Renewing car and MC license at same time
JBChiangRai replied to EVENKEEL's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
If you take two, they will only need one. If you take one, they will need two. This is Thailand. -
Just as we were finishing up charging another dolphin arrived, I reminded him the charging for free has finished and he said he has the same 30,000 baht promotion I have. How is that the coincidence!
-
There was a guy charging at the BYD dealership in Chiang Mai but only 12 minutes left on his dolphin. I reminded him the promotion is over but he said he knew but was on platinum. We are currently watching Wallace and Gromit vengeance most foul on Netflix whilst charging. I’ve seen 115 kw too.

Lazada did offer an installment option, I used our own guys. You should budget 2,000-3,500 baht for installation.

What about loans
JBChiangRai replied to still kicking's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I give interest free loans, send me 1,000 baht booking fee for details. -
Some of the brands only charge about 1,500 baht more for 18,000 BTU. TCL Inverter 18,000 BTU on sale for 10,022 baht on Lazada. I have 6 of this unit in my house and 7 others. It’s a great, very quiet unit.

I will be charging my car later today in Chiang Mai, I’ll be very surprised if anybody’s charging up, it will be interesting to see the speed I get with nobody else on the charger.

I’m currently in Chiang Mai for a few days, hanging paintings and installing a washing machine in our house there. I am glad the free promotion will end tonight, I have 24 months of free charging (or ฿30,000, which ever comes first) and I will finally be able to use it. I would rather pay PEA rates in Chiang Mai than risk the drive then needing to queue. I do feel sorry for the coffee shop next to the Bangchak charger in Chiang Mai as their trade is about to drop enormously.

Bypassing passport control
JBChiangRai replied to 10years's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
We did clear immigration at DMK but because we didn’t have the foresight to get boarding cards for the CEI leg. They did scan our carry on luggage on arrival at CEI even though it had already been through customs at DMK. I can’t say whether with boarding cards we could have CIQ fly-through. -
I offer money to the spirits every day, I throw money up into the air god/spirits take what they want and what they don't take, I take back.

Prepping for pollution season in Chiang Mai
JBChiangRai replied to Old Curmudgeon's topic in Chiang Mai
The house itself is not particularly drafty, but it has a glass lift between floors on the back of the house and that lets a draft in, I have sealed it as much as possible but the door design could do with improvement. The house is on the large size, it's 600m2. I don't think what we have is overkill. My friends and neighbours typically have a few air purifiers screaming away when it's highly polluted, I prefer to have double or treble the quantity but running quietly. Most people seem to think you buy one small air purifier and then expect it to produce miracles. I'm a big fan of Xiaomi, but all the models except the MAX are very noisy. -
Bypassing passport control
JBChiangRai replied to 10years's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
We could bypass passport control/immigration today, but we won’t. We will return from Phu Quoc to Chiang Rai today. We will have tickets for PQC-DMK and DMK-CEI issued at Phu Quoc and be given CQI Fly-Through stickers to put on our shirts/blouses. We will clear immigration and customs at Chiang Rai. They will hold a sign up at the plane door on arrival to Chiang Rai and process us separately from all the other domestic passengers. We could avoid passport control by not voluntarily identifying ourselves at this point, or even booking and checking in electronically to another flight whilst waiting in DMK domestic departure lounge. The only other way I know to avoid passport control is at Chiang Kong where enterprising Laos people run a boat service between the two countries at night facilitating the underground Laos domestic and laborer traffic. -
Prepping for pollution season in Chiang Mai
JBChiangRai replied to Old Curmudgeon's topic in Chiang Mai
I take the same approach to air purification as I do to air conditioning. It all has to be silent and cover the whole house including corridors, the only exception is the garage which is air conditioned but there are no air purifiers there. To be silent the air purifiers have to be large, we have several Xiaomi MAX units that run very quietly. My bedroom has 2 large Toshiba units, the kitchen/diner/family room has 2 Xiaomi MAX units, the living room has 2 and the entrance foyer and corridor has 4 units, this is the center of the house, it’s very leaky keeping this purified and cool and makes a huge difference over the entire house. We are able to keep the whole house around 30ppm CD2.5 quietly on the most polluted of days. If I was starting again from scratch, I would buy nothing other than the Xiaomi MAX units. They are expensive but a far superior unit and very quiet. -

That’s very true but the ICE market is shrinking and legacy manufacturers are very sensitive to making a loss with just a very small change in market share. Take Nissan, Honda and Mitsubishi for example, they are all struggling and the proposed merger of Honda and Nissan will end in tears. I agree with Carlos Ghosn, they don’t have any synergy for a merger, they have similar vehicles in the same spaces and both of them are way behind on electrification of their product range. it is Japanese legacy auto makers own fault because they have sleepwalked into this problem, believing Akio Toyoda, that EV’s wouldn’t take off. I am reminded of Kodak who didn’t believe digital cameras would go anywhere.

Have you gone off your postman now?

On holiday over Xmas in Phu Quoc. We took 2 grab taxis, Toyota Veloz out 20km and a Mitsubishi Xpander back to the hotel. The Toyota was a noisy piece of crap with horrible plastics, the Mitsubishi was quieter and more spacious but still a massively inferior option to any BYD model. The Japanese are a generation behind the Chinese in all variants, ICE or EV.

Who was your insurance with? And which broker? I’m sure it will be useful information for other people here. -

One of the conditions of the MG battery lifetime warranty is that you don’t fit aftermarket parts. I too have an MG4 air filter but I won’t be using it, the dealer can have their 621 baht to fit it. -
I had my service yesterday, they fixed a klunking noise from front passenger suspension (I suspect a missing bolt) and said there’s a ticking noise at 30kmhr over gravel in ECO mode so I’ve just dropped the car off with them to fix (I can’t reproduce it) and I’ll pick it up when we get back from Phu Quoc. Amazingly, nobody charging their car at BYD right now while I wait for my daughters to pick me up.

How can I tell if they have done the SIM swap?

Electric Vehicles in Thailand
JBChiangRai replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I used to be a fan of Roojai, but I'm not happy with their customer loyalty. They talk of 20%, 30% and 40% No Claims Bonuses, but they don't exist. They won't cover my daughters till they are 25 and I think they won't cover me after 70 years old too. They won't insure my BYD Seal Performance, but a Premium or Dynamic would be ok. Cars they used to cover, have disappeared from their list. -
Electric Vehicles in Thailand

MG called me today and said they had multiple new quotes for me, the best was Viriyah, 3rd year insurance on MG4 X-model was 29,000 THB with a 1,000 THB discount so I paid 28,000 THB. 600,000 baht cover and up to 5 named drivers of any age. BTW, I got the mileage wrong, it's done almost 23,000 km. It seems all electric cars are 28-30,000 THB which I think is excessive. -
I’m surprised it’s legal to do that.
