  1. Anyone here collecting SS benefits for yourself and your minor Thai born child. I'm getting ready to apply and wondered if anybody has any advice. I'll be 62 with an 8 yr old Thai born with US passport and SS card. My understanding is child's benefit is equal to half of what your benefit would be at age 66 1/2 yr even though you collect at age 62.

  2. I checked out the Interceptor at the Pattaya dealership. For the money it seems like a decent deal. Because it is a lower tech bike I would think getting repairs done would be easier. I was told it was a 2 mos. wait for one.

The only way to know is to buy one, can't sit on the fence forever.

How did you accomplish that -- presumably you didn't haul the Notary Public into the doctor's office to verify his signature.....?

Stupidest requirement I've ever see... Do they think your wasting all your time and resources to get a visa you don't plan on using?  And, if in fact they do require this (?), they're putting you in the position of probably purchasing a ticket in a less than optimum window for best price. Probably invented by the same guy who came up with enforcing the TM30 ludicracy.

The notary isn't for the Dr. it's for you. Crazy as it sounds, at the Hollywood location, I took my medical cert across the street to a place that does it all, copies, money orders, and they notarize. I wrote on cert.......I certify this is my original signature and I signed it. Cost was $17.00, but it made absolutely no sense.

No questions about Med Ins for me, did ask me to email flight details.

  4. Listen, money lost by having money sitting idle in a Thai bank account is like splitting hairs isn't it. I just got my first Non OA and I got to say it was a pain in the ass.

If you don't have someone to will the money to in Thailand then what will happen to the 800K when you kick the bucket? That would be my main concern, if I didn't have a family here.

But we all march to a different drummer, still remember sitting in a little bar and the guys next to me paying the bill with coins, not bills and a few coins but all coins. Yep, Dutch they were. ahahaa

There is no account to open in NY

It is basically an intermediary bank

If you have a Bangkok Bank account you can use BKB NY to pass funds thru to your Thai account

(after doing test deposit routine etc)

But you never withdraw via NY etc it is just intermediary

PS: Not sure these days how doing test deposits etc work as ACH/IAT formats are changing

But I did just use BKB NY last week to transfer funds to BKB Thailand

Thanks, not using for direct deposit. Just an easy way to transfer money. I'll try a test run.

  6. I went into my local Bangkok Bank in Thailand and asked for paperwork to open account in New York as I had read on their web page. Was told no can do in Thailand.

Anyway....I figured asking here is a short cut to the truth of HOW???

  7. The website in Hollywood doesn't mention any Ins. requirement for visa. I have Blue Cross - Blue Shield (International Plan)

Does anyone else have this Ins. and plan to show proof of this when applying for OA visa.

No moaning and groaning replies......please. This will be my first retirement visa from Ca. and it just keeps getting more complicated. If I can't use my US Insurance as proof well I might as well hand over BHT to an agent here in TL for a retirement visa.
