank. RICO businesses caught hiring illegals. Frog march straight into prison politicians, such as the mayor of Denver, who promises to use his police force to resist illegals' deportation. RICO Mayorkis and every single government official responsible for flying and busing illegals from foreign countries into the US.

Talk about doing "no harm!" The status quo in government health, nutrition, medicare, pharma approval, and medical mandates has generated an overwhelming amount of harm over the past forty years. Just look at obesity, cancer, diabetes, and heart disease, all of which are gobbling up lives left and right in unhealthy America. Something needs to change. And it needs to change drastically from the status quo.

I'm pretty cheap about my utilities. I try to save as much as I can. Operating a fridge, a computer, a TV, and a couple fans only last month (only 2 days using the aircon at night), I was still stuck with a bill for 995 baht. Just a year and a half ago, the same sort of usage would have got me a bill for less than 800 baht. I keep a record of electrical units I use and I'm sure this is the case. Prayuth was much better for electricity prices.

Appeal Launched for British Teacher Gravely Injured in Thailand Crash
John Drake replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
However he may have blundered with insufficient insurance, risky riding, lack of money back home, I'd say these injuries are severe enough to generate some pity for him and hope for the best as well as maybe throwing in some money. He's going to live with horrible enough physical consequences without being lectured on inadequate insurance. -
The Exodus of Left-Wing Voices: Where Will They Bleat Now?
John Drake replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I see (or is it "saw" now?) the Guardian in my X feed all the time. Never paused to look at it, but I guess the algorithm figured I should be exposed to it. I think that's what the Blueskyers want to avoid, encountering any other opinion or point of view differing from their own. I tend to look at comments from several perspectives on X. I just ignored the Guardian because over time I stopped trusting their content. When a publication's stories become predictable before you even read them, it's time to look for new sources. -
Thailand Steers Towards Free Trade, Green Economy at APEC Summit
John Drake replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
With a new administration, which is promising a Reciprocal Trade Act, the United States is going to slap tariffs on Thailand that match Thai tariffs on US goods. If Thailand reacts by increasing its own tariffs, the US will simply match. The days of the free ride and easy access to US markets are over for Thailand. The Thai government can take that "free trade" posture and shove it up the BRICS they want to join. -
A Radical Experiment: How Elon Musk Could Shake Up Washington
John Drake replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Easiest place to start is the Education Dept. Shut it down. Fire them all. It's not only useless, it is a part of the federal government that has seen objective analyses of its area of responsibility decline rapidly since its beginning. Then, move on to Justice and move out the time wasters, obstructionists, and DEI plants. Defense has too many generals and their toadies, too little ability to oversee and audit expenses. If an expense cannot be accounted for, people need to go to jail and the sum extracted form the next budget. And considering their disastrous performance over the past 50 years, State needs to be entirely dismantled, reconstructed, and overseas palaces such as the one in Bangkok sold off or rented out as condos to Russians and Chinese.
