  1. An issue met with bland indifference by a succession of British governments, irrespective of political stripe. They say the British did not get to rule the world by being nice, apparently that applies to their own people too.
  2. Would not live there if you paid me. Hot, polluted, expensive.
  3. Do NOT drive. You are placing yourself and others at great risk. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV): This is the most common cause of vertigo, particularly when triggered by changes in head position, such as lying down or rolling over in bed. It occurs when tiny calcium carbonate crystals (otoconia) in the inner ear become dislodged and enter the semicircular canals, which are responsible for detecting head movement. This disrupts the sense of balance and causes vertigo. Are you on any blood pressure medications? What is your BP normally? Do you take Viagra? See a doctor before something worse happens, such as a fall with a broken hip.
  4. I have private health insurance in Australia. At my age, and with the pre-existing conditions I have, no insurer in Thailand would even offer to insure me. I self-insure. Based on several experiences here, I would say the Thai public hospital system is superior to the corresponding Australian public system. Quite inexpensive, I'm sure a Thai national in an Australian public hospital would pay a lot more. No doubt the cost escalates as procedures needed become more complex.
  5. I see you are true to your usual form, attacking the poster rather than the message. It just shows your lack of anything of substance in rebuttal, consistent with your low level of education. Yes, people who are swayed by a fake populist who really only cares about himself are stupid.
  6. The average income of Thais in rural villages is 2000-3000 baht/month. A 7/11 employee, depending on seniority, earns between 10,000 and 30,000 baht/ month. Average Thai wage is 15,000 a month. An Australian age pensioner receives about 49,000 baht. Most other Western nations are similar. Someone still in the workforce makes much more. I am just going on balance of probabilities.
  7. I don't know what a conspiracy theorist and all-round nutter will do. I think it is highly likely he will ban fluoridation of tap water, which will make the dentistry profession very rich. Or perhaps he will ban sugar as well, Prohibition all over again. Everyone knows how well that worked.
  8. Polio is still endemic in Pakistan and Afghanistan. There are ten countries where tuberculosis is still endemic.
  9. If the Chinese were designing a virus for the next pandemic, they could not wish for a better appointment. A recovering heroin addict who claims a worm ate part of his brain. What could possibly go wrong?
  10. True. It's quite rare for Thai women to bring equal income to a relationship with a foreigner, and I am highly skeptical of those posters who claim they do. All I can say is I am getting excellent value for money, for those who want to view our relationship in those terms.
  11. IIRC Trump said he was going to abolish the Department of Education. Which may actually be a good idea, if the bureaucracy is too much for the teachers at the coal face. Russian education collapsed in the mid-eighties. Russia now has a severe shortfall of scientists and engineers, as the ones they have are retiring.
  12. Occam's Razor says the simplest explanation is also the most probable. On that basis, IMO lack of education is most likely.
  13. What makes you think I am doing any of that? I don't feel humiliated, just sad Americans have been so stupid.
  14. Mine is good for a lot more than that, and has proved it multiple times. Sounds to me like you got burned.
  15. I like to listen to the sound of our washing machine in the afternoon while I nap. My GF goes off to play pa som sip with friends in the village until the spin cycle is completed. Clothes are dry the next morning, ready for ironing. The OP should specify whether he is using a nonionic or anionic surfactant before claiming his clothes are superclean.
  16. Two years. By then, the Americans who voted for Trump will have realized what a horrific mistake they have made, and will vote accordingly in the mid-terms. Meanwhile, Trump or Vance will be trying to polish a turd. I do not repent from saying the turkeys voted for Christmas. No doubt MAGA's will try to humiliate leftists. That's merely to make themselves feel good about their manifold shortcomings.
  17. I would be quite happy to take on a mental test, provided people much younger than me do too. Going by some of the posts I see on ASEAN, IMO quite a few would fail - miserably.
  18. Smoking reduces lung capacity by 2 - 3 litres. The average non-smoker has a lung capacity of 5.5 - 6 litres.
  19. Fair enough, it gets hard on this forum to distinguish humor from posts that are deadly serious. My apologies. May you continue to flourish.
  20. IIRC you were commenting on Big Pharma as well. In the USA, it's a monster out of control. As an example, a cancer drug I was taking for 12 months cost me AUD 100. I am reliably informed in America, the same course of treatment would have cost USD 70,000. We have had leftist governments on and off since Federation. They are usually the ones introducing major reforms. As for wokeism, Australians are much more easy-going than Americans, who seem to be getting wound tighter and tighter every year. We are also far more cynical about politicians from the left OR right, which is why we have so many independents.
  21. Air Asia is headquartered in Kuala Lumpur. The pilot was Indonesian, the First Officer a French national. The cause of the crash was ascribed to pilot error. I don't know what your point is.
  22. Tyson's punching power against fellow professionals was legendary. IMO he still has that, if not his former speed and stamina. Most heavyweights can break a rib with a single punch, that is how hard they hit. Jake Paul is not a professional boxer. He's probably never taken a punch from a pro like Tyson. IMO his best shot is to keep running around the ring until he tires Tyson out. If he tries to mix it with Tyson early, it will be a short fight.
  23. If you don't have one, buy a large suitcase and pack toiletries plus a week's worth of clothing. Leave any non-essentials behind. Take all official documents. No forwarding address. Change your phone SIM and email address. Close social media accounts. Your choice to empty joint bank accounts. Then, walk out. No goodbyes, you're gone. Never go back. IME clean breaks are liberating.
  24. Do you avoid flying with any Thai carrier, because the pilots are Thai and by your definition incompetent? Or the aircraft have not been maintained? I am confident any nuclear industry in Thailand would have the same international oversight as the aircraft industry. Having said that, an Australian report indicates SMR is a very expensive way to produce electricity: "The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) has estimated that small modular reactors (SMRs) are a high-cost technology that would not play a major role in Australia's efforts to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The CSIRO's 2023-24 GenCost report found that SMRs are up to nine times more expensive than large-scale wind and solar".
