Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Just fit the sub with pedals the crew can use to recharge the batteries. You're welcome Thailand. -

What China is doing in Cuba is a big threat to all of us
Purdey replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Wouldn't it be good if America also had an outpost on Cuba just like China? They could call it Guano or Guantanamo for instance. . -
In principle, it sounds like a good idea to round up overstayers. Not sure whether this will affect tourism when the western media create headlines like "Thailand ejects unwelcome tourists", "Thai police round up tourists for not carrying their passports" "Racist policies in Thailand". People just don't read the details these days.

Formerly in favour, 2 Senators will now not support Pita for PM
Purdey replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
While Thailand's lese majeste law is overly strict, one can never understand the pressure on senior figures to comply. I was looking at counties that have lese majeste laws (see Wikipedia) and there are a lot more globally than I thought. I personally don't hold it against senators who were brought up in traditional, conservative homes for supporting the royal institution and its protection or preservation. It would be like trying to ban surfing in Australia. People object to changes in their traditions, including article 112, and would obviously object to foreigners thinking they have any say. -
Trump’s dominance of GOP field has America bracing for a toxic campaign
Purdey replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I am not sure which period of US history you consider "great." Many people look back on the Eisenhower period after the end of the war, a period of peace. A period of growing economic prosperity. Liberalism. (Be that as it may, even the Democratic Party today is considered conservative or right of center by the rest of the world) What made America pretty good (how do you define great?) in the eyes of many and in the sense of helping society develop, included giving women the vote, social security, Medicare, Medicaid, unemployment benefits, the GI Bill, the voting rights act, the civil rights act, the Marshall Plan, the New Deal, Civil Rights (birthed by Republican Eisenhower but enshrined in law by LBJ), the Federal Home Loan Program and numerous other acts such as creating national parks, the endangered species act, the ACA, paid vacations, the 40 hour working week and the 8 hour working day. You have probably learned in civics or history lessons that these great ideas were passed by liberals and opposed by conservative Republicans. You may have to explain to me when was America great and why. -

Bank of Thailand considers interest rate cuts to address household debt
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This idea of lowering interest is really aimed at helping banks out of a predicament they created. Even at zero percent interest it is doubtful many poor borrowers can or want to pay back what they owe. This is a banking problem, not a tax payer problem. Banks can say no to loan requests but they can't say later they didn't know the borrower would default based on their own risk assessment. Whatever happened to the mantra that to contain inflation, the central bank should raise interest? -
Her miscarriage left her bleeding profusely. An Ohio ER sent her home to wait

Could it be about the cost of the D&C procedure? I have heard so many people say they cannot afford hospital care in the US - even with insurance due to copay and whatever. Saw a stand up comedienne say that the reason Republican states banned abortion was to ensure school shootings continue. The women in the audience applauded. Sad situation. -
GOP hit list: Biden officials targeted by Republicans for impeachment
Purdey replied to Social Media's topic in World News
As long as people have solid evidence, then they should provide it to the legal authorities. But just to keep making up stories with no display of solid proof is such a waste of time. The Republican Party could try focusing on working for their voters. -
Sorry.
