What long-term visas are still available now?
DrJack54 replied to BeerT's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Yes. You are talking about 30yrs ago. If you are over 50 you can obtain a non O retirement. How long do you wish to visit Thailand? Better options than a non O -

Approaching Extension Expiration
DrJack54 replied to Grandpaneal's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Put simply the agent provides money in the bank however it is not maintained. Immigration has discretion/ability to overlook the financial requirements. The agent will obtain extension based on retirement. Many on AseanNow cry wolf about this and claim it's corruption etc. That's a war of words been going on for years Bottom line is that the stamps in your pp are legal. If people have the funds available i pretty much always suggest that you can do it yourself without the use of an agent. Without reading back over the whole thread, I think I recall that you did not meet the financials during the last 12 months. If that's the case you would need to exit Thailand and kill off your existing extension (btw it's not valid) reenter and obtain new non O retirement and subsequent extension. I would see an agent immediately. -

Correct. When doing it online the clock stats from approval date. In person clock should start from due date which also applies to reports done via mail. -
Retirement Visa Query
DrJack54 replied to Thaifly88's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Certificate? ....meaning residence certificate? He is asking about is a TM30 sufficient for annual extensions. Some (most) immigration offices will accept a TM30. Some may want to see a lease. -
Unless your in Pattaya where its 27,000 and 12,500 ???? First up you quoted me without attaching my tag Secondly at that stage the OP had not stated which office. Turns out to be Koh Samui. The prices I mentioned were general and included opening bank account. The low ball prices you quoted are Pattaya which is nothing to do with Samui. Nor is your post concerning Phuket.

Visa Exempt entry at land borders
DrJack54 replied to sadmoneysnow's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Have you obtained tv from PP previously? Would not be my choice to obtain a tourist visa. Also for border bounce my pick would be Laos. Eg Nong Khai friendship bridge. -

Landlord who refuses to do TM30
DrJack54 replied to GringoSteve's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
This all bit off topic. I'm in Phra Ram 9 but that's irrelevant. My tips for living in Thailand rental wise, not in order. 1. Not highrise. 2. No private ownership. 3. Contract only (no casual rentals) 4. Strict rules. 5. Not serviced. 6. Walking access to MRT or BTS. 7. NO children. Personal additional. No gym. No pool. No half half meaning private ownership along with rooms available for tourists. -
Changing annual visa
DrJack54 replied to liana3legend's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Fine for overstay is 500baht per day. That won't occur in your situation . Right now use your current permission of stay (think you mentioned September?) to take care of immediate issues such as organizing funds that at some point you can have in a Thai bank account in your name only in the future. Obviously legal matters to get underway for husband's will etc. Prior to expiry of your current permission of stay exit Thailand and reenter visa exempt or tourist visa. That entry can be extended by 30 days and in that time you organize your non O retirement. If financials in that time frame are not possible you could have the non O and extension taken care of by agent. That's an added cost and just a fall back position if financials not possible. -
You stated that you never left Thailand......from your post... ." I never even left Thailand." Meaning immigration on Thai side of border sent your pp over to Cambodian side for entry stamp all while you had a coffee with Thai immigration. Ridiculous. All this not to be confused with illegal practice of many many years ago where expats could send passports with an agent to border while they sat in Bangkok or wherever. In any event I don't believe your account. Even in recent years you need to physically exit Thailand at border and reenter. That involves obtaining entry doc (or eVisa) to bordering country. All of which has nothing to do with the fairytale that you outline.

Good thing that this has been mentioned again Sometimes there is a non approval when folk do not use autofill (magnifying glass after first couple of fields) Thinking most of the time it's down to small difference in address entry. Naturally you need to update any changes such as entry date as pointed out in earlier post.

Changing annual visa
DrJack54 replied to liana3legend's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I don't think you are wrong. Immigration will not be aware of situation and won't cause an issue. Depending on your financial situation you could (as I mentioned earlier) at some point exit Thailand (do not buy a reentry permit) and reenter visa exempt. The pathway to obtaining a non O and extension has been discussed in many threads. Of course you would require the 800k in your bank account on day you apply for the non O . That gives you a 90 day stamp. Obtain 12 month extension in last 30 days of that stamp. You certainly have a lot on your plate. Best of luck.
