  1. But you have to give it to the Thais, they take care of their own. My government, in the same situation, would charge me for an evacuation flight; probably twice or thrice what a regular flight would cost...
  2. So, they want to 'help' the draft-dodgers then, giving them longer entries?
  3. I never fell for a prostitute. I also found normal girls, albeit not in Pattaya.
  4. Funny, Vietnam doesn't need such reciprocal agreements, but still gives tourists of a large number of countries 45 or 90 days...
  5. Russia has cheap oil. India and China immensely profit from it, and, perhaps, Thailand wants in too. Also, Putin is Xi's best buddy, and China is Thailand's o̶v̶e̶r̶l̶o̶r̶d̶...
  6. I ended up in Thailand in my early 30s (after a long holiday there). Pattaya was the place I lived at for the first year. It had to be there, or Phuket, but Pattaya was way more fun back then.
  7. Well, I always cared about hers, and always remembered it.
  8. That was in 2002; very unlikely that she wanted to suggest internet banking to me. Also, she could have asked me if I wanted it, even after I told her that I didn't.
  9. Yes, and my personal experience is not that Thai bar girls are worse than other Thai girls... Other Thai women also often seem to have money problems (even if they have well-paid jobs), or (look for) other guys on the side. - My (non-bar) ex-girlfriend only once (in eight years) remembered my birthday...
  10. Landlords and hotels check, and so do some banks, I'm sure. I was once even asked by a bank clerk in Pattaya whether I 'worked in Thailand'... I couldn't see any reason why she would ask me that, unless she was "spying" for the authorities.
  11. Overstaying is never a good idea. Even if I travel somewhere where I get "3 months" visa-free entry, and no-one really can tell me how many days that is, I make sure that I leave on or before day 90, if I plan to travel there again.
  12. Yes, there have been clampdowns recently, or how did they find the tourists who, say, overstayed for a week?
  13. sorry how is it related? Perhaps JimTripper is referring to the problem of English proficiency in Thailand if one, as a foreigner, has to communicate with the Revenue Department, tax lawyers, etc., etc. - Will all foreigners, who stay longer than 180 days in Thailand, have to become fluent, not only in general Thai, but also Thai tax terminology?
  14. So, you work for them? (Also, in your propaganda piece, you probably mean 'employ', i.e. a verb. Are you Thai?)
  15. I do. But I also have a very good idea how they get their (high) expenditure numbers, as I, myself, once was interviewed about my travel expenses by such a tourism authority. Do you?
  16. Funny, just had the same idea...
  17. Practically, yes. But even the Australian government recently threw in the towel in regards to China controlling Darwin Harbour (while criticising at the same time the Solomon Islands for allowing big Chinese investments)...
  18. If they don't go to hide in Thailand, they'll go to Vietnam, Cyprus, Turkey, Georgia...
  19. Technically, yes, your extension expires with the end of your work permit. "Living 'visa free' with no worries" would depend on your future plans, e.g. whether you want to apply for a work permit, or any visa extension in the future. If it were my 'last visa extension' in Thailand, I wouldn't worry. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it...
  20. How would Immigration at the airport know? They'd need to check the work permit, which, however, has to be returned to the Labour Department.
  21. That sounds about right. The children must be high-maintenance! Do all those 1-week tourists stay at 5-star hotels? Impressive!
  22. Considering that a good number (e.g. Malaysians) only come for weekend trips, this would be quite impressive...
  23. If he wanted that, he should have asked for a bilateral agreement before giving free entries to the Chinese. Why should China reciprocate now?
  24. Most unlikely, as those 7 days are commonly given when a visa extension is refused. Any 'problems' will rather depend on the overall visa history, and/or whether the visa officer/IO decides that the applicant/visitor has "too many Thailand visas in the passport", or "spends too much time in Thailand"...
  25. I moved to Asia when I was quite young. l'm planning to move back home in a few years due to healthcare provided there, and for doing things I don't do here (much), e.g. hiking, sightseeing... - I may still spend some time in Asia in the future, just not the whole year.
