Remember first getting to Isaan, meeting a family relative behind the wheel of a songtaew waiting to pick up school kids and he's drinking a can leo with a straw.

Just got back from Krabi, 5 star hotel packed with Indians. These were not the dregs of society by any stretch. No real complaints but when waiting in line for something they sure do enter my personal space a bit too much.

Posters had to dig up a 10 month old thread to post and start the ball rolling again. Posters who have never lived in the US have more and stronger opinions than it's citizens.

Plane fares heading north are exploding.

The Hilton with a full ocean front room would be my choice, go to the mall for dining and enjoy the festivities from safety of balcony chairs.

I told my old lady recently that I planned to spend all my money before the end. She goes, "what about me?" Well, what about you. I've bought 2 homes, 2 vehicles, you don't work, you don't save the money that comes your way. We have a kid together which will get left over money, property in US. My MIL has 2 ex husbands who live nearby and neither gives her squat, it's the thai way. So, I don't feel the least bit bad about my way of thinking.

So, we ended up at Holiday Ao Nang Resort, they overbooked so upgraded us to a suite with pool view, 4K+ a night. Very, very nice. The buffet breakfast was cool with ocean view. Many nice restaurants, 7-11 close by, beach across street. Drove to Koh Lanta, stayed at Lanta Sands, Klong Dao beach. Having a car was almost necessary there. All in all a great time.

I don't know a thing about bribery. What I do know is my extension was stamped and approved by a legit IO. What my agent does to expediate my extension is not my business.

If I park 800K baht equivalent in a US bank, right now I get 40K Baht interest for the year. Now, who's smarter.

I've taken the speed boats tp Koh Larn before, doesn't take much chop to make boats feel like they'll tear apart. Spooky. Just came from Krabi where we took a long boat tour day before the rough seas. Put that life jacket on at all times. If something happens, you'll be ready.

The transactional nightmare won't disappear in PI. There, the ladies main objective is to go to a western country and her family will follow.

I get what you're talking about. There's nothing wrong with enjoying your home cooked meals at home. If you moved, not so far away you can have a more relaxed feeling and still be near Pattaya for shopping. I'm a good 30 minutes from Pattaya, near the beach, 7-11 and restaurants a 30 sec MB ride away. Thais here couldn't care less about me. And there are many places such as mine near Pattaya. I go to the malls for movies and dining, sometimes a bif bike ride to Soi Bukhao for some beers and back home again.
