Most Malaysians come for day-trips, not travelling further north than Hat Yai. Why Thais love tourists who only come for a few days (Chinese, Malaysians), heaven knows; probably because they like to see tourists leave again quickly...
I went with my new girlfriend to a fish restaurant in 1998. One of the first things the waitress said, was: "I didn't think that 'falang' can afford fish." - I almost left, but just swallowed my pride. If one walks past a restaurant, sometimes they hiss at you: "Poor", or "Keeniaow". That's how they "attract" new customers here. - So much greed and bitterness... Suffice to say that Thailand became the country where I spend the least money in a given period, but rather abroad.
1. Friends (since this year)
2. Game of Thrones
3. Seinfeld
4. Frasier
5. Falcon Crest ("Dallas with grapes")
6. Magnum P.I. (with Tom Selleck)
7. The Walking Dead
Been like that for many years, except the years defined by their engineered virus.
You should see how a hundred of them invade a Big C store like locusts, searching for food to export to the motherland... Strangely, though, they don't buy up baby formula anymore, as many decided that kids are too expensive.
Well, people at the hotel were impressed; ladyboy in, 5min. later out, 30min. later back with two gorgeous girls... Come on, leave me those 5min. of fame. LOL
Sadly, above saying, in my experience, is less and less true. There are more and more bitter people with grudges and mental problems around, so, ideally yes, but don't expect to receive kindness back...
Nong Khai - they don't speak English. Udon Thani - friendly people, whose English is definitely better than that of people in Nong Khai.
Khon Kaen, Khorat, Ubon, Buriram - can't comment.
Imagine, both, the shooting, and Israel hadn't occured, what would the TAT blame instead for the lower tourist numbers? Moon phases, droughts, bed bugs in the Paris Metro...?
Just saw an elderly Westerner with a Frankenstein-like ladyboy at Asoke yesterday.
That being said, I picked up a really cute and feminine looking one many years ago in Pattaya. Was about to undress 'her', when he told me that he wasn't a 'she'. We went back outside, and thirty minutes later I was back at my hotel with two gorgeous girls...
A Wai and a few-hundred baht fine, probably. In other countries they'd lose their license. But in Thailand they are told to be more discreet with their scams...
Whenever I travelled to Laos, I loved it, esp. the friendly people. But when one bought something, it was likely to be from Thailand, at unreasonable (for the locals) prices...
Having to import basically everything from Thailand, or China clearly doesn't help with high inflation and living costs. Even before the pandemic, things imported from Thailand were overpriced.
