  1. Deflection. Have you ever tasted any of the foods I mentioned? Why do you think Australian beef in the string of restaurants you mention is sold at a premium? We don't have Australian restaurants, we adopt cuisine from other countries just like Phuket does. A properly made Australian beef sausage is as good as any Cumberland, boerewors, chorizo, bratwurst or andouille. You've probably only eaten mass-produced stuff, which I agree isdreck.
  2. Yeah, real well..... I assume it was not from Springfield....
  3. If Vegemite is a copy of Marmite, can you explain how it was patented? AFAIK patents are not granted to copies. It's quite rich when a Brit talks about complaining Australians. The term 'Whinging Pom" entered our lexicon just after WWII. Poor food quality in Australia? You have obviously never tasted Gippsland eye fillet steak, King Island cheese, Tasmanian crayfish, barramundi, macadamias, Koo Wee Rup asparagus, the smorgasbord of Shepparton fruit. Carnarvon prawns and bananas. Where do you think the UK imports lamb from? The Chinese and Japanese can't get enough of our clean food. You couldn't even feed yourselves during WWII, even now the bulk of your meat, fruit and vegetables are still imported. Please get out more, you are embarrassing yourself.
  4. You mean people who like warm beer and cold pork pies? Or the consumers of hot dogs and pork ribs? Vegemite is an Australian institution, kids get it the first day they are started on solid food. Our palates are trained for it. I am always amused by non-Australians who try it. They react as if they have been poisoned.
  5. True. That's why I live here comfortably, instead of struggling in Australia. I don't buy much imported food here. Every month, I stock up my freezer with Atlantic salmon, chicken breasts, steak, and pork tenderloin. Fruit, eggs and vegetables come from the day market. I buy almonds and Kelloggs Bran Flakes on Lazada. IMO those complaining about high food prices are not looking hard enough at local alternatives. A failure to adapt. Example: Cheese prices at Big C and Tops are ridiculous. I can buy a 500 gm block of Mainland Tasty cheese in Makro for 270 baht. OTOH, I can also buy a 500 gm block of ARO tasty cheese for 190 baht, and I can't pick any difference in taste.
  6. Certainly people on a salt-restricted diet should avoid it.
  7. You forgot the cost of flour.
  8. The free care is dependent on available resources and eligibility criteria. I was thinking more of the retirement villages, where the proprietors shaft property owners bigtime with maintenance and exit fees.
  9. I can remember a guy I used to work with, who traveled to Libya with two large jars of Vegemite. The Libyan Customs thought it was plastic explosive. They made him eat half a jar to prove it wasn't.
  10. $24.10/hour. The average suburban home is about $800,000, but very dependent on location.
  11. The problem of illegal installation is probably not confined to buses. A lot of heavy haulage trucks and semis also run on CNG.
  12. IIRC Melania hated being in the White House, She stayed away from it as much as she could when Trump was President.
  13. I bring enough Vegemite in to last me until I go back to Australia. Rinse and repeat. Imported cheese ( Mainland ) does not cost much more at Makro than in Australia. If the OP wants to see a really big markup, I suggest aged care in Australia.
  14. It's intelligent to vote for a lying grifting sexual predator and felon, who tried everything to overthrow a legitimately elected government? CAT scan of your skull please, I want to know if it is all bone.
  15. Congratulations, you win the non sequitur award for this week.
  16. Actually, if the casing was made out of tungsten, then gold - plated, it would be difficult to detect without either destroying the watch, or using some very expensive spectroscopic equipment. I understand a few gold shops in Thailand have been stung with fake bullion. Based on current gold prices, the profit on those $100K watches is at least $60 K. The diamonds are so small they are as common as dog droppings.
  17. As @chickenslegs has pointed out, there is a difference between venomous and poisonous. However, you are correct. Poisonous and venomous are used interchangeably with snakes, when poisonous should be reserved for any creature that is dangerous to consume due to the toxins it contains.
  18. Permit me to doubt Trump has had any sex for years. Most pundits seem to think he and Melania have had separate bedrooms for a long time. Haven't you noticed how Trump always seems to be scowling and angry? IME a guy that's getting well laid doesn't look like that.
  19. Here's your slogan to take to a Trump/Vance rally.......
  20. I find Lazada very useful for stuff the local stores don't have, or have never heard of. Never had any problem with suppliers, although if they are not within Thailand I avoid them.
  21. IMO the locals would know which species are edible.
  22. Don't try applying that rule with a taipan or mamba.
  23. Which particular Republican think tank did this pearl of wisdom come from?
  24. Look on the bright side. I am sure there are quite a few posters who could afford to lose some weight. That excludes posters who store their fat in their skulls, of course.
