Yes. As you pointed out the application can be made up to 30/45 days prior to expiry of current permission of stay. In having the bank account back up to 800k that must be done at least 2 months prior to day of application. Lot of folk using this method (including myself) prefer to just leave the 800k+ in the account all year round. Avoids any slip ups

A non O-A is a visa valid for one year. When someone obtains extensions of permission of stay from that visa it is simply an extension of stay. A non O-A cannot be obtained in Thailand. BTW there is no such thing as a "retirement visa"

I notice in thread couple of different opinions . In your example you changed the basis of the extension from marriage to retirement, the permission of stay will start on day of application. That's different to OP. Seems he applied for 60 day extension to visit family. That extension should start from expiry of current permit.

Yeah. Unless someone is staying between 75+ and 90 days ....sorta makes the choice to arrive visa exempt a no brainer. Those with extensive history of recent time in Thailand prob best with the tourist visa option.

Have good read of ubonjoe post earlier regarding obtaining a Thai pp for the infant. Will make travel to Thailand much more convenient in future.

It's not like immigration looks the other way. More that overstay fines are not imposed. I mentioned in previous post that I think it's up to age of 15.. Ubonjoe would know the rule in detail. Do you know if this is just a holiday and if so how long is the planned stay.. If only extra 30 days require personally I would obtain an extension. Even though not required.

Has same options as any foreigner. Obtain extension etc. Entered on USA pp. In reality children (think it's under 15) are not given an overstay hence one option is to do nothing

It would seem so however if anyone is planning on living in Thailand ongoing a poor choice would be a non O-A. As demonstrated by the many folk killing off their non O-A in order to obtain a non O based on retirement. No ongoing insurance requirement.

Some folk just do not want to have money in Thai bank. Also funds not required to be kept in account with a non O-A. Prior to insurance is was excellent visa. Hard to make a case for one now.

You can Google VOA countries for Thailand. For example India is one example. Usually 15 days currently 30. For visa exempt (also referred to as visa waiver) there are many countries that qualify. Canada is one. Usually 30 days currently 45.

Why leave it so late. You can report online and via mail and in person up to 15 days prior. You deal with CW so the mail option window most likely gone.

Please give definitive definition to the term "genuine tourist" (not from Google) and "genuine reason" Thai immigration have set zero limit to visa exempt entry via air. Would be very easy to make clearly defined rules.

You are most likely aware of this. When someone is refused entry they don't have options. They are flown back to where the flight originated from. Some advise that they were able to select where they opted to fly to. Take that with grain of salt. It's not impossible but not the norm. You have a TV. You should be fine into BKK
