  1. I read the OP too. In the third post on this thread, I quoted a cost of 3.5 baht/kilometer for a vehicle with a fuel economy of 10 litres/100 km. Perhaps you were too pre-occupied with inserting a put-down to read it. You might do everything in metric, America doesn't. Gasoline prices there are quoted in dollars per Gallon.
  2. I am fully metric, AFAIK it is only Americans who are sticking with out-dated units of measure. Although you guys have the British pound. Do you still have guineas, or is that no longer PC? Gallons/100 m reminds me of a neighbor who bought a Buick Straight Eight back in the 1950's. It ran out of gasoline after two laps of a suburban block. Possibly it is a quirk of nationality, every car in Australia, new or used, has the fuel economy quoted in litres/100 km.
  3. The sense of humor on display has me thinking the OP is creating clickbait for enjoyment. Whatever turns his/her crank. Alcohol is a well-known depressant. Full stop. https://www.addictioncenter.com/alcohol/is-alcohol-a-depressant/ Anti-depressants work; however- Common Side Effects Anxiety. Blurred vision. Constipation. Dizziness. Dry mouth. Fatigue. Feeling numb. Insomnia. Develop an exercise routine instead, build up gradually. Stick to it. Find a sport to enjoy playing. I was on anti-depressants for about 30 years, until I realized changing my mindset was needed to get off them. I have not taken them for about 8 years. If Thailand is unbearable, change. Personally, I prefer Thailand much more than Australia, mainly because it is no longer the Australia I grew up in.
  4. Please explain why the km/litre ratio is better at describing consumption than litres/100 km. You are averaging 8.3 litres/100 km, OK for a large pickup or SUV on diesel. If it was gasoline, 12 - 15 litres/100 km. To me, km/litre is just a different formula for the same attribute.
  5. Which car? Hybrid, ICE, large SUV? Which gasoline? 91, 95, 98 octane rating? Consumption can vary from 4 litres/100 km to 15 litres/100 km. At 10 litres/100 km, and 35 baht/litre, the cost/km is 3.5 baht.
  6. "Take it to the Limit" The Eagles "Country Roads" John Denver I prefer listening to classical music when driving.
  7. There are tours from Ao Nang beach to various islands, some boats carry alcohol and encourage swimming when they drop anchor. The autopsy will shed more light.
  8. Agree 100%. Anything with a card or internet is liable to be hacked, skimmed or scammed. A dedicated passbook with the 800/400K balance untouched during the year cannot be operated by anyone else, except the executor of a will with a lot of documentation. Having the balance untouched also means plain sailing when it is extension time.
  9. People like me are scared of youth because they do dumb things. You want a 20 yo with no life experience running a country? Be careful what you wish for.
  10. We can lay the blame for this type of occurrence at the feet of accountants, who now seem to rule the world. I have seen numerous examples where their cost-cutting has resulted in poor quality or disaster. They don't care, as they are long gone by the time the proverbial hits the fan. I still remember an accountant who saved an electricity distributor $40,000 by changing the catalyst in plastics made for outdoor printed circuit boards, which had a service life of 15 - 20 years. About 12-18 months after the change, it cost the company $32 million in rectifying failures. IMO instead of promoting bean counters, we would be better off shooting some of them.
  11. It doesn't matter what Biden is saying, or the hours he works. Completely irrelevant. he was smart enough to appoint a phalanx of office-bearers who are very qualified to advise him. In contrast, Trump surrounded himself with toadies and sycophants. Anyone differing from him was shown the door. He thought he was the smartest guy in the room, the prosecutors and the courts are demonstrating he's the dumbest president America has ever had. Comparing the two presidencies, Biden has achieved a lot. Trump achieved nothing, except stoking the fires of white supremacists.
  12. I bow to your vastly superior experience.
  13. Loei/Udon Thani is more scenic, but it will probably take longer as there are narrower roads and a fair amount of mountain driving. I'm not sure how Google Maps can say it is the same time of travel. Perhaps it is adjusted for traffic density.
  14. I understand what you mean. I used to know an English guy and his Thai GF in Chiang Mai. Not particularly beautiful; however, she seemed to radiate sensuality like an aura around her.
  15. Actually, if you enjoy suffering, you are a masochist. Unless your post was humor far too subtle for me.
  16. IME beautiful women in Thailand have a tendency to be airheads.
  17. Start preparing for the relationship to end. CYA. Addictions can only be cured by the person themself wanting to quit.
  18. Filipinos are male, the females are filipinas. The use of English is widespread in the Philippines, due to American influence since 1898, and English being made the official language, along with Tagalog. Personally, I've found most Asian nationalities to be friendly.
  19. Thank you. In case it's not clear, the education is mine, she has the emotional intelligence. I marvel at how she can make friends within about two minutes of meeting someone. It would be an egregious double standard for me to judge her past, given mine.
  20. IIRC the Bangkok Bank branch at Pantip Plaza has been closed for quite some time. As more accounts move to online cashless payment, I suppose the need for service staff and a bricks and mortar bank is reduced.
  21. I am not married, once was enough. My GF and I have been together for ten years. Together, everyone seems to assume we are man and wife. We are poles apart in terms of education and emotional intelligence. Somehow, it works.
  22. Challenge declined, even though I am stone cold sober. My verbal skills lag behind the written word. Even more bemusing is the life span of shingles, I understand they have to be replaced every 10 - 15 years. In contrast, there are galvanized roofs in places such as Orroroo that are still going strong after more than 150 years. Canada has been experiencing unprecedented wildfires, and that's one of the colder countries. The laws of thermodynamics at work.
  23. Actually may not be cheaper, definitely lighter and more capable of withstanding strong winds. It depends on whether plain galvanised or zinc-aluminium alloy is is used as the coating, or painted product. Steel roofs also are better in regions prone to bushfires, sparks can burrow into the ceiling space when the roof is overlapping tiles. When I see houses with timber-shingled roofs in a forested area, I am reminded of Einstein's remark about the Universe and human stupidity. https://thepropertytribune.com.au/guides/building/how-much-does-colorbond-roof-sheets-cost-in-2022/ BTW, Dunlop tennis shoes are the favored footwear for any roofer in Australia.
  24. The steel frame I saw was engineered to accept normal plaster panels, with a brick veneer exterior cladding. It would not surprise me to learn Lustron went broke, enamelling is a costly process, particularly with large panels. One thing that could be said for that type of house, the owner never had to worry about termites, borers or mold. Although they could be noisy. In the US and Canada, I am amazed at how many houses have roofs of timber shingles. Tarred, even. A fire waiting to happen, insurers must not sleep well at night.
  25. Your post is describing exactly the feelings I get after half a cup of Kratom infusion.
