  1. The insurer has acknowledged I have paid the premium. I have a receipt. As other posters have pointed out, it's only the Por Ror Bor insurance which should be necessary. I am now thinking my GF tried to renew the registration without the Por ror bor, and has confused the two.
  2. It's not making much sense to me either, I am trying to navigate this from Australia.
  3. I suspect either my GF or the DLT official is confused.
  4. They do, that's how I have asked them for another copy.
  5. I renewed the comprehensive insurance on my vehicle on July 1. The registration expired August 5. Due to some screwup between the insurer and the Phan post office, I have not received a copy of the new policy. When my GF took the car to the Phan DLT, they refused to renew the registration on the grounds it was uninsured. What should I do going forward? I have already asked the insurer for another copy of the policy.
  6. Desktops and laptops AFAIK don't have Airplane mode.
  7. You're reminding me of a woman at a party in Australia who decided to take me to task about moving to Thailand, and having a Thai GF. I said " Unlike here, she can't take half my assets if we split. She cooks for me, washes and irons my clothes, trims my toenails, cuts my hair. She is 23 years younger than me, is great in bed, and never has a headache. Tell me where in Australia I can find a woman like that". I thought she was going to throw her glass of wine in my face, presumably she thought better of it.
  8. Typical narrow-minded comment.
  9. As always, it depends on one's point of view. There are some that regard retirees here as failures. OTOH, I made the move because I felt stifled in my home country. How many men have the guts in their 60's to learn a new language, immerse themselves in a foreign culture, and walk away from everything that is familiar and comfortable? I once worked with a guy whose ambitions were to marry his sweetheart, have kids, buy a house in his home suburb, and barrack for his football team for the rest of his life, attending every match. He ridiculed me for wanting to travel. One of his ambitions was achieved when his wife ( good Catholics ) presented him with twins. I didn't hear any more about him, maybe he is content. A pretty dull life IMO.
  10. Bits of David Copperfield and Nicholas Nickleby, plus Mr. Jaggers.
  11. Why do posters feel it is necessary to laugh at their own jokes or comments?
  12. Many northern Thais have Chinese in the mix somewhere. I was not aware Earl Woods had Chinese ancestry as well, according to Wikipedia some European ethnicity. The Thai mothers probably did not realize Tiger is not into women with small busts. His wife and all the women he had affairs with have one common denominator - a large rack. Sorry, off topic.
  13. What does the OP want to test for? Viscosity, Coefficient of friction, ester content, EP additives, wax content, volatiles?
  14. Tiger Woods is a professional golfer, the son of Earl Woods ( African-American ) and Kutilda Woods ( Thai ). He has won 15 major titles, and has a net worth of USD 1.1 billion after paying out $100 million in a divorce settlement. I can only conclude you are living in a Himalayan cave if you have not heard of him, or have zero interest in sport.
  15. Luk Kruengs are not treated well in Thai schools. Tiger Woods is a luk krueng, a big exception.
  16. HIV is never cured, it's medication for the rest of one's life.
  17. I don't use them, mainly because there is no way of knowing how long the food is sitting on the back of a scooter, breeding bacteria.
  18. 71 mostly bickering posts on this thread does not look like intelligence to me.
  19. It's quite common for a Thai to refuse to admit to a mistake, as it causes loss of face, which is very important to them. It's also very common for a Thai to tell someone what he/she thinks that someone wants to hear. Bad news used to get the messenger beheaded in Thailand. I go back to businesses that treat me well. If they don't, I don't.
  20. I remember the statement about Jaguar - one needed to own two, because one of them would always be in the service shop.
  21. We won't all be driving them. There is simply not enough lithium, cobalt and nickel available to meet EV demand. Rio Tinto is one of the world's biggest miners. At a recent Minerals and Metals conference in Australia, the head of Rio's lithium division said lithium mining would need to produce 10 times what is being mined currently, to meet current demand alone. Governments that decree complete replacement of EV's by whatever time frame are indulging in fantasy. We won't be driving EV's that require carrying capacity either. Batteries are heavy, there's no point to a semi-trailer where half the payload is the battery it has to lug around. My apologies if this post derails the topic.
  22. It is more difficult for foreign women to retire here, they need more social interaction than men, and may be ignored by Thais unless they are fluent, or can find a foreigner enclave. My choice was not difficult, low cost of living and a GF 23 years younger than me. In Australia, rentals are through the roof, and most women available are wrinkled whales.
  23. Actually, it's the fossil fuel industry lobbies that are stopping us. Add in Murdoch media. Trump appointed an oil industry executive as Environment Secretary. In Australia, 90% of the advisers in the Prime Minister's Department had links to the fossil fuel industry when the Liberals were in power. It doesn't matter whether you take climate change seriously. If you are less than 60 yo, and live to 80, it will kick you in the butt, like it or not. Either through an actual disaster, such as Maui, or in the hip pocket, via insurance premiums.
  24. I mean the amount of energy required to construct, maintain and harvest such a system will always be more than it is worth in terms of removing carbon dioxide. It's called entropy.
