  1. I was told so by bank staff (Krungsri Bank) in mid April 2023. Why not go there yourself and ask them?
  2. Personally, these days, I wouldn't go back home (to work, then fund a life in Asia) for less than five years. Unless, of course, I were a highly-paid specialist, but then, of course, why live in Asia, worrying about not having even 400,000 baht...
  3. I did both, relying on my savings.
  4. It sounds plausible to me, as even with a long-term visa, banks nowadays also want to see a driver's license in addition to the passport. Why one's passport isn't enough, who knows; fear of counterfeit passports?
  5. Good luck with that. My ex-girlfriend, who had a great income, and spent a lot of money on creams and potions, didn't worry about my financials, but expected me to pay for everything, despite the fact that, at the time, my income was exactly zero... If very lucky, perhaps, the wife could 'guarantee' a loan for your friend.
  6. Correct. Going home for only a short time ('to raise cash') can be expensive, unless one owns a property back home. But if the OP did, he probably wouldn't have to worry about the 400,000 baht...
  7. Many Thais live pay-check to pay-check, and/or borrow money from banks, or money lenders, which both aren't really options for foreigners (unless having a work permit, or other regular income).
  8. Will be interesting to see, whether foreign transfers will also be subject of such a 'remittance tax' in Thailand...
  9. Two or three days ago I read in "The Thaiger" that foreign investment declined... Also, '84 billion baht benefitting the employment of 5,703 Thais'? That's a large sum for each created job...
  10. Three hours is the recommended time for the (usual) airport routine, so I'd figure an extra hour, or, better two would make sense.
  11. So, maybe from 9 baht to 10 per unit, oh well...
  12. Nope. Was just a bit overconfident, and mischievous...
  13. Look way younger, and my physical health is 20 years or so better. Can't complain, if it weren't for hair getting grey, and knees a bit weaker (partly due to more weight) since the pandemic.
  14. Why would they even work in such a dangerous place?
  15. Announcing one thing, then doing the exact opposite... What's the news?
  16. The coveted Chinese tourists won't care. They are usually done with their Walking Street tours by 7 p.m., then back to the hotel...
  17. I remember, when I was 21, one time, at a company's party, I purposefully used the Ladies' a couple times, cause 'why not?' (And yes, alcohol helped to get the necessary self-confidence...)
  18. High season? Lots of Indian and Arab tourists in April and July when I was there. Mostly single guys.
  19. Millions of Thai baht? And I thought, Switzerland had the franc... Perhaps just 50,000 francs, or so, but "millions of Thai Baht" sounds way more impressive, of course.
  20. If they order a submarine from China, they better man it with good swimmers, Tofu-dreg and all...
  21. Still tens of billions lying around, to be used for new toys... Never mind the sorry state of infrastructure, education, pollution, etc., etc. What country are they planning to invade/be invaded from that they need submarines?
  22. Still pondering, whether I'd like to do some travelling there. But for seeing the nature there's probably not enough transportation, and I'm not keen on seeing slums. Might decide on Egypt, perhaps.
  23. Nor does the TAT, obviously. As the problem has been known for decades.
