Fixing Thai education is not just a matter of money
Lacessit replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I don't know anything about teaching. I know a fair bit about being taught, in both private and public schools. I don't disagree teaching 40+ students would be a hard row to hoe, and would tempt many teachers to just go through the motions. I was fortunate in having good teachers at the primary and secondary stage, who encouraged and extended me, to the point I won scholarships at both the secondary and tertiary level. The first WAS in a 1950's classroom. OTOH, I had a history teacher who made the subject insufferably dull, although I now find it fascinating. I don't know how private and public schools compare in Thailand. IME, private school teachers in the West are better paid, have manageable class sizes, and are better at what they do. Perhaps it is a positive feedback loop. -

I would be prejudiced against any individuals who left a toilet in the disgusting condition described, irrespective of nationality. Perhaps you have not noticed, Russia is the aggressor in Ukraine. The majority of Russians in Russia seem to support the Russian who started said war, so it's not surprising there is some prejudice against them as a nationality.

It would be difficult for them to have tailpipe emissions when they have no tailpipe. The drive shaft of an EV is effectively an armature, producing electric current as it turns in a magnetic field. Any electrical discharge will create ozone. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/cind.818_3.x

Miicrowave Oven Repair in CM...Cheaper Options?
Lacessit replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in Chiang Mai
Affordable counter-top microwaves did not appear in stores until the late 1970's, I am talking 1950's. IIRC my parents did not get a B&W TV until after I had left home. -
I am wondering if anyone has taken the trouble to measure ozone emissions from electric cars.

I evidently had a deprived childhood. My parents had no servants to serve dishes in the way you describe. We were not social climbers either, none of Hyacinth Bucket's candlelit suppers for us. My religious instruction was also deficient. There was no Eleventh Commandment which decreed thou shalt eat rice and cabbage hot, and together. Cabbage is an excellent low-carb food, rice is not. A Black Mamba is one of the most lethal reptiles on the planet, surpassed only by the Australian taipan. Did fear rule your dinner table? IMO you were conditioned to eat this way, as surely as if you attended a madrassa. -
Opinions on HEV cars in Thailand

EV's are a good choice for mostly city travel, not so good for long distances. At their best when the owner can recharge from rooftop solar. 900K will buy a cheaper EV, the jury is still out on resale value, after-sales service, and reliability. Hybrids are more versatile for a mix of city and country traffic. A flat battery won't mean calling a tow-truck. -
Miicrowave Oven Repair in CM...Cheaper Options?

Dear me, you do like making life difficult for yourself. Why not eat the dishes one after the other? You mean you can eat four dishes all at once, all piping hot? Your gullet must have an asbestos lining. I can enjoy my meal by eating dishes in succession. For example, I will start with a lemon soda, some roasted almonds, and bamboo + chili. No heating needed. Next cab off the rank is mixed vegetable - broccoli, cauliflower and beans cooked on the induction heater. Topped off with Mainland vintage cheese, or Edam. The air fryer will do sausages, beef patties, steak, pork, salmon and chicken. About 8-10 garlic pods go in as well, I love roasted garlic. Dessert is either icecream, or a mix of my own cold stewed apple and ginger, with Kellogg's bran flakes and yoghurt. Great for regularity. Again, no cooking needed. Finally, tinned coffee heated in the microwave. Having left the tin, of course. I suppose you do get some exercise by running back and forth to the microwaves. The Chinese you admire - don't they have dishes served one after the other? -

THREE microwaves? I have an air fryer, a microwave and an induction heater, to prepare my food in a civilized and diverse fashion. Have you ever tried to poach eggs in a microwave? Apart from any other considerations, I can guarantee my appliances take up less room. The Mongols used to cook all their food on their war shields. IMO three microwaves is the modern equivalent of their culinary barbarism. -
Tosser is British idiom, galah or drongo is Australian. AFAIK tosser has the same origin as <deleted>.( Rhymes with anchor )

Trump wins Iowa caucuses, cementing frontrunner status in 2024 race

I used to work with a guy from Siberia. As a student, he was sent to the wheat harvests in the new lands. The harvest was stored in bags. Thread and machines to sew the bags up either never arrived, or arrived too late. As a result, about one-third of the crop was usually lost to birds and vermin. -
IMO it is a good idea to wear socks in Thailand, due to the risk of opportunistic infections. Some years ago, I was just wearing sandals here. My right foot became infected with cellulitis, and it took a 10,000 baht course of intravenous antibiotic to fix it.

I am confused. Do you file your 2023 tax return at the end of March 2024, or 2023? That would make it the FY in 2022. -

Depends on whether the 180 days is retrospective. So many question marks. -

Those people presumably would have to file, and wait for the RD to decide if their pensions are taxable. I am pleased I stuck with the 800K baht method, after briefly flirting with the income method years ago. -
IF Not Thailand: Then Pago Pago?

A couple of points for your consideration: Living too close to the sea invites tsunamis. On the bright side, rising sea levels are unlikely to affect the topography, if you are sensible about where you rent. According to my favorite American author, John D MacDonald, Samoans view their American colonizers much like the Indonesians view the Dutch, or Indians view the British. That is, given the opportunity, they would cheerfully flay, gut and roast them alive. Thailand does have the plus of never having been colonized. -
New Thai Tax On Remittances??
Lacessit replied to giogio's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Anyone with two brain cells would have transferred sufficient funds ( up until March at least ) prior to January 1, to ensure there was no reportable income. If there is no income to report, why would they need to file? Best wishes for a speedy recovery. -
New Thai Tax On Remittances??

I would suggest everyone takes a deep breath, and calm down. Anyone who lives in Thailand for less than half the year can stop reading now. The only action one MAY need to take is getting a Thai tax number prior to their next extension. Which may or may not be needed at Immigration. No one needs to put in a tax return until March 2025. The Thai authorities have yet to clarify what happens with countries that have double taxation agreements. Having a Thai tax number does not necessarily mean a tax return has to be filed. I have an Australian TFN, and have not put in a return for the last two years. The Thai authorities have already said transfers of savings accumulated prior to January 1, 2024, are exempted from tax. That is my reading of the situation, feel free to disagree. -
IMO the medications they are giving you are causing hallucinations. Also confusion, because you should know the answer already.
