I do have 15+ employees, but i NEVER paid 8k PER PERSON per month just for tax etc... that is insane!
If you read the op’s post he is asking about minimal costs to operate a business legally. the minimum price to be legal is 8k/month in fees and taxes - in total. Not per person!

You do pay that much for tax on a 50,000 baht salary (must be at least this for foreigner or 40k in some instances to support the work permit) plus social fund for minimum 2 Thais if married or 4 Thais if not and accountants fee on top.
8k is cheap for all the above.
A cheap accountant alone is maybe 1000 to 2000 baht only but don't forget the social fund payment for 2 or 4 Thais and taxes you have to pay on a minimum salary not including the Thai minimum salaries.
Instead of dismissing real life experience go ahead and tell us how much you believe all this to total every month?

The minimum amount you will pay after shopping around a lot and lots of trial and error is approximately..
8k/month for tax, social fund and to pay a very cheap accountant.
Then you will need annual audits about 12k, work permit renewal about 10k
So I would suggest the absolute minimum cost is about 120k/year and more like 150k probably.

Unfortunately in Thailand people are reluctant to intervene with domestic disputes because in the fraction of a second after you intervene you might just get a bullet in your head, a knife in the chest or at minimum attacked by a drunken raging fool with much less to lose than you most likely. If the police do ever arrive you might even get the blame for it.
Its unfortunate, its wrong but that is the way it is in Thailand.

A few years back global terrorism was a real growing problem and to try and control this the US government introduced facta financial reporting from financial institutions. A few years later the Eu followed suit with the CRS common reporting standard.
any countries wanting to be trusted and allowed certain benefits needed to adhere to these new rules.
thailand used to be seen as an easy place to launder money, commit fraud and other crimes and it was a hideout for many criminals and potentially terrorists.
incidentaly by adhering to the new strict financial reporting meant that everyone must be accountable financially and therefore a side benefit is crack downs on tax evasion which means more money going into all government coffers.
the rise of trump, hard right movements and nationalistic dictators around the globe is partly a response to terrorism taking advantage of globalisation and free movement.
consequently in this respect the government is no different in Thailand cleaning up the place from crooks and terrorism.
China is also seizing any opportunity to colonise by means of financial loans / debt.
all this means stricter controls at borders and financial institutions and a few steps backwards from globalisation.
the tide will turn again one day but things will never be the same as before

If you complain to the police maybe they will fine you for allowing a tourist to operate your bike without insurance to ride it.. and potentially with no helmet..

To the OP, don't shoot the messengers you are receiving 'on the ground' information and no people are not exaggerating about deportations.
Things have changed since 2014 and rules have gradually become more strict. Everywhere you go and ask for something these days you get told 'No cannot'.
Just a few years ago it was ' Yes Can Do' no problem.
Times have changed and that includes living in Thailand long term on tourist visas. Its a no go if you ask me. Tourist visas are for genuine tourists - the IO's have lost trust and the rules are strictly enforced in Thailand now.
Don't shoot the messengers.

3 hours ago, tifino said:so... how can they then send it back, to a wallet that does not exist?
Exactly - you have identified the problem. To cash out the 'coupon' it needs to be sent back to the Lazada wallet and the wallet can only be registered by a Thai citizen regardless who the account belongs to. New anti money laundering rules apparently.
However I have since received a follow up email this afternoon asking me to send in all my documents so I assume they are trying to help with a work around now. Its a long winded process though.
Just be aware if anyone does not have a Thai family member who can sign up for the wallet you may be limited or restricted with refunds when dealing with Lazada and expect to have to jump through hoops to get your money back.

Just now, CharlieH said:Never had any issue getting refund back to c/c, very prompt, no hassle.
Maybe because I paid cash on delivery there was no option to get refund other than digital wallet.
Ok thats a good tip to try to pay with debit card if I decide to use them again, thanks.

Just tell them to send the money to your bank account?

I just wanted to mention this about using Lazada to buy goods.
I recently purchased something costing around 800baht and it was nothing as advertised and completely useless and so i returned it to the seller. The seller then sent a refund via Lazada Wallet. However the coupon will expire in 1 year if I dont use it and when I chat to Lazada customer support they said I need to be a Thai citizen to activate the wallet and be able to transfer funds from the wallet.
So in reality because I wasn't born in Thailand I am allowed to register a Lazada account and pay money for things but I am not allowed to get the refund for anything if I decide to send it back and that money will remain in Lazada's wallet since I am not allowed to register for the Wallet part of the website. I don't even want a digital wallet I simply would like the refund sending back in cash or to my bank.
The customer support said it is because bank of Thailand have changed some rules for anti money laundering and so Lazada cannot allow anyone to register to the wallet unless you are a Thai citizen. (I noticed the sign up process requests Thai ID card number).
So I've just lost my cash unless I use it to buy something else - I might be able to register with my wifes name although its the principal that this is a very poor state of affairs isn't it?
Just wanted to make people aware shopping via Lazada if you are not a Thai citizen, you have fewer rights to get your money back when shopping on their website.
Rant over ????

Buy a 5 year Elite Visa or consider marriage and then a marriage visa. Elite Visa would probably be much cheaper in the long run.
Thailand have raised the bar with regards to back to back tourist visas recently I wouldn't want to chance tourist visas for long stay,

The problem is that western countries have exported jobs and borrowed money. The west is in a slump. I was in Malaysia recently. They (effectively) devalued as western currency real value dropped. Things are really cheap over there.
I don't know why the Thais choose to maintain the value of their currency, rather than devalue as the west goes down. I can guess. But I don't really know. I don't even know who writes competently on the subject.
Citation needed.
It’s real, ..there are more similar stories on google. ????????

Of course not, must be in partnership with a Thai, 49/50% ratio.
Thailand protects the country from foreign dilution, whereas in Europe they don't. If you don't like Thais buying up properties and companies for 100% ownership, then better to get the law changed as they have done in Switzerland (the smart people).
In London what they do is bump prices so only the rich underworld money can buy up the assets then years down the road confiscate it back as illegal gains????????????????
is this not smart too?

Thanks @rasg and everyone else who replied. This is all new to me so this is very useful information, I appreciated it thank you.
Ok we are going to go for it then and book a second trip since my family in the UK invited us back for Christmas and New Year.
Does that mean we have to leave the UK before the Visa expires or is that date on the visa just to show she must enter before the visa expires?
I remember when we entered the first time the immigration official was friendly but stern when asking quick fire questions about what I do for a living etc.
if I get asked those same questions again I guess I would need to explain I just closed my company in Thailand and I have a UK company also and that we have been invited back for Christmas and new Year. I guess that might trigger further questioning?
I wouldn't want to have to sit and be questioning is a back room for an hour. Ah well we have nothing to hide only our story is maybe not straight forward.

Shouldn't the government be questioned about this?

so these promotions only work for the first year of a new registered number?
If you want to keep the same number more than one year you have to pay the usual prices.

There is nothing more frustrating when an OP asks for advice, gets good feedback and follow up questions and then does not post a follow up. Come on OP @NightSky
Thanks for all the replies.
I've just realized now that I have my wife's passport available to see, indeed I see that the Visa is a 'Multi C Visit Visa' valid until February 2020.
So I guess its a multi entry visa then, although it does have an entry stamp on the Visa issued at the UK airport already.
We spent about 30 days in the UK previously which was longer than the 3 weeks I mentioned on the application. The extra week was due to the British Airways strikes and that we decided to stay on an extra week. However we didnt mention anything on the application about going twice and staying longer.
I am here to reply and grateful for all replies thank you to all who has replied. Regarding possible inconsistency in my post I was careful to write 'before considering the possibility of starting a new job or business in Thailand', that's if we need to although we are planning to apply for a spouse Visa. If the visa is declined of course we would then need to remain in Thailand and find something to do. Its just keeping our options open due to uncertainties.
So, the existing Visa is still valid until end of February 2020 although because we didn't mention going twice on the visa application I assume that wouldn't look too good when we go through immigration or when we apply for a visa in future?
Also then does it mean my wife can go back as long as she leaves before the expiry date on the Visa?

As you mentioned in another separate post, If you’re thinking about applying for PR after several years paying taxes with your own business I read on here that the business would need to hire and pay salary to real Thai employees (not just on paper) as the business would be scrutinised for legitimacy during the application process.
In this case add the minimum wage for 2 or 4 Thai employees to the monthly costs.
